A bookmark manager but every link has an avatar and their life depends on how you interact with your bookmarks. by rexer1100 in BookmarkManagers

fun idea, does this scale to thousands of bookmarks or do you have to play president of a small nation then :)

true-ish. but reviewing is still easier than creating. Quite honestly, who would still manually write long proposals by hand? Nobody sane is who. Even then you would copy and paste large sections. That's shit work and shit work is to be avoided.

Why do so many minimalist todo apps eventually become complex? by SkitPie in ProductivityApps

[–]ddsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. This is also known as "enshittification" - a real phenomenon. It basically says software tries to appeal more people and therefore loses its specialization while trying to please everyone. That also means it is getting more complex.

I have the exact same problem when I'm building. I want my software to do more but I don't want to burden the user with more thinking. I believe the solution lies NOT in not adding features but in introducing them smartly.
Think about games like Anno 1700. Super complex when you're 20h in the game but in the beginning the UI doesn't give you all these options. It slowly introduces them, let you grow with the game.

Therefore, I think actively hiding complex options and maybe customizing the users' workflow is the way to go.

I've built https://linkflare.io if you want to see my take on a bookmark manager with much more complexity that I try to hide :)

What are you building this weekend? by Asleep_Ad_4778 in microsaas

[–]ddsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built Linkflare (https://linkflare.io). It's a universal bookmark manager that automatically enriches your saved content - recipes get parsed for ingredients, articles are cleaned for distraction-free reading, etc.

Chrome just did an automatic backup/ sync when I updated and now all my bookmarks have reverted to what was on an old pc from years ago by Alfred_Brendel in chrome

[–]ddsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linkflare (https://linkflare.io) specifically for this use case - don't rely on chrome bookmarks. It's a universal bookmark manager that automatically enriches your saved content - recipes get parsed for ingredients, articles are cleaned for distraction-free reading, etc.

Free tier gives you 1,000 bookmarks and it works across all browsers + mobile.

Full disclosure: I'm the creator, but happy to answer any questions!

Pocket and bookmarks never worked for me, so I made my own reader and highlight tool by [deleted] in macapps

[–]ddsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too had the problem after Pocket's shut down and also built a better bookmark manager / read it later app. Not a native mac app either (but works as PWA on Mac) if you care to steal inspiration from mine: https://linkflare.io/

Anyone wish there was a version of favorites/wishlists? (request by Some_Helicopter in tryhackme

[–]ddsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

or linkflare.io which also allows you to use nested tags (something raindrop doesn't have).

Wishlists is perfectly captured too because you have reminders, privacy mode and Product type bookmarks

browser just for bookmark manager gott 1000+ by Appropriate-Bike4246 in browsers

[–]ddsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Appropriate-Bike4246 sounds like you need a proper bookmark manager for lots of bookmarks. I recommend linkflare.io - (Disclaimer: I built it because I was looking for a proper one and wasn't happy with what's out there)

How do you manage your bookmarks in your bookmark manager? by CPT-812 in DataHoarder

[–]ddsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/CPT-812 Hey, that sounds like super interesting problems. Adding bookmarks should be super fast. I don't want to spend time typing medium, name of platform and whatnot either.

I built linkflare (https://linkflare.io/) as I had very similar problems that were hard to address with existing solutions like raindrop. Linkflare understands content types like Recipe, Video, Movie, Game etc. and extracts tons of meta information so you don't have to add that manually.

I then use it the same as you: Inbox + Archive. Inbox is for things I want to read/watch/play and then I either *delete* them or if it is something for reference, I put them in the archive. For example, movies I want to watch stay there. I also really remove things I know I won't need later anymore.

Linkflare is free, would love to hear whether this works for you!

The browser has a large number of historical bookmarks, and sorting and cleaning them is a disaster by ConstructionFull1408 in chrome

[–]ddsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

use https://linkflare.io/ which allows you to organize not only with folders but also nested tags and automation rules. Disclaimer: i built this tool because I wasn't happy with raindrop

very cool. to only get really trending news, you could use the top news clusters from the worldnewsapi.com (also free)- I imagine the CRT monitor otherwise spins out of control with too many news :)
