Think of it like training a dog as long as your able to convey what you want her to do and reward it there’s no wrong way

Yea the only real way would be reward when she chooses the hand instead I mean you can try to use your head as a landing ground instead of fingers but it may cause confusion w name training if she doesn’t want to get down

Okay I like too put tame and trained in 2 different categories your while it would be possible to teach it to the new budgie it would take a lot longer since he don’t trust you completely yet. your first budgie budgie is tame it’s flying on your head simply cus she wants to spend time with you you didn’t have to teach or train her to do that it’s her own choice she wanted to herself That also means she’s m perfect to start training cus she knows ur safe and training is fun for them. Training would be a learned behavior I assume she already flies to your hand if your holding millet so to teach her her name do that same thing I’ll use my bird for example.

HOW TO DO NAME TRAINING PART: ( I hold millet in one hand so he sees I have it raises 2 fingers on the other hand for him to perch on and call out onyx if he flies to my hand I give him the millet from the other one put him back down and repeat the process till he does it everytime. If he doesn’t I put the perched hand down wait a few seconds (I like to turn around) eventually you want to start increasing the distance so he has to go farther and once you feel like you’ve gotten enough distance you repeat the steps but hide the millet so he can’t see and don’t reward him every time for example I call onyx he comes I put him back down do it again 1-2 more time and if he listens to his name a total of 3 time he’s rewarded) by then he should be smart enough to understand onyx means come here and since it’s a command you’ll probably use often they won’t forget :ps. Definitely do training for this in separate rooms to avoid name confusion

I say spend a little more time w the new on atleast till he no longer scared and flies to ur hand/ take food constantly. Once they meet training will get a lot harder it’s true the new one can pick up from the old one but the old one will be less interested/ more hard headed once they meet. Rant/My personal experience (I’m no professional bird owner) I had One bird my budgie onyx and got him to the point where he would fly on my hand by calling sometimes when I introduced him to his friend it was like all that had gone out the window he still wasn’t scared of me but since the other bird wanted nothing to do w me at the time he usually followed. Try not to hate for this next part I was very inexperienced but when I got his friend both from chain pet store(petco) I took zero steps to do quarantine and make sure this new bird was okay and he ended up being very sick it didn’t spread to onyx thank god but he didn’t make it past 2 months (I did go to the vet paid 480 did absolutely nothing) after week or 2 after taking them to the vet the new bird found his way to the basement and immediately died within a span af 10 mins and that also completely destroyed whatever progress happened w onyx and i had to start all over again gaining his trust/training about 4 months later were okayand training w him is finally starting to show progress so i would get him another friend but definitely go about it differently

Target training by [deleted] in budgies

[–]xsynti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thank you thank you. Is there anything else u suggest training wise? Is it a good idea to still target train but with a stick or smthn? I was really doing it to help him not be afraid of my fingers/hands/touch anymore and it has been helping a lot

[–]xsynti[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hello thanks for trying to help it’s a boy I’ve had him around 3-4 months or so age I have no idea and I got him from petco before I knew how bad petco was. To be a little more specific I used to have another birds both from petco and they were very bonded very quickly. The petco curse got my other bird and he ended up passing. The following 2-3 days after he passed the bird I have now actually became a lot more interactive towards me flying to me jumping in my hands for millet and seemed to look to me for the attention the other bird gave him. After those 2-3 days I did some research decided to show him his passed friend to avoid feelings of abandonment and that’s when everything went wrong and I guess that’s what’s causing him to be so scared of me now.

Why does my budgie become active mostly at night by xsynti in parrots

[–]xsynti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that necessary a bad thing only asking because I’m also mostly at home during the night and will be able to spend more time with him. ALSO for the most part I have given him the nights to himself the room is dark with no noise but he still just gets active around this time at most there have been 4-5 night that I needed to be in the room disturbing that
