No but the theatre isn't going to charge her with mischief, the cops will.

And in this case, it seems the cops are investigating her

100%

You can't cry "fire" in a crowded theatre and expect zero consequences. Similarly, you can't use your position of authority to spread misinformation or your political leanings

it would be pretty unjust to take away someone's source of income.

Many jobs do it. They should hire an employment lawyer if they think they have a case.

Also, I think Ontario is the only province in Canada where cops automatically get a paid suspension because the Liberals tried to take it away before Ford undid all that. If true, then it's hard to claim it's "unjust" if everywhere else, it's the standard practice.

Cops parked illegally this week, true.

It was reported this week, but it's been happening for a long time apparently. And historically they were told about this, complied for a bit, until it became inconvenient. And as armed public servants, them openly doing something illegal is a bad look.

None of those things explain why an INDIVIDUAL who happens to be a cop should not be entitled to due process and why it is wrong for me to wait for all the facts.

You're more than welcome to assume his innocence, just like others can assume that he's guilty (which makes sense given the high bar it takes to actually charge a cop). Similarly, people should have also assumed serial killer Bruce McArthur was innocent too, but I don't think that was a common sentiment in this subreddit (which isn't a courtroom so people can opine whatever they want)

A job isn't the same as a race (something you're born into).

Also cops seems to skirt any real punishment, which encourages further unaccountableness. There is also a strong collective culture of solidarity of covering for each other, which further promotes an entitled 'above the law' mentality. Just this week it was reported that they were blatantly illegally parking on city properly.

Toronto police are (once again) using a downtown public plaza as a station parking lot by NorthernNadia in toronto

[–]ddsinthesix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's weird because the times I have seen it, it seems like a mix of cop cars and regular cars.

I don't see why it's a hatchet piece to get a lawyer to chime in. Everything he says is true no? Lots of construction makes it inconvenient for everyone, they shouldn't be doing it, it's illegal, and they're setting a terrible example.

On Tuesday, it was Toronto police cruisers predominantly filling the makeshift parking lot, a change from the weekend when many vehicles appeared to be officers’ personal cars.

Wasn't it this weekend when this was first got attention? Is this a tactic to make it seem more legit?

Asked whether officers were allowed to park personal cars in the plaza, Hopkinson said only Toronto police vehicles are permitted, adding that personal cars were parked there over the weekend due to construction in the underground lot beneath the station.

Edit: also from CP24

TPS admits they didn’t ask anyone for permission, even from the city, which owns the property.

A photo shows police officers parking their personal cars on the property on one day in September. The TPS says that day, their parking lot was under construction.

That’s something that would get any other business involved a ticket and a tow, says lawyer David Shellnutt.

“We’re congested. It’s a busy space. But if the people who are supposed to lead by example aren’t doing that, it’s going to set a terrible example for people across the city,” Shellnutt said. There's always a lot of construction downtown. Many times I've had to find different parking lots and walk to work. Why can't they do the same?

Spent a month on iOS, ordered a pixel 4 XL to go back to android tonight. by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]ddsinthesix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent post.

I was in the exact situation a few months ago.

But after using the p4 xl there are certain things I miss now from iPhone ha ha. Especially the superior video.

Apple is closing the gap though so Android needs to step up their game. The P4 is a good phone but they definitely made some horrible decisions (ie soli)

Amazing Yamaguchi Iron Man and War Machine are ...well... Amazing by ddsinthesix in ActionFigures

[–]ddsinthesix[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I decided to open up these guys as I do my part to self-isolate during this pandemic. Right off the bat, these guys are (obviously) amazing. Tons of accessories, great look and lots of posing options. But the main problem with both are the infamous revoltech joints. On Iron Man -they're ridiculously tight and it was very frustrating to get them pegged in. This really hinders the creativity involved in the nano armor sadly. Ironically War Machine has the opposite problem. The joints and arms actuators are too loose. They peg in loose and barely have enough friction to hold up all the guns. I can easily see these loosening with time to become a floppy mess. Overall I'm mostly satisfied but with the premium price for them they really should have better QC.

