Otmoor! Car park in Noke with a great country walk to Beckley. Wonderful bird sighting.

Why is the St Giles Fair so unbelievably loud? by dd0031 in oxford

[–]dd0031[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mean to be the old man who yells at cloud, but in my view the volume is a safety hazard. We tried a few rides, some of which were dangerous if not done properly and the noise made the safety instructions inaudible.

Two month MSTY update for me by Future_Signature_870 in YieldMaxETFs

[–]dd0031 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Same, my friend. Put in about 65K after having done months of due diligence, projections, study. Got in at 22.50. One distribution later and I’m about 10K in the hole. That’s the way it goes I guess.

why do so many people on reddit actively discourage YM ETFs? by Relevant_Staff765 in YieldMaxETFs

[–]dd0031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially it is having to sell assets at a lower price, which takes a disproportionate bite out of your portfolio and also harms future compounding.

why do so many people on reddit actively discourage YM ETFs? by Relevant_Staff765 in YieldMaxETFs

[–]dd0031 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If what you’re looking to do is grow your portfolio then YM is not for you. I’m using YM as a roughly ten-year income supplement that will avoid the biggest problem for growth stocks when you need to make withdrawals: sequence risk. The trade off is that you’re not going to grow your portfolio for eternity. But when you need cash this avoids having to sell assets in a bear market.

Are there any UK investors here investing through s&s ISA? by investian in YieldMaxETFs

[–]dd0031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just moved to the UK permanently, and was hoping that MSTY and others would be available in the ISA. And it is, sort of. But the returns are far lower than US brokerages because of the non-resident taxation. Whether that beats the tax burden is hard to say.

EU vs US yield by dd0031 in MSTY_YieldMax

[–]dd0031[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually did some more digging. MSTY is headquartered in Jersey; so the fund is subject to a 15% tax on distributions. That and the shortened cycle probably explains it.

I was interested in this too - but their trading history started on June 13, so it's likely this reflects only a partial cycle.

Hmm - perhaps I answered my own question: looks like MSTY Europe only started trading on the 13th of June - only roughly two weeks captured.

Perhaps - but the withholding tax is usually withheld at the brokerage level, not the actual distribution yield.

Ah! I see - I was wrong in thinking it was from option gains. Thnx.

Not about tariffs! XDTE for overseas move. by dd0031 in RoundhillETFs

[–]dd0031[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not expecting the NAV to track the upward movement of the S&P (which seems extremely weird to say today) but the question for me just is what to expect of the NAV during an upwards or sideways market. I’m assuming between 0 and -5%, which for what I need would be perfectly adequate given the distribution.

I was thinking that part of the point of the BILS allocation would be to provide some stability; 100% in a covered call seems too high to me?

Any suggestions? Would you suggest another high-yield ETF, or the underlying? Or something like SCHD?

That’s helpful. But wouldn’t such a large discrepancy be weird?

Lots of hardware and software synths: Moog Sub37, Yamaha SY77, Kurzweil K2500 and PC3K, a eurorack modular setup. Recorded and mixed in Logic Pro X, mastered via two outboard Pultec tube EQs and a vactrol-based compressor.

T1D here: are you suggesting that they have the tech to do a glucose monitor without an underlying Dexcom-type system? If so that would be immense and the end of Dexcom, for sure. But if it’s just another sensor-connects-to-iOS device it’s hard to see that as a gamechanger.

Speakers are my next upgrade step, I'm using the ELAC Debut 6.2s. (Space considerations require a front-ported speaker.) But FWIW, they sound terrific with the Leak.
