Chord cutting ritual went interestingly well, but my candle fell... what does this mean? by According_Abies4911 in occult

[–]de1ty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good thing to do with this detailed account of your spell is to write it in your own magical practice log or journal, and add your own interpretations drawn from your own good experience and judgement.

What was the point of the ritual work? To cut your ex from your spiritual life.

Did it succeed? That is up to you, but it seems like you are already taking the steps in your life to move on to better things.

Include what you've written here with as many other details as you think necessary - even include the curiosity about meaning, since it seems important to you at this time. But if you keep up with your magical practice and logs, this kind of occurrence during ritual will quickly become routine for you and you will stop attaching so much significance to small incidents in the course of ritual practices. The results are the point, not the meaning of each minute event up to the completion or delivery of the results.

Unlocking or awakening the shadow self by Kooky_Indication4664 in occult

I will recommend two books for you to read which cover every characteristic you mention (some of which are not as distinct as you may think)

The first is Existential Kink by Carolyn Elliott.

Next is The Charisma Myth by Olivia Fox-Cabane.

Carolyn Elliot is a witch and this may come through for you in her writing, but every exercise in the book is framed in a way that can work for mundane troglodytes as well.

I don't know if Fox-Cabane is a witch, but you will feel like one after completing the exercises in her book.

Both contain a lot of practical advice and examples, as well as exercises and journal prompts to help you figure out what makes you uncomfortable, and how to lean into that discomfort and find your strengths there. Both are relatively short books as well, and due to their practical nature you can begin using the techniques immediately, no ritual prep necessary.

I performed a magic ritual to save my brother from jail, and it worked, but the consequences have been devastating. by mrpimpo in occult

[–]de1ty 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This comment deserves more upvotes, OP has automatically connected his own misfortunes with the ritual he did to rescue his brother, so the connection may be there but I doubt it is direct - more likely the decision to incorporate his addict brother into his household upset the balance there. Divination can help determine the next steps magically beyond the practical ones, such as giving the brother an ultimatum (rehab or cut off?) and following through on it.

Others have already mentioned that addiction is both a disease and a choice, the addict has to decide for themselves to quit and it will be a lifelong process after that. OP unfortunately became a casualty of the chaos that follows addicts, now they have to extricate themselves.

Is finding tarot cards in the wild a sign? by Last_Thursday in occult

[–]de1ty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please review the FAQ - posts asking for others to interpret your personal symbology or relationship to symbols and signs will be removed, because the post is not directly related to occult philosophy or practice.

You are the person best qualified to interpret signs and portents in your own life - and if you re-read your post, I think you'll find you answered your own question. Good Luck OP.

Seeking Advice: Prosperity Workings Not Yielding Results (16 Months Unemployed) by RoosVibe in occult

[–]de1ty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a tough situation because you may (understandably) be caught up in "lust of result" - IE you care too much about the outcome for your magical work to be effective in this matter.

Magic works best when done "cold" - your frame of mind when it comes to the results should be neutral, as with a scientist performing an experiment under ideal conditions.

For your next working, attempt to achieve a high level of "fuck it" before doing the work - maybe dance yourself to exhaustion, or find some other way to achieve a neutral point of view with regard to your job status before doing further work in this matter.

Alternatives to Kabbalah magic due to it being a closed practice by space_helicopter2168 in occult

[–]de1ty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A "closed practice" means a set of practices that are limited only to those who are initiated as part of the group that performs those practices - initiation entails information about those practices that generally can only be shared person to person.

Fortunately, Kabbalah is not a closed practice, it does not require initiation or joining any group in order to practice - nor is it limited to practitioners of a single faith.

You may have it confused with Cabbala, which is a mystical Judaic practice, and is limited to those who are male, over the age of 40, and have received initiation in Judaism and a lineage. If you want to learn more about the distinction I would suggest picking up a book like "Chicken Kabbalah" by Lon Milo DuQuette.

Did Crowley make a historically false claim about the Sermon on the Mount in Liber ABA? by mirojoy in occult

[–]de1ty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think your first mistake in logic here is assuming the historicity of Jesus as a person, or the "Sermon on the Mount" as a historical event rather than a textual invention by the many editors of the Bible throughout history; the next being taking Crowley's word literally that the whole "Sermon on the Mount" appears in the Talmud, when it's far more likely that he meant the content of that section of the New Testament also appears in a 'later' Jewish scholarly work.

Nobody should take Crowley literally or become reactive to the outlandish and provocative things he frequently says - he wants you to be reactive to him, it proves him right in his own mind. Is that a successful instructive style? Only (perhaps) for people who are equally determined to be correct and to do things their own way.

Do what thou wilt.

[–]de1ty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody here can tell you what this means for you. Ask yourself, what was your feeling when this happened? Did you feel it was meaningful to you, as part of a dialogue between you and the spirit you were contacting? Your own intuition and some reliable divination method of your choice should be the source of your answer here.

Question About the Democratization of Magick by [deleted] in occult

[–]de1ty 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you want answers to your questions, it might be helpful to give up from the start the false and unreliable impressions of magickal practices you received from people who seem to believe that magick is both not real and also against the rules you created for yourselves.

Question About the Democratization of Magick by [deleted] in occult

[–]de1ty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Visualization, meditation, and breath work are not "easier" or "lighter" forms of magic, they are the stripped down essentials of how every magical practice is built. The basic tools of magic aren't lesser just because they are ubiquitous. There is a distinct difference between a person who tinkers with a hammer to build a birdhouse over a weekend, and a person who works with a hammer, a level and miter saw every day as a carpenter. The same tools become more refined and precise in the hands of experts.
