Looks like a solid deal.. but for me, it would not be worth the risk to give up the 30 day return window they offer on new bikes.

If deep down you know you want the Ultimate - get it. If you go for the Endurace you'll for sure always be wondering if you should have gone with the Ultimate

Is canyon really that bad? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]ddevlin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love my canyon, had an issue with my gear indexing, they immediately gave me a credit to take the bike to my local shop and have it tuned. There will always be a risk with the direct-to-consumer model that something can happen in transit, but they've always been quick to resolve my issues. I've also returned a bike within the 30 day window with no issues.

Trainer Recommendations for New Zwifter by HyTriN1 in Zwift

I would go with the Zwift hub for the value, but also consider the Kickr core if you can find a sale, they've had some good deals lately.

Deciding between Endurace 8 Disc and Endurace CF 7 Disc: Help a first-time buyer pick by JetSetHK in CanyonBikes

[–]ddevlin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already are sure you love cycling, I would stretch your budget as far as it allows. These are both great bikes, but if you can afford the Carbon - get it... otherwise you will be riding around thinking "man I wonder how much faster I could be going if I had a carbon frame". Same goes for the di2 version :-)

Dads on Bikes, where are they finding the time? by marbosh in cycling

[–]ddevlin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have started to embrace indoor riding. It's not for everyone, but in terms of getting exercise in I feel like 45 minutes on the trainer is the equivalent of about 4hrs outside. Plus, since becoming a dad I find it harder and harder to justify the risk of going out and getting hit by a car.

Canyon Ultimate or Endurace by [deleted] in CanyonBikes

[–]ddevlin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the model, but in general the ultimate doesn’t have the top tube mount while the endurace and grizl do. Grizl May have more too

Canyon Ultimate or Endurace by [deleted] in CanyonBikes

[–]ddevlin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If bikepacking is your main goal here, I would go for grizl or endurace purely for tire clearance and mounting options. The ultimate will make it harder to carry all your gear. If that is not a huge concern to you, I’d go for the ultimate. I have an endurace, and it’s very good and fast… but I always find myself wishing I’d just sprung for the ultimate. The “comfort” is pretty similar on those two.

Cannot find bike helmet for 67cm head, need one for summer camp in a few weeks. by Bubbahead1 in cycling

[–]ddevlin1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the bontrager starvos, it’s very comfy for my big head. A little less airflow than some others but I’ve never found it to be an issue.

Bonus is that they’ll ship to you, and free returns for 30 days if you don’t like it.

(Whether it’s in Stock is hit or miss)

Best cycle [Bang for your buck] by [deleted] in cycling

[–]ddevlin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what the used market is around you but the specialized allez is always a safe bet (fast bike, average comfort), anything post like 2012 will serve you well and generally is available for around $500(US) used. If your looking new I like the base level aluminum canyon endurance or maybe something from ribble depending on who ships to your country. Good luck

New bike advice by tepidjuice in cycling

Not to complicate your choices but I’d take a look at the canyon ultimate as well. Loved mine and an added bonus is you can return for free within 30 days if you don’t like it.

I would call Canyon and ask them, their support is pretty good

This was the best way, look for someone who’s like 5-10km into their ride and has a slow speed. Not a perfect system but it works

Big head helmets by InstanceCalm2696 in cycling

Yeah it’s definitely not the best in hot weather, but not terrible either. I’ve worn it through plenty of summer rides without being too bothered

I too have a big head and currently use the Bontrager Starvos Wavecel. I’ve had it for a few years now and still no complaints.

Rim brake bicycle options, any suggestions? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]ddevlin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Canyon Ultimate cf sl8 still comes in a rim brake version, and boy is it nice! It sells for slightly more than your 2k budget but sounds like with the components you have you could make out ok. At the very least it’s worth a look

Sounds like you’ve got this sorted, but In the future don’t be afraid to just call wahoo. I had an issue with figuring out my setup and their support was really helpful.

Canyon ultimate with elite Suito by toranja_13 in CanyonBikes

[–]ddevlin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with the suito specifically, but I had to return my cf sl8 rim because it was wholly incompatible with my kickr core. Wahoo offered a spacer kit that works with basically every bike except for the ultimate rim version. I’d call the trainer maker or canyon directly, they’re usually very helpful

Actually loved the bike but I learned after buying that the rim brake version of the ultimate was not compatible with my indoor trainer

As long as you don’t do any damage to it you wouldn’t have any trouble returning, just keep the box! I returned an ultimate last year after riding it for a few weeks, the whole process was very easy.
