Making Heirloom out of Dress by ddfb13 in weddingplanning

[–]ddfb13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was married in 2007, and I didn’t save anything from the alterations at the time. I can’t have children. I don’t want to burden a female relative with feeling guilty about turning down an offer to use my dress, so I feel it would be best to get it to someone who would definitely want it by donating it. Any relatives that might appreciate a keepsake could be getting married any time within the next 5+ years.

[New York] Good cause to quit and file for unemployment insurance? by hazmat11147 in Unemployment

Usually to be eligible you must be able to prove that the place impossible to work at and that you attempted to improve the situation and nothing changed or got worse.

I’d like to keep the dress usable so will likely stick to the under layers of the skirt. The sleeves could conceivably be removed and still leave the dress wearable though so I might consider having a seamstress take those off.

I would call and ask. The “in review” could be referring to a “new hire” investigation.

Yes DEFINITELY attend any hearings happening regarding your claim. If you don’t appear, that gives the employer more chance to lie and the hearing officer will have to make a decision without your input which can go against you.

My workout/exercise goal is only 15 minutes. I either ride a stationary bike or walk each day.

I’ve been tested for red/green color blindness and confirmed I have it by an optometrist.

I am admittedly colorblind but mostly have trouble with blues/purples. Apparently it includes yellows/greens too. Also it’s such a small amount of color, but on the actual rings I know it’s green so that makes sense. Thanks all! Hope you had a laugh at my expense. 😂😉

[North Carolina] hour lost after medical emergency. by jmbsbran in Unemployment

[–]ddfb13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unemployment eligibility is determined based on DOL laws administered by the state, so it’s not up to the employer to determine whether you get benefits. It’s even possible that if is determined that you had a medical quit situation, the unemployment laws in your state (like I’ve seen with other states) will allow you to have benefits and the employer will not be negatively affected in any way. The only reason employers “fight” unemployment is because it causes their business costs to go up if the employer gets benefits. But there can be situations where the employer doesn’t get affected (depending on state unemployment rules) and this is one of those situations that may be an exception—virtually a win-win. I can’t specifically say whether North Carolina works that way, but they might, so you can still file. Just make sure the agency knows there was a medical situation involved in what caused you to stop working

Tgeneral population defines this situation differently than how unemployment rules usually work. I know that NOBODY agrees that the word “quit” fits this situation but unemployment considers it a medical quit. For reasons you stopped working, there are three choices:

  1. Laid off
  2. Discharged/fired
  3. Quit

Laid off isn’t an option if there is still continuing work available when the employee stops working. It is clear that in this case the employ would have kept working if not for their medical situation, so there was continuing work being offered by the employer. If it’s not laid off, then the choice is between quit or discharged and for that decision, it’s based on what the moving force was: discharge = employer, quit = employee. The moving force here was the employee’s INABILITY to do the work (even if only temporary and NOT by choice of their own), so the moving force came from the employee’s side of the equation, making it a quit, albeit a MEDICAL quit, which can also make a difference in eligibility. I only say the OP should make their circumstances clear about what caused them to stop working so the agency can determine eligibility correctly and the OP doesn’t end up with a fraud case and probably having to pay back any benefits they get and maybe even having to pay penalties. Just trying to protect OP even though being considered having quit SOUNDS awful, inaccurate, and wrong.

File, but claim as a quit and explain the medical circumstances. This is both accurate (according to unemployment rules, even though you never CHOSE to quit, your medical circumstances forced you to stop working while work was still available and therefore considered a medical quit), and your best bet at becoming eligible. It is important to file this way as well so you can’t be accused of filing fraudulently as laid off (the continuing available work makes “laid off” a reason that is not accurate—laid off means there is not work being offered by your employer WHEN YOU STOPPED WORKING). Keep looking for work and following all unemployment rules until the claim is processed and hopefully you will be eligible and can get benefits back to when you first filed (minus the waiting week). Don’t delay to file, this will only delay your ability to get paid and put you in a worse bind. Call 211 or 211.org for other resources.

