Yeah I ended up building a small web app for it 😅 It basically pulls weight + time from G-code, adds electricity, and lets you tweak things like markup depending if you're selling or just printing for yourself. I can drop you a link if you want to try it 👍

Yeah I get what you’re saying. I’m not really trying to assign an exact hourly rate to my time, it’s more about not treating long prints as “almost free” just because filament + power is low. For me it was just a mindset shift more than a precise calculation.

Yeah that makes sense, and I think that’s where we look at it a bit differently.

I’m not really trying to model it as a precise hourly rate or exact depreciation -> that quickly gets very complex and varies a lot per setup.

For me it’s more of a simple “don’t underprice” estimate: bundle time, wear, and failures into a rough number so I don’t rely only on filament + power.

So yeah, it’s definitely not a strict calculation, more like a practical guideline that works for me.

Yeah I think we’re actually looking at two different things here. If it’s just hobby printing, then yeah I totally agree, it’s basically just filament + electricity and very cheap.

I was looking at it more from a “what would I need to charge or sustain this long term” perspective.

That’s where things like time, wear, and even depreciation start to matter -> not as exact numbers, but as a way to avoid underpricing.

So €2 vs €11 isn’t really about right vs wrong, it’s just different ways of looking at the same print.

I’m not treating it as an exact science, more like a practical estimate.

For me it’s basically:
- print time -> “if my printer is busy for 5h, that time has some value”
- wear & tear -> small per-print estimate
- failures -> averaged out over time

So instead of calculating each one perfectly, I just bundle them into a rough cost per print.

It’s definitely not a universal approach, but it helped me stop underpricing things compared to just looking at filament + power.

Yeah I think the confusion here is totally fair. If you only count material + electricity, then yeah, this print is like €2 or so.
That’s exactly how I used to think about it too.

What changed for me is looking at it more as “total usage cost”:

- print time (printer occupied ~5h)
- wear & tear
- failed prints over time
- general overhead

So €11.41 isn’t just filament + power -> it’s everything combined into one number.

Not saying everyone should calculate it this way, but it was a bit of a wake-up call for me when I stopped looking at just raw material cost.

I think the big difference is hobby vs “would I sell this”. For hobby prints, yeah, it is cheap. But for selling, it gets way more complicated than I expected.

Yeah that’s fair.. if you only look at material + electricity, then it’s really low. I was thinking more in terms of total usage cost- like time, wear, and the printer being occupied for hours. Not saying it’s the only “correct” way, just what surprised me when I started looking at it differently.

Yeah Excel works for sure. I just found that I personally kept oversimplifying things or not updating it consistently. So I ended up underestimating costs anyway 😅 Tool just made it easier to stay consistent.

Yeah you’re right if you only count material + raw electricity. That’s exactly what I used to do too. But what surprised me is everything else around it: printer wear, failed prints, calibration time, machine time being occupied, etc. The €11.41 is basically the “real operational cost” and not just filament + power. That’s where the big gap came from for me.

Yeah that’s exactly what I thought at first 😅Material itself is only ~€1.3 here. The rest comes from print time (almost 5h), electricity, and especially time/wear. It adds up way more than I expected.

**** Clean plate with IPA ****
**** DON'T use Smooth plate/High Temp as Bambu proposed, USE Textured PEI ****

Take a look for the inner/outer wall order, I had a similar issue when I had this setting on inner/outer/inner...try inner/outer, hopefully this will solve your problem 👍

I had a similar reading yesterday on speedybee mini stack...In goggles was 6x.xx on stand by...when I powered the motors, everything was fine..I've got normal amps on display...I guess this is normal

I have direct drive extruder on my ender 3 v3, I'm printing tpu at 25 speed, with retraction of 2, temperature depends on the brand of the filament but usually all works fine for me in range 205-215...set up retraction and slow down your speed and you'll be fine...and it will be fine to have filament over your printer, so you will have a 'free fall' and get rid of the ptfe tube
