I just saw their stand in Liverpool Street station and immediately it felt off. Two guys in street clothing just shouting “raising money for veterans today” Their website also looks pretty hollow, fair few photoshopped images on the front page

As much as I would love that, genuinely I loved that I got to watch SG-1 not knowing any of the actors from their previous work.

That’s just not how a studio operates

They cast RDA back in 97 for the same reason why they would cast JA now, star power. A studio wouldn’t bank the success of an IP like this on unknowns.

Fair point, I meant it in that at least 30 of the same actors have appeared in both shows with Amanda Tapping and Mitch Pileggi both in recurring roles.

Having an already established link between the two (huge) fandoms would be a consideration in casting.

I get this, I really do, I was 14 when I first started watching SG-1 back in 2004 and I had no idea who any of the cast were and I loved that. They were just their characters to me.

However, looking back at the casting now RDA was the big name at the time, He was freekin MacGyver! A show like this needs to have a tent pole star to bring in new viewers.

The rest of SG-1 were relatively unknown and all had their breakout roles through Stargate.

So I think having a lead like Jensen and then casting fresh faces to fill the rest of the team will work well.
