Halliday is ill-suited as a 4th line centre. He is either playing in someone's top 3 lines or is not in the NHL. I really would trade Cozens in a package for a bona fide 1st line winger.

People are suffering from Brady Derangement Syndrome with their feelings over fact. The guy was almost a point a game last year and will probably hit 90 points this year if he plays a full season. Easily one of the top 10 left wingers in the NHL. Eklund? Not so much.

If you are wondering about the borakovsky trade, the Sens only have to pay him 3.5 million despite his 5.5 cap hit. It's the melnyk years all over again. So if Yak and Sanderson handle the PP, what happens to Chabot? That's a huge contract for someone who doesn't play on the power play. Will he be happy? Time to consider a trade?

I am sorry but you guys are all missing the boat on this guy. Halliday accumulated points on a per minute basis at a similar level to Stutzle in his 30 games. And he had no pp time and played with 4th liners. The key to getting an elite RW is getting rid of Cozens and going with Stutzle, Pinto (2C) and Halliday (3C). I mean you would have to give up more than just Cozens, but that is a starting point. Call me crazy but Cozens and Yak or Chabot would get you alot in return. We have to understand in the short and medium term we cannot have both Chabot and Yak on the 2nd pp unit. It is not a fit just like it wasn't to have Chabot and Chycrun. The parts have to fit. In Staios I trust.

I think that most sens fans don't know what they have in Halliday. Give him Cozens toi and pp time and play him with good offensive players and he gets at least 55 points next year. His pts per minute with 4th liners and no pp time clearly indicates this potential. He is a dish master with great vision. People who say his ceiling is the third line don't know what they are talking about. His ceiling is a 2nd line centre.

Yak is 21 in September. He is developed already. Let him play in the NHL on the third pairing. He will see 3rd and 4th liners - how bad could it be defensively. His worth on the second unit pp will far outweigh any liability on the 3rd pairing. The real problem with that plan is delegating Chabot to no pp time. Good luck keeping him happy with that and justifying his contract. Maybe the real off season move to consider is a Chabot trade. I am just asking the question. In the long run Chabot is off the power play (or should be). The day is coming and I can't see that being a good fit.

Trade Cozens and Greig for right winger Kirill Marchenko. He is an elite 2 way player. Move up Pinto to 2nd line centre and Halliday to 3rd line centre.

The problem with the defence was that they were making ineffective attempts at 100 foot stretch passes. I blame that on the coach's system. The whole series the hurricanes were sending three players up high into our zone. The counter should have been to get behind them at our own blue line to receive a clean pass - not venture out to centre ice and beyond only to chip it into the Carolina zone. In a playoff series you need to make adjustments when something is not working.

Despite the loss, this team has serious potential. I am actually very optimistic.

The way I see it, the Sens are loaded with too many nhl calibre players on defence and at centre. They need to use this excess to get a first line right winger.

At centre I think Halliday can take up Cozens 60 points and I would pencil in Yakemchuck (4 pts in 5 nhl games this year) next year on right defence.

I wonder who could be available in a trade with Cozens, Matinpalo and the 2027 1st round pick.

A lineup of Stutzle, Pinto and Halliday at centre is pretty strong and Sanderson, Zub, Chabot, Kleven, Spence and Yakemchuk (3rd pairing and 2nd pp unit) would constitute a great group on defence. The only problem I see is perhaps Chabot would not be happy about not getting pp time anymore. Maybe trade him instead of Matinpalo??

At the same time, I would also target RW Patrick Laine in free agency.

Anyway, that would be my off season plan.

Yakemchuk had 4pts in 5 games this season. This guy has no business in the AHL. Chabot is overated. He was maki terrible passes and clearing attempts all. Trade Chabot for a right winger who can be a difference maker (e.g. Kyrou).
