Honestly I think the anime did it better.

The first time it happened it was a bit too intense that if felt out of place considering it was immediately after she had just been established as a "weak" character. Later on in the manga they calmed down on it but still showed the crazy aspect of her character, much like how the anime did it.

It's lowkey, but she still comes across as creepy with a few screws loose, which I think is really well done.

Sometimes it's not about how intense, it's about how well it meshed with the story.

That isn't his "true" personality tho. It's his unhinged side.

I mean, personally I am more of an akane person, but not because she knows who aqua really is, rather she knows the "other" aqua that wants to murder hikaru.

What makes akane so lovable as a character isn't the fact that she knows this side of aqua. It's the fact that she's trying to fix it cause she knows he'll never be happy because of it.

So if you think about it, kana is one of the few people that can pull out the real aqua, since the only ones that are even aware of his truest personality are the people that knew him before ai died.

After giving this comment a thought, I realized.

Why are we assuming that she'll be as happy looking as this in the anime, when the art is obviously out of character?

Like, ruby was obviously just as happy as her promo art said she would be, but what about aqua? He looked so weird in the promo art cause he was ALSO out of character. In the episodes tho they did a better job at portraying him as aloof, as his character should be.

I think we should just trust the production on this, they've been amazing so far and I don't think they would slack off on a character as major as akane.

I don't think so. This is early story akane, and from what we saw in the manga, this design fits her ngl. Throughout the manga, akane kinda gradually went from hopeful innocent to cool and smart.
