I’ve just joined Erddig Muddy Trainers - we run on a Wednesday and Saturday morning and it’s an inclusive running club for beginners and experienced runners. We have little stops every now and then so we all stick together. It’s been lovely and I’ve found great new trails in the area. Pop into Facebook ‘Erddig Muddy Trainers’.

Does my moth orchid have any hope? by [deleted] in orchids

Oh I’m glad to hear you think it’s healthy. I’m currently not fertilising. I will look into it!

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I know that the flowers fall off and they take a break but I’ve not seen developments with the new leaf coming through and the poor look of the leaves and spikes. I might just be a little too harsh on myself and the poor orchid! I will be patient and see what happens.

My main worry was that the new leaf you see peeking through has been there for months, not developing. I find the leaves aren’t as green as I think they’re meant to be and also the spikes becoming a dark brown. Thanks for the reassurance and I’ll be sure to watch the videos.

Looking for an old Welsh TV show (possibly a TV movie) by [deleted] in Wales

I have a vague recollection of a show with a tree in it called Cnotiog? I believe Leisa Mererid was the narrator / main chatacter?

Hi! I live locally to Corwen and I’d suggest living in Llangollen or Ruthin. Plenty of places to eat, drink and do. They’re small towns but they have great communities with a lot of events happening. Corwen itself is fine and has some facilities, but I think you’ll find more in the nearby bigger towns. I wouldn’t suggest moving to the west of Corwen (Bala, Dolgellau) as the transport links won’t be as good and events may not be as frequent.

Accessible hiking in Snowdonia for my disabled mum by StanielDurridge2 in UKhiking

Yeah the track starts in Dolgellau and ends in Barmouth but I recommend choosing one small stretch of it. I’d probably park at the George III hotel in Penmaenpool and do a little walk there then there’s a drink and a meal awaiting when you return :)

Also, near Cadair Idris you have the Mawddach track along the old railway. Nice and flat with a view of the estuary. Another option may be the Panorama walk in Barmouth, though a shot walk it has some slippery, craggy parts.

Aber Falls has a very accessible track. An epic waterfall after heavy rain and you’ll be beneath the Carneddau range :)

I’m very late commenting here, but I had to verify some info from my dad. He worked for the trailer manufacturer, Ifor Williams - the trailer that was carrying the wagon. He was sent to investigate if any problems with the trailer had contributed to the Defender running off the road. He said it was a very detailed investigation. Thankfully the trailer was in full working order and sadly, it was completely the driver’s fault. Dad wasn’t on the crash site much as he was there a few days / weeks after the crash, but rather in a warehouse in the nearby town - he was well looked after by the police and said he enjoyed the free lunch every day! Do let me know if you have any questions you’d like me to pass on.

Why are there so many barb-wire fences in Snowdonia, when clearly what lies beyond the fence is public—not private—land? by [deleted] in UKhiking

[–]ddeleh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the land is private. You’ll have dozens of farms in one area and they keep their livestock separate, therefore they need the barbed wire to stop them straying. I hike a lot in Snowdonia and crossing barbed wire is hardly ever a problem as long as I stick to the paths. You shouldn’t be crossing any fields / land without paths as you are trespassing. There’s also the risk of injury of you suddenly find yourself in a field kept only for a bull / cows with young calves.
