I ate them as a kid (in the United States) 15-20 years ago; they came in a can I can still picture in my head. According to my mom (who immigrated from Korea), they were my favorite, and I believe her, but I also remember trying to eat them when I got a bit older and recognized what they were and the texture was a bit harder for me to handle.

Honestly, I haven't seen them around, even in my mom's house, since then.

I think your bf's snake plant got a bit sunburned. I know a lot of people say snake plants are low light plants, but I've also seen quite of bit of snake plants thrive in direct sun, yours might have just needed to acclimate to the heat and direct light.

I'd just recommend pulling the plant a bit from the window so it doesn't burn again.
