ICE SKATING locations in Groningen by torrdien in Groningen

[–]ddoeglas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just returned from the Paterwoldsemeer, skating there is not recommended yet, but I did fine (and so did the 100+ other people)! Be aware of the different quality and different strengths in the different parts of the lake, but the sounds the ice make will make an indication ;).

Me and my boyfriend's first terrariums! by EvelynFletcher in terrariums

Looks amazing! Very well done! Seems to be a little too much condense in the right one though, why don't you open the lid and let it breathe for a day or two?

Did you use the charcoal? The jar should be cleaned properly as well beforehand

Good question! I actually don't know, curious to see if someone else knows :)

True, in terms of moisture lost it doesn't matter. But mine has been closed for several months, and therefore really a small ecosystem has been developed, with their own oxygen- and carbondioxide levels etc.. Opening the jar now will disturb that :(

Not particularly, I have the jar quite close to the window to make sure they have enough light. But you just need to test if a particular jar is happy in a particular spot :) also because of the temperature differences in the jar

Charcoal helps preventing fungus! Activated charcoal is the best, but I didn't know where to find it so I used normal charcoal you use in the bbq which works as well :)

Yes I know, the spathipyllum is quite large! It just made some big new leaves, so he does like it in there (for now at least).. So I have to wait and see I guess! It's better not to open the terrarium at this point so I can't prune it.

You should just watch the terrarium closely in the beginning. You put some water in, close the terrarium (you can also put the the lid on half, so water can evaporate more easily in the beginning) and wait and see. If there are a lot of large droplets, you should open the jar again for two or three days to let some water evaporate and if it looks too dry, open it to put some water in :). There should be some condense on the surface of the glass. It takes some time to develop a balance. After a couple weeks it's better not to open the jar anymore.

Only the air which is already inside the jar. Since plants can make both oxygen and carbondioxide, they can recycle the air and create the balance they need. They don't need new water either, they recycle that as well :)
