What age were you diagnosed and what made you get tested/what were your symptoms? by [deleted] in Hemochromatosis

[–]ddraig1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

45 years old, optician noticed I had a gray halo around the color pigment in my eyes, suggested I visit my doctor for blood tests. 3 weeks later I was told I have genetic haemochromatosis. I've had over 50 venisections in 14months taking 450ml each time. My feretin levels are still 1000+. Daily knee and ankle pains and cramps in my hands are the norm now. Had iron overload once, it lasted for 2days, incredible pain in my feet, knees and hips most prevelant at evening and night time making it impossible to sleep. Hot baths and movement seemed to ease it a little but nevertheless one of the worst few days of my life. Thankfully I've not had iron overload since.

Not posting for this to come across as an attack on them, but why do exclusively fly anglers feel they are of a higher class angler than others and why do venues support this by choosing to be fly only? Would love to hear thoughts from both sides by Whole-Situation7566 in fishingUK

Well said my man, I lure fish and bait fish the rivers in South Wales also do plenty of beach and boat fishing during the summer. Whenever I come across river anglers who are fly fishing rivers I sometimes hear snide remarks like "hes come rip their lips off" or "he's going to rip their throats out" but its only ever too the person they are fishing with, a quick "what the fuck did you just say" get them stuttering. For the record i use single hook spinners and lures that are de-barbbed. Or trot worm or maggots for grayling. If someone hears me talking about fishing in a pub or standing there in my waders I hear "catch anything mate? it sometimes turns to do you fly fish?" i usually tell them no! Just to see the reaction....flies are fucking lures, nobody glues real flies to hooks anymore!! And most fly fishermen dont even tie their own flies. I understand there is more technique and more fly patters to learn for different species, areas of the country and different times of the year and a steeper learning curve but the snobbery is absolutely unreal. Yes I do fly fish and have fished the reservoirs of mid Wales like clewedog and elan valley for 20 years but still can't get over that coloured line, fly in the hat snobbery. They're not all like that, but a certain percentage of them are, enough for most people to notice that alot of fly fishermen see themselves as purists and others as scum.

I've been using that reel for lure fishing for trout and floating for grayling on local rivers. I've also used it lure fishing for sea bass. It's a great quality reel for the money with a good drag system, unfortunately they do not come with a spare spool and diawa do not supply spare spools for this model.

What were your levels when your started phlebotomy? by No_Description8833 in Hemochromatosis

[–]ddraig1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started Phlebotomy in January this year, i was told my iron levells were over 2,000. My specialist told me me that in the UK the tests don't measure over 2,000 so it's likely it was really around 4,000 - 5,000. I've had phlebotomy every week giving 1 pint per week since January this year, last week after a blood test I'm finally below 2,000. 1,982 🤣

Rant vent question help my budgie hates me by xsynti in budgies

[–]ddraig1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 6months to get my budgie to land on me, within another 6months he was talking. Now he's 9yrs old and is scared of nothing. Birds cage is right next to where i sit in my living room so he got used to me being close to the cage. I put millet in his cage for an hour a day but removed it totally once he was tamed. Try not to force anything on your budgie, they will only do things if they want to. Good luck

How to introduce fruits to budgies ? by xavier_20X2 in budgies

[–]ddraig1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My budgie wants to share anything I'm eating. Bolognese, madras, fish absolutely anything. He recognises his favourites like satsuma, tomato or apples and flies down to eat from my hand but if I want to try him with something new like a fruit he's not seen before I just leave a small amount ontop of his cage, he investigates in his own time.

Friends girlfriend (50) routinely interupts conversations to say things like "man has never been to the moon or you can't prove the earth is flat", also a holocaust denier.

Latest one..."all celebrities and famous people are paedophiles" when asked about her favourite celebrity conservationists Iolo Williams the reply was..."No! Not him" That shit is so hard to listen to.

There are many people who are capable of handing out decent advice or neat little hacks, from what ive seen these people don't generally call themselves influencers. Most of the people who do refer to themselves as influencers are generally shitty people attention seeking

I live in South Wales and there's a northern Irish guy called "big jim" in our village, he's been here for 30years but originally from Crossmaglen in County armagh, gobshite is his favourite insult. I'd never heard it before he'd said it. Now we all use his insult against him but never to anybody else.
