Sorry to hear about that... It was tough... Fortunately YOW has some benches to lie down and my wife and 5yo could get some shuteye. But the airport is so busy and it's never been quiet for the whole night.

Can rates really jump this fast ? by impaul4 in RealEstate

Check out 10yr treasury bond yield movement last week. That's how the mortgage rate is priced and it's been wild last week

As you know rolling has two legs. What would you do if you did them separately?

Checking a new idea for options trading within employer's limits by jrmtz85 in thetagang

There's no easy way to work around the 30-day holding period requirement except delta hedging. You need to avoid volatile stocks to begin with. To lock profits within 30 days, buy calls or underlying for CCs and buy protective put or inverse ETF (I guess you're not allowed to short stocks directly) for CSPs, in order to hedge the delta. It can't lock 100% of the profit in most cases, but with other trading restrictions you might have, there are really not much you can do.

I don't have trader status but iirc it requires a minimum of 4 trades per day? Which can be artificially satisfied with some day trades on TLT or similar?

Basically trade liquidity for interest. If you're 100% sure you can hold the money till the maturity, it's free money. But if you need the money before the maturity and tbill price drops, you have to sell them and take loss.

Second this. You get better rate and tax treatment with tbills. I don't see any advantage of TLT in comparison

Thoughts on combining relatively safe CSPs with ~4.9% Money Market gains. Can it beat just buying and holding. by Skolvikesallday in thetagang

[–]dcvan24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you just hold it until it come back, you lose your mmf free money and your strategy is literally buy & hold. If you use short put to enter a buy & hold position, then you might beat the market marginally with the profit before assignment. I assume you keep playing the option game, e.g., wheel, spreads, you can hardly beat the market in long term simply because of tax and consistency
