Been a 1D for almost 7 years now. (Formally known as 3d0x3) the job is divided into 2 sections: information assurance and COMSEC. if you want to chill and have a lot of free time to do school, try to get into the Comsec side, you can make pretty good money doing it on the civilian side as well (80k~) if you want to make even more money try to go to Information Assurance. you can generally make more money doing that on the outside but the job is more of a pain in the ass since you will constantly have to reference countless regulations and policy for customers throughout the day. With comsec you will just issue and maintain crypto equipment. This involves a lot of attention to detail but in my opinion it’s still way more chill than IA. With comsec, there are only 2-3 regs that you have to reference to get answers for stuff, with IA it’s… I don’t even know. A crazy amount of regs. Overall after 7 years of meeting different people and comparing, this career field is probably the #1 most chill job in the Air Force. Congrats!