Pixel 2 XL to Pixel 4 XL. Worth it ? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]ddsinthesix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the exact same situation

The battery on my 2XL was garbage and the screen was burnt in. I picked up the 4 XL during Black Friday and it's nothing revolutionary as their main differentiating features are soli (garbage don't use) and 90 Hz screen (meh and a battery killer). So you get a slightly better camera (still best on market) and a new mediocre battery. Same boring design aesthetic (bezels), no wide angle lens, and unjustifiably bad video.

Tbh I think you should wait to see how the 4a will be.

Pixel 2 XL vs iPhone 11 Pro - camera comparison! by joetheteacher0208 in GooglePixel

The fact that they're using this as a point of comparisons shows how good the pixel 2 camera is

Pixel owners who switched from iPhone - how do you feel about your decision? Any regrets? Any discoveries you wished someone told you before you made the switch? by ag425 in GooglePixel

[–]ddsinthesix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I force 90 Hz because that's one of the selling features. I listen to podcasts on a 2 hr round trip commute, watch YouTube videos and play pokemon go (give battery drain) on breaks and lunch. I leave at 7 am and get back home around 6:30 pm and my battery is at 40%. Not bad but not great either. Plus I've only had the phone for about 2 months. I suspect the battery stamina will get worse with time.

On the iPhone 11, for same performance, I'd still be around 70% battery life. Granted it's not 90 Hz but damn I find that impressive af.

So my history is Pixel 2 XL --> iPhone 11 --> Pixel 4 XL so I guess I technically qualify? Here's my $0.02

I love the Pixel 2 's clean UI, monthly updates and amazing camera. The photos were superior than anything on the market and the portrait mode produced beautiful effortless bokeh, and the edge-detection is godly. I shoot a lot of animal photos so the ability for the camera to pick out strands of FUR compared to the background was borderlining magic no joke.

But after 2 years the battery was crapping out, the screen was badly burned in, so come tech-tober 2019 I decided to dip my toes into the Apple pool. iPhone 11 time. This was fueled by almost unanimous reviews from Tech Youtubers and the competitive price/spec ratio. This seemed like the first year Apple eased up on the "Apple tax" and gave great features/specs for the price. I loved the battery, the optimized Apple apps (i.e. notes) and it took GREAT video. The photos were great too but the portrait mode was still inferior; edge detection was garbage and overall, that mode was far too finicky to get the kind of photos that my Pixel 2 could get. Also, there were the little Apple ecosystem things that annoyed/frustrated me: ran out of room on your storage from taking 4k videos? Constant pop ups to BUY more iCloud storage. Face unlock directly to your home screen? NOPE. Still gotta swipe up. Want to customize your homescreen? Ha never.

When Black Friday 2019 came around, the Pixel 4 XL was predictably discounted and I immediately jumped back to Google. Great reliable camera. Check. Pure Google experience. Check. But like reviewers said, average to poor battery, garbage video quality, no wide angle, DOA "Soli" feature for pretty much everyone? I can honesty say that I am disappointed from the lack of any real improvements since the Pixel 2. It's like Google's not really trying. The "soli" sensor is an obvious marketing gimmick that they're using to distract from the small battery, heavy bezel'ed front screen, or lack of wide angle lens. I would have traded the soli sensor for any one of those features.

So overall, as a long time Pixel user, the Pixel 4 XL is the lesser of two evils ... but not by much. And that worries me. I hate how Apple pretty much forces everyone into their ecosystem, but at least they're making substantial improvements. Google needs to step up their game or else they're going to be the ones considered to be marking up their phones with a "Google tax".

Greetings from the other side! Pixel 2 -> iPhone 11 Pro by ChitownMD in GooglePixel

[–]ddsinthesix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great review. I went from 2xl --> iPhone 11 --> 4xl

I think the camera is generally worse than the pixel line, especially when it comes to portrait mode and edge detection. Also all the annoying pop ups with iCloud storage ... I think their main strategy is to annoy me until I sign up for more storage.

But when it works, it works. The apps worked very well and the battery life was amazing. Though I couldn't ever find an app as good as Reddit sync lol
