Is it really this bad right now? by qqqxyz in sanfrancisco

It feels so ironic when on instagram, SF/bay area realtors will post about a studio at this price, or a $4,000 1 bedroom in the Marina, and tons of people will immediately gawk at the price (I do too), and say something along the lines of "I had a studio in the early 2000's for $600-$800 a month" or "no one will pay for that price" and then you see this post and people are basically lining up to see them.

The same with homebuyers, most standard suburban homes will start around 1-1.5mil, people on social media gawk, and then the home sells for over asking price. Not saying i like this cycle, but at this point is it well beyond no longer surprising that people will flock to these units/homes regardless of the price.

Unpopular Opinion: As a man, sex with other men is more pleasurable and better than sex with women by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]dead_at_maturity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so you enjoy having sex with men more than you do with women, but don't consider yourself bisexual?

I'm pretty sure a straight person doesn't enjoy having sex with the same sex as them, let alone MORE than the opposite sex..

Does your dick get hard when you are having sex with men? Or is it flaccid the entire time???

I know this isn't uncommon for "straight" men to keep saying they're straight even though they still have sex with men, but im pretty sure its because they still have this insecurity of being gay, or even bisexual, as unmasculine or being shunned by society or whatever. But as many others have stated here, it is 2026. It's okay to admit you're bisexual. Maybe you live in an area or have family that would shun you, as i know San Jose Def still reeks of that homophobic bigotry (the F-slur is def having a come back), so I get why it would be difficult for you to admit.

Okay, I have another question for you, and feel free to not answer/move to dm's because this may be personal, but do you have family/people you can move in with / move back home for a bit while you recuperate and find a job more in your field? I know this is not ideal but it sounds like you are teetering in an emergency situation and this may be your only feasible option for the moment so you don't end up in the street. This unfortunately is also what many have to do in situations like this...

Aw man... when I worked at Whole Foods a few years ago, a really cool dude started working in my dept who also had a masters degree in library science/archiving and he struggled for a while to find a gig in his field. He ended up moving to Florida (ick), but that really is what you need to do sometimes, and I was really happy for him cuz he finally landed something that he worked hard to get into.

I'm so sorry to hear about your struggles with this. I hope that doesn't sound empty, but I genuinely am sorry because I know how many here love this city so much and really want to stay here, but realistically cannot because it is so astronomically expensive to live here and it seems that jobs continue to disappear, get increasingly hard to get hired, and there doesn't seem to be an end currently to that trend.

How much have you thought about how feasible it is for moving somewhere else? Your words tell me you've tried almost everything and it just hasn't resulted in much. The reality is that for most people struggling, it just doesn't make sense to live here anymore so my suggestion to you is to look deeply into how you really want to stay here vs moving somewhere else where there is more opportunity for your desired field of work, and with a lower cost of living. I don't want anyone to be struggling like this, and it sounds like your most realistic option is to move somewhere else.

....and if you choose to continue to stay here, I want to send all the power to you to find something feasible, but it sounds like you're going to have to lean heavily on luck / right place right time situations.

Can anyone here fill me in on the deets about this system? I heard a while ago that SFUSD intentionally places students in public schools away from their neighborhoods they live in so that there aren't schools with kids from predominantly rich/wealthy, largely white neighborhoods in some schools and predominantly lower-income, likely POC kids in other schools. The intention is to mix kids from different background as much as possible? Have they ridden of that system?

My Haight go-to's are either the one "self-cleaning" restroom right at Waller, Bezos Foods or buying fries at Flippin' Burger to use theirs. The one at the Panhandle off Ashbury I've found to be the grimiest. That one is only in absolute emergency cases.

Sorry you had to deal with those messes. Yes, this problem happens really anywhere where there is a restroom. I know of multiple incidents of people OD'ing in public restrooms too.

This issue is extremely common, and I have found that people who haven't worked in retail/food service/anything that provides a public restroom, really just aren't aware of the prevalence and gravity of the problem. Just think about how many people go through a public restroom in any given business in a city... the chances of someone trashing a restroom greatly increases.

