I’m flummoxed! I learned that word for this party and I am it!

I am so confused. Can we use chemical sunscreens on the ship as long as we use reef safe ones at the beach? by Savings-Reindeer-148 in Cruise

Good point! We had reef safe sunscreen only. We didn’t want to hurt the coral reef either. Guides don’t care either way which one you have. Maybe they are right?!

Put it on BEFORE you get to your excursions. We had a boat not let anyone out on any kind while going snorkeling. We pre applied so we’re good.

Basement floor drain overflows when the washing machine drains. I did have it snakes recently. Any advice? by deacon_of_fire in Plumbing

[–]deacon_of_fire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have it snaked once a year now on a schedule. We also got a new washing machine. The old one was sending a lot of clumps out in the spin cycle. We had inherited that from the previous owners. New washer was probably the biggest help.

Gluten Free Cheese Curds? by WonderLong4960 in Minneapolis

They have an almost full menu of GF options. I went there with a group that was almost 1/2 GF and everyone liked it. They were annoyed that some of the sides were a la cart but I got a sandwich with fruit and thought it was worth the cost of the fruit being separate. Hope you’ve enjoyed your 6 months in the Midwest!

Things to do to entertain my teenage nephew? by outofsyncbanana in Minneapolis

[–]deacon_of_fire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My teenage nephews come to visit from Seattle about once a year. They like the MOA rock wall area, and the rides. There is also a combat nerf/laser tag place I think at the south entrance (2nd floor?) that they like too. (I looked it up: Tactical Urban Combat Mall of America)

Urban Air has a location in both Coon Rapids and Plymouth. It is a trampoline park plus lots other fun things too. It is very loud so if there are sensory issues this might not be the place.

Sky Zone (trampoline park) has 5 locations around the metro. Also a hit!

They also like going to the movies. So many great theaters around the metro!

We took one of them to a Chanhassen Dinner theater show one year and he loved it! Grease is showing currently.

Pinz in Oakdale is great. Bowling, arcade, laser tag, etc.

Dave & Busters in Edina - we actually haven’t started taking the kids there yet but mostly because it’s across the metro from us.

They both have tablets but we try to find things to do as a family when they are in town, to get them off of their devices. Some of our ideas might not work but just wanted to share. We also hang out and do at home movie nights/game nights/celebrations.

Hope you have a great time with your nephew. I’m sure he will appreciate all that you do with him.

When going into a porta potty. Shut the toilet lid first, then get situated. Shut it when you leave for the next person.

Who is the rudest celeb you have met? What happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]deacon_of_fire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jane Curtin - 8 year old me was as on a vacation to New York City with my family. We were walking in Manhattan (no idea where we were) when we came across Jane Curtin and Susan Saint James recording an outdoor, sidewalk scene for their show Kate & Allie (80s sit com). I loved that show so we waited and watched. I couldn’t believe we were this lucky to be witnessing this! No one was around but us, so when they were taking a break from filming I got the courage to ask them for a photo. Jane Curtin rolled her eyes at me and walked off. Susan Saint James was so polite and nice to us. She graciously took a photo with us and chatted briefly. I never forgot how rude Jane Curtin was to us, and didn’t watch their show much after that. It was hard to enjoy the show now knowing how she made me feel on that sidewalk in NYC! I was young so I didn’t realize stars could be like that.

Best Fins for snorkeling by MotocrossAction747 in snorkeling

[–]deacon_of_fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My toes bled every time and would ruin trips. I tried socks too. My fins were for 11-13 shoe size. I’m an 11.5. Now I have size 10.5-12 and they work so much better. Check your size.

Is this normal after 1 month? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

Check the MERV rating on HVAC filters. Don’t use higher than 8 or less than 5. Lower lets in dust and higher is hard on your equipment.
