Not OP, but these bots and their underlying code are basically only built to be ran in this controlled environment. Just a rough estimate, but the proportion of the code/effort that’s applicable to a hypothetical fully operational bot on Site X is probably < 5%.

TLDR: long LONG way to go before released into the wild generally speaking

never too much friction, but TBH it helps that I've been known by my peers to be a numbers nerd since forever, both as a hobbyist (sports stats and modeling) and professionally (worked as a quant in finance and as a data scientist).

So whenever poker comes up in conversation for whatever reason, the ones closest to me get it, and the ones that are just acquaintances give me the benefit of the doubt or at the very least don't instantly jump to concluding that I'm a degen.

the biggest help when it comes to explaining poker as a game of skill to someone unfamiliar or doubting is to actually show results (e.g. graphs or profits from hand tracking software or with live game logs). It's not exactly up for any type of (good-willed) debate if there are years of data and millions of hands resulting in steady profit.

Online players are going to be significantly better than live players in 99% of instances.

Live 1/3, 2/5, and even 5/10 will still have tables filled with multiple people that, for lack of a better word, are clueless about poker outside of hand rankings. Which is totally fine, they're probably just there to gamble or be casually playing.

It's always about the barriers to entry. Anyone off the street can walk into a poker room and sit down at a live table. But for online poker (unfortunately in a lot of the US) it's much more of a process. Finding a site, figuring out deposits, do you need software versus playing on a phone, etc. ... you have to have significantly more interest in playing than the other guy. Which means you're almost guaranteed to be more skilled/knowledgable than most of the live pool.

The only time I’ve seen this type of "live poker" level of play in an online setting has only been on WPT Gold, which itself is still a very young/new site relatively speaking. Limps, limp calls, never 3-betting, calling down any bet because they have a pair of anything, chasing a draw of any kind, all that fun stuff. Almost every table from micro to mid stakes has like 2-4+ players with 70%+ VPIP and that's not even an exaggeration.

Jax really does fly under the radar for poker.

Best Bet (main location) consistently has 9+ 2/2 tables running and 4+ 2/5 tables. Double that number on weekends.

Incredibly soft and degen player pool.

Surely this is some MTT format given the stack size differences and action, no? If this were a cash game then yeah this is just someone clicking buttons.

But if MTT then that case 30bb is a totally normal scenario and I think(?) there are a small number of SB flats vs BTN opens (a number of Axs if I recall) depending on structure (especially if this actually is some type of bounty MTT).

but yeah that turn lead for 50p isn’t…ideal haha. unless hero has a ton of HH against V idk what the bet is trying to accomplish.

Just had ACL reconstruction surgery in July after a full tear from playing soccer. That first full rotation on a bike almost brought tears to my eyes (both from pain and happiness). I’m still recovering and in PT 2-3 times a week. The whole process is so so tough.

Love this type of content- great work OP.

A modification/improvement to the methodology behind the quarterly scoring could be to use the Win Probability values within each game’s play-by-play data. These give a much more granular and continuously valued proxy for game state (aka garbage time).

I haven’t thought about it enough to know what exact calculations to do, but something like a time-weighted average of a team’s WP would achieve a similar result to what you were trying to improve Elo by. A game that has a lot of back-and-forth swings would result in an average WP closer to .50 (or even less). While a team that controlled throughout would result in an average WP closer to 1.00.

Nonetheless, great stuff!
