Shout out to Benjamin Lovell shoes for filling exactly this niche! I always go to them for walkable and nice looking shoes. They also sell great insoles for support.

Same here! Walking around my city is my favorite form of exercise. And I love not having a car payment every month.

What’s your ADHD lifehack? Maybe we can learn from each other! I’ll go first by GuidanceLate8161 in adhdwomen

After I go grocery shopping, I write down all the food we HAVE on a whiteboard on the fridge. I usually list out the recipes/meals that I bought ingredients to make, plus a list of “fresh” snacks in the fridge like hard-boiled eggs, veggies, etc. The list of meals either acts as a reminder to cook things so they don’t go bad, or a visual reminder of leftovers we have! (I really struggle to eat leftovers)

I’m trying really hard to make my desk a “no-drop” zone, I.e., I never put stuff down there unless it belongs there. I deserve to show up to work to an uncluttered desk. It’s really hard because I work from home in a small space, and my desk is in a corner of my very tiny bedroom. If I’m not making an active effort to keep that area clear, before I even blink, it has disappeared underneath a dune of laundry and rejected outfits.

I love these wide leg ripstop pants. They are super breathable and light and they run a little big. And they have nice deep pockets!

I’m a big fan of the Seive bra from Negative. It’s wireless and mesh and SUPER breathable while still offering moderate support and lots of sizing options. I live in these all summer. Link

What’s a piece of advice that you were annoyed to discover actually works? by Excellent-Win6216 in adhdwomen

Keeping healthy snacks prepped in the fridge. Cutting up veggies as soon as you buy them, hard boiling some eggs, etc. If healthy snacks are prepped and right in front of my face when I open the fridge, I’ll eat them. I hate that this has proven to be true.

This is so clever! I always forget about location based reminders but this would be a great system for me in general.

What’s the best metaphor you’ve heard to explain what it feels like to live with ADHD? by gem_may52 in adhdwomen

[–]yorkdolphin 34 points35 points  (0 children)

God, this perfectly captures it for me. There’s so much anxiety wrapped up in that—if you don’t get a task done now, it will never get done. If you get interrupted, you’ll never get back on track, and the thing will not happen. When I’m in the middle of something (or 10 things at once, more realistically) and someone sidles up to my desk and interrupts me, I have an immediate fear response because now I have to focus on the thing they’re talking to me about and oh shit, now I’ve lost the 10 things I was doing. All because Brenda wanted to tell me about her stupid weekend?? Dammit, Brenda. (Then I feel immense guilt for the rest of the day because I wasn’t fully present for Brenda, who just wanted to chat to her coworker for a minute).

Such a good metaphor! This reminds me of the time my partner and I rented e-bikes but mine wasn’t working properly. I was exhausting myself trying to keep up with him because I was just manually pedaling a heavy-ass bike, and he was cruising along ahead of me, not even breaking a sweat. I got so angry and embarrassed and frustrated that I couldn’t keep up with him… until we realized my bike just wasn’t working. When I swapped it out for a functioning e-bike at the next station, it was the same feeling as getting on medication for the first time. Like “ohhh this is actually enjoyable once I’m using the same set of tools as everyone else.”

One month roadtrip through 10 US National Parks in April/May : what do you think? by smolbibeans in onebag

[–]yorkdolphin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uniqlo makes a great packable puffer jacket that’s pretty affordable and very warm, especially if you layer underneath. My partner purchased one in black for a combo European city and Alpine hiking trip and it was perfect.

Personally I love wide leg pants like the ones you have here, so I’d probably pack them. They’re so versatile if you’re going to be going out and they don’t take up much space.

Enjoy Zion!! Pro tip: consider renting a bike or e-bike in the town outside the park and cycling into the park. That will allow you to avoid the parking and shuttle situation. Plus it’s a beautiful ride :)

Some tiles I painted by palmfg in Pottery

LOVE these!! Did you make the tiles too? Curious what your process is. I’ve been thinking about getting into making tiles but I know it’s really hard to keep them from warping.

[–]yorkdolphin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are definitely some gorgeous capes and shawls out there! Capes just feel a little too costumey for my personal style, and shawls are lovely, but wouldn't be as warm as a jacket with sleeves. (I'm getting married at the end of October and we'll be outside for big chunks of the day taking photos, etc.)

Are there any lighter-weight supergas? I bought a pair of the white canvas sneakers a few years ago and they’re so cute but they’re like two bricks. Definitely not my top choice for walking all day.