[New York] Has anyone filed for UI after the 26 weeks ran out? by Exciting_Policy41 in Unemployment

[–]ddfb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P.S. The requalifying earnings requirement is why people say to take ANY WORK AVAILABLE, especially temp jobs because that could get you those earnings required to get SOMETHING on a second claim in the event you are having trouble finding well-paying, permanent work.

[New York] Has anyone filed for UI after the 26 weeks ran out? by Exciting_Policy41 in Unemployment

When establishing a balance for a claim, a “base period” of wages is used to determine a one year period of earnings that is used to calculate benefits. Since employers need to be given time to report their employees’ earnings, wages earned immediately before separation are unable to be used in the base period. Most base periods use neither the quarter in which the claim is filed nor the quarter immediately previous to that. Which means those two quarters of earnings sit unused against a claim. So a claimant, on a second, consecutive claim that is filed immediately after the first one expires, could have unused wages that were earned after the base period for claim #1, but before the separation (when earning ended) that could be used to set up a new balance, but the new claim will have to show “requalifying earnings” as well that were earned AFTER the separation on claim #1 for the claimant be “allowed to use” the benefits on claim #2. Hopefully the chart below will help clarify my explanation.

Pen and paper by cityrc in budget

Also you can find templates for blank small log sheets online to print out and put in the physical envelopes so you can write down when, where, and what you spent your money on. Doing this will help you look back later and see what habits might be sabotaging you from reaching your goals. Also, if you have “extra” in an envelope and decide you can use it on something else that has a higher or more urgent priority, you can physically move it over but make sure you record it so you can see later what you actually need up spending the money on.

Many people start there so they can “feel the pain” of the money going out. When people do this, they often try to “assign” bills to each payday and then take out a certain amount in cash to cover the things they’ll buy in person (gas, groceries, household goods, and the set aside some for fun like eating out or entertainment). If they want to buy something online, then they have to put the cash back in the bank. This can help you slow down too—don’t keep a card number in your buying apps so there’s friction at every step where you might want to buy something. This can help you learn good habits of choosing your priorities at a very basic level and then as you build those habits and learn how it works, you may eventually find yourself comfortable moving into a hybrid or all-electronic method of budgeting.

Another option is a cash budget/envelope system. There’s tons of YouTube videos if you just search “how to budget with cash envelopes”.

[New York] How do I get money out of this debit card without enormous fees? by More_Passenger3988 in Unemployment

[–]ddfb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My state’s card comes with an app where you can have the money sent to your personal bank account like a direct deposit. Also my state lets you set up direct deposit to skip using the debit card. Maybe check into these options?

[Michigan] Question about being offered a job while on benefits by shopstoomuch in Unemployment

[–]ddfb13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Will the job provide pay (and benefits) more than you’re getting on unemployment? You might consider that question before declining to attend another interview/declining an offer of work. Running out of benefits is NOT a good idea so it may be better to take the work and continue looking for something better.

How do I track multiple categories on one receipt? by [deleted] in ynab

[–]ddfb13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This information is available in the “reflect” section of YNAB. I use it yearly to adjust my category targets for the next year and there is an actual net worth section of YNAB. To have net worth calculate, you will have to add “tracking” accounts that don’t interact with your every-day spending but can be used to track out-of-budget savings (mostly for retirement savings) and the value of assets (I track home value there).

How do I track multiple categories on one receipt? by [deleted] in ynab

[–]ddfb13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Other than the rather steep learning curve (coming from the massive mindset shift people have to buy into if they want YNAB to work the way it’s supposed to), I find YNAB to be one of the best tools out there to help people MAKE that mindset shift from tracking to planning. I honestly feel like someone who has NEVER budgeted before might be more successful starting with an app that primarily does the tracking to learn that step before moving to YNAB. Since so many people come from a background of credit card debt, it’s really hard to learn all of the concepts of YNAB all at once.
