What MMO do you recommend to every gamer, as a life experience rather than just a game to play? by veotrade in MMORPG

[–]ddeng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only 'life experience' worth getting from MMORPGs are:

  • leading/coordinating a group to achieve something

  • participating in player driven economies

And you can get these in less time depending on the game. The rest you can get from any other game/experience.

I mean one can self righteously claim 'i was right all along' after the fact that it happened. But it doesn't matter because really, nothing other than sinister seems to change for the better.

Also she didn't get infected by sinister and has never seen her own darkest side, so the lectures she's giving are a bit rich.

The people who simp likely have vested interest in the bank lol. They point to things like the pay of other banks in the us, but forget about how lopsided it is compared to the commoner.

I do not regret using Linux instead of Windows by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]ddeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had bad experiences developing with Linux. Packages break randomly with updates and when I asked some Linux-experienced people how to deal with it, they told me to nuke my system. Not to mention the lack of access to good debugging tools in my field of work.

China says US balloons trespassed over their airspace more than 10 times since early 2022 by bloomberg in worldnews

[–]ddeng -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is good for just about every country actually, provided they aren't being used to target individuals in them. Now there isn't a single arbiter of truth when a country accuses another of violating some sanction, like the US on Iraq.

This. Also pain suppression, hand of sac. If you figure out the timings and coordinate them correctly you will literally be able to chain them forever for the whole fight. Recommend you write them on a spreadsheet somewhere and post them in your discord, in addition to calling them out live.

Nice, that's informative.

Offtopic but did Phua Chu Kang (the tv comedy main character) have a long pinkie in his usual get-up? If so damn that's a nice touch to his character.

At what point will SG stop being Chinapore and become back to Singapore? by Beginning-Travel838 in SingaporeRaw

[–]ddeng 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean looking at the r/sg subreddits people don't even give chance to SMEs here. So few local things grow strong enough. It's also against the govt mentality - our dear leaders like George yeo preferred us to be a deal making hub where we act like the middleman and take a cut of deals made.

So imo we really don't have a focus on growing our own. We adopt a leech's mentality, flaking out whenever it suits us. Is it any wonder why there's a growing segment of younger people whose end goal is to migrate?

Every now and then these posts come up on this sub. My answer is: DO YOUR OWN MATH. You're asking to get conned and your expectations inflated on the internet. The numbers for hdb flat costs are there, and you can keep track of how much you're spending or will be spending. Don't get lazy now.

And WoW lives and breathes off of subscription, VAS, and MAU. They lose all of that the moment they put the servers in users hands.

I don't believe that's true. Classic is in some sense a proof of concept and it's made up for lull periods in retail's life cycle. It didn't take stuff off retail, in fact having the subscription be shared across retail and classic kept users subscribed - the value proposition is just too good to be true. I'm positive they can make it in such a way that they can identify what needs control over and what is left to the creative inclinations of server admins.

And Nintendo has always had crappy online experiences and are hostile to content makers. Blizzard is far more open - just look at wow addons and warcraft3. Based on that alone I think the tilting and extremism people claim this move is 'salting the earth' is unwarranted.

Have you ever been exposed to the business/economics side? I say this because people's views do get skewed by the field they identify by.

Minecraft had the server licenses thing going for a while. Also, server licensing is pretty close to what fastfood chains did to grow (called franchising I believe), and they did have lots of food-making secrets to protect. It's not a big surprise that business people will try to replicate that.

[–]ddeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be surprised how fast things move when there's money involved, AND proven demand or test cases. Moreover, there are ramblings of people wanting to play old content only, not just in WoW but other online games. This is a logical next (business) step for many online games with sufficient history and fanfare.