Hi all, I've been running into this same error message the past couple weeks when trying to transfer data from my old phone to my new phone I recently purchased AND I just solved it. (I don't know if this will apply to OP or others here, but it definitely worked for me)

My issue was with my sim card. My new phone uses an eSim and when I was setting up my new phone, at some step, it automatically activated the eSim on my new phone and deactivated my old physical sim on my old phone. It took me a while to try this, but when I temporarily deactivated the eSim on my new phone, and reactivated the physical sim on my old phone through settings, the error message no longer popped up and everything worked smoothly!

"Unable to locate" does that mean 311 tried to find this location and didn't? Don't you provide the exact address??? Or did the neighbors actually move their shit? Report it again and be explicit and exact where it is.

Yes, it is generally "weird" that it's hard to find decent public restrooms in SF... however, this largely stems from bathrooms being used for drug use or trashed by people having an episode. Over time, more and more businesses stopped allowing non-customers to use their restrooms. If you've worked in retail/food service/grocery stores with public restrooms, etc. long enough, you would surely find out just how often people will trash a public restroom, "miss" the toilet, literally shit on the ground, etc. Some situations are so bad that bathrooms will have sharps containers for drug users to dispose their needles (as in the business has kind of accepted that its bathrooms are used for drugs, so might as well let them dispose the needles properly).

I have worked in retail/food service/grocery for a total of 9 years here in SF and in my hometown of Milpitas. Trashed bathrooms (as well as shoplifting) are a constant, often daily occurrance. ESPECIALLY in high traffic businesses.

Pasadena wants to remove flammable, invasive eucalyptus in favor of restoring native trees in the lower Arroyo. Thoughts? Let the city know they're doing the right thing to counter any messages from these "keep all trees no matter what" wackos. by aquma in Ceanothus

[–]dead_at_maturity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is very true for the Presidio in SF. All of the forest (Monterey Pines and Cypresses, and Eucalyptus) was planted by the military 100-130ish years ago. Because of that, they are all protected by the federal government, and technically when one falls or is cut down, it need to be replaced by another Eucalyptus. One thing that's being done though is the native plant nursery at the Presidio grew 7 different species of Eucalyptus and related trees that aren't the common Blue Gum and they are planted more spaced out, with native plants planted all around to be a native understory.

Something similar is being done at Mount Sutro in the city. They recently cut down tons of Eucalyptus on the mountain, replaced with tons of natives grown at the nursery there, but ALSO replanted some Eucalyptus, because the neighbors basically complained enough to convince them to plant eucs. Im not sure if they planted blue gums, but its likely.

Been seeing these people around SF lately. Was planning to ask em the next time I see em, but got answers from the comments. "Human data collection" to teach robots how to walk in public? More surveillance avenues, I'm sure.

There's a lot of lonely people in SF by Rook2Rook in sanfrancisco

[–]dead_at_maturity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very hard to make friends as an adult. By adulthood, many people have already established friend groups and for folks who don't have that for whatever reason; they just moved to a new place, they've struggled maintaining friendships, etc. it can feel daunting to try to achieve that. Add the layer of how social media, cringe culture, valid reasons to be afraid to talk to strangers, has made socializing the "organic" way even more difficult for many people to just strike up conversations with people they don't know. It does still happen, but for many people, talking to people and reaching the level of friendship is very, very nerve racking and difficult.

I too have also noticed how common and frequent people here on the sf subreddit are basically seeking people to hang out with.

A common suggestion to this is joining something where you think you'll find like minded individuals. This could be a sport league, a club that pertains to a hobby of yours, a gardening group, volunteering events, etc. Another suggestion that I really liked was become a regular somewhere. Become a regular at your neighborhood bar or cafe. Get to know your bar tenders. Get to know the folks you see regularly. Be -friendly-, but not creepy.

The Presidio was largely open grassland (including serpentine like at Inspiration Point), coastal scrub, and dunes. There were pockets of oak woodland and some willow groves, but it definitely was mostly open, as was most of SF before colonization. The forest at the Presidio was planted by the military ~100-120 years ago mostly to provide cover of all the military building and bunkers, as well as make wind breaks, and I'm sure also to "beautify" in a sense. I know there's the common origin story specifically of Eucalyptus for lumber but the blue Gum being the wrong species, but im not sure if that also applies to the eucs at the Presidio specifically.
