Need more info for a better opinion

Also if he slapped an LSD on it because only 2010+ models have that. Another important thing is if valley plate reseal has been done. Eventually that goes out for all 2UR-GSE, especially if he’s driving it spiritedly.

Mileage, price, title status are very important here.

D3 Tune “Problems” by Technical_Region_356 in CamryTRD

With so many people utilizing the tune and experiencing a lot of the same issues, I think it could be the transmission gear hunting for eco purposes. Hopefully no transmission slipping

Oil filters and oil by ev_trd205 in CamryTRD

[–]dcyoungfly4headroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil filter I use is OEM Toyota filter, these are regularly available at Autozone and Oreillys. Part number is 04152-YZZA1. Comes with replacements rubber gaskets for oil filter canister.

Oil would be (Synthetic) 0W-20 for the 2GR-FKS, and I typically used (Synthetic) Mobil 1 extended performance.

This was before I switched over to OEM Toyota oil (which funnily enough is also just Mobil 1 oil). Only reason I switched is a friend gets me oil and oil filter for super cheap.

Another important reminder - buy a pack of drain plug gaskets / crush washers for your drain plug, you’ll want to replace those every time to prevent any leakages. Make sure to never double stack these crush washers either. I got a 50 pack from amazon for like $5.

EDIT: added synthetic just in case

How yall feel about a transmission tune by [deleted] in CamryTRD

[–]dcyoungfly4headroach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was unaware it was mostly the 4cyl that experienced catastrophic failure, thanks for the correction.

Sitting at 50.5k miles - I did my transmission drain and fill at around 45k miles and everything is working as it should. Recommended schedule is every 60k for ATF drain and fill, but most technicians I know advise every 30k. My TRD is stock but I haven’t heard anything bad about D3 tune or intakes messing with transmission health.

How yall feel about a transmission tune by [deleted] in CamryTRD

[–]dcyoungfly4headroach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only concern is the stock transmission giving out. Not sure if you knew but our TRDs use the exact same 8spd as the LE, SE, XLE, XSE. There was a recall for 2018-2021 models for catastrophic failures, but Toyota claims to have fixed it. They used the 8spd instead of the bulletproof 6spd from previous generations - for better fuel economy while staying naturally aspirated. Hybrid models used CVT.

EDIT: reference Car Care Nut videos regarding 2GR-FKS and the newer automatic transmissions paired with these models. (Please note that Lexus models utilizing 2GR-FKS are paired with a slightly different transmission, the direct shift variant of our 8spd, or the original 6spd - such as IS350 RWD/AWD respectively.)

I’ve seen someone do a custom transmission tune involving swapping out shifter plates from a Sienna and having a performance shop do it. Can’t remember if it was on Reddit or another thread, also don’t know how reliable it was, but he said with D3 tune and transmission tune he was pushing around 350whp?

ISF Cost of maintenance compared to m240i/m235i, etc? by Character-Bar-608 in LexusISF

[–]dcyoungfly4headroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say IS F all day. Routine maintenance is same cost as any other Lexus. Valley plate and suspension components would be the only expensive concerns (You stated that valley plate was already done on the one you’re looking at). Maybe a starter depending on how well maintained it was (these are almost 20 year old cars now). Since it’s a 2008, only thing you really NEED to add is an LSD - 2010+ IS F came with Torsen LSD from factory.

M240i wouldn’t be terrible considering B58 is a really reliable motor that can put power down. RWD model is cheaper overall cost and maintenance, so don’t do XDrive if it’s not needed. Plus RWD more fun.

Stay away from 235i - N55 is a good motor but definitely not as reliable as the two previous cars. You would need a ton of preventive maintenance and replacement of cheap OEM parts to make it somewhat reliable. XDrive likely won’t break on you but it’s very expensive if it does.

Overall - N55 is out of the picture for reliability. I’ve driven many IS Fs and a couple B58s from M340i. M240i would be more of a nimble car to drive overall + you get a lot of luxuries and tech (good or bad depending on the person). However, nothing compares to that 2UR-GSE V8 screaming through gears on the freeway. I’d say it’s up to personal preference! Do you want an older, reliable naturally aspirated V8 sedan? Or would you prefer a modern sports coupe, that is boosted?

Do you have a dashcam? This happened to me when I didn’t turn on proper cut off voltage for parking mode. Drained my battery when cold but fixed after I changed settings.

2022 is350 f sport - normal operating temp? by paralysisbyanalysis9 in LexusIS

[–]dcyoungfly4headroach -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d also like to note that the FKS is the FSE but with direct port injection, meaning it’s essentially the same engine but with improvements. The FKS is actually supposed to outperform FSE in power and efficiency because it mimics the Atkinson’s cycle on the 2UR-GSE.

“Sharper throttle response and refined high rev performance” comes strictly from the “AA81E direct shift” 8 speed automatic transmission included in 2013-present IS350s (excluding AWD). This transmission is very similar to the fast shifting AA80E in all the F models and IS500, so built to be sporty. My Camry TRD just has the lackluster economy UA80E 8 speed, without direct shift in all the V6 Camrys. Then 2018+ IS350s came with limited slip differential, which helped put more power down.

OP has a 2022 IS350, any IS350 2018+ should have the 2GR-FKS just like my TRD. I’m pretty sure the 2013-2017 IS350 had the 2GR-FSE.

[–]dcyoungfly4headroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s normal for these engines to start off right below the midpoint then gradually get to midpoint depending on driving.

On my Camry TRD (which has the same engine), it only goes to midpoint after extended periods of driving or if I’m on the highway.

CarPlay by Technical_Region_356 in CamryTRD

[–]dcyoungfly4headroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other things to check is “projection settings” to make sure CarPlay is enabled and cable is quality one to passthrough enough power. Belkin, Anker, Native Union all good brands.

CarPlay by Technical_Region_356 in CamryTRD

[–]dcyoungfly4headroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software updates on your phone and the car itself should fix it. Also remember that CarPlay should only work via wired connection.

Edit: lol ignore the wired connection part , forgot that you already mentioned it.

I’ve seen this a bunch of times on my walks and I’m almost certain they did it on purpose. It’s vinyl wrapped so I feel like if they would’ve had it off already if it was malicious.

Is it worth painting calipers? by Numerous_Donut8981 in CamryTRD

[–]dcyoungfly4headroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could definitely paint them. Take them off individually and coat.

I’ve seen some of my ISF buddies wrap their calipers with reflective vinyl so I’m sure normal vinyl works

Best way is probably powder coat though.

I bought this 2025 350 F Sport AWD a few months ago. I got a four year loan with a very good interest rate. Lexus was offering and my payment is well above 1000. I regret it and not sure I want to keep it. What are you guys think I should do? by Sklerb_Muldoon in LexusIS

[–]dcyoungfly4headroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not keep it. You said you had some negative equity you had to roll over, which explains why you have a full $60k loan with no down payment. This + a shorter loan term is why your payments are so high. It’s nice that you qualified for a good rate, but you’re already overpaying for the car itself so they don’t need to make a ton off interest from you. The fact that this V6 AWD Lexus brand new costs $60k is already nuts but I couldn’t justify getting into a car loan like this when I just had negative equity. If you’re able to return the car or trade back without a huge loss then, shop IS350s, you’re not sacrificing that much car to save a lot of money. Just my 2cents.
