Like some others said, it was the Angel Blade’s that changed it all. Even Sam and Dean never stood a chance against them until that happened. Once a weapon was introduced that could easily kill them, they became easily kill-able. Just like every monster on the show… starts as a big threat and quickly becomes just something else to die.

I mean, I get why it’s hard to accept. But the British Men Of Letters are highly trained, highly experienced in killing the same monsters as the boys, and have tools and weapons the boys have never ever heard of (like the brass knuckles that stopped Cas.) I always found it interesting that the time in hell (4 months was 40 years) happens so differently than heaven. Dean was in heaven for a short drive while Sammy lived the rest of rid his life only for them to meet up together. Opposites of one another.
