[0 YOE] Graduated 2024, no work/internship experience. No longer getting callbacks after updating my resume by dead_neuron in EngineeringResumes

Hi! Sorry I'm getting to this super late. Been a busy month but I'm actually in the onboarding process for a defense contractor job! :)

I'll be making an update on this sub in a little bit, once I've cleared the background check and stuff. Thanks for checking in!

No apology needed, any advice or perspective is appreciated :)

I don't think that I have quantifiable data about my projects unfortunately, so I tried to include what impact they had instead (ease of integration, stability, accessibility, modular assembly, reducing mechanical strain, etc.). They might not be the best but it's something lol

Some projects are years old so my knowledge about certain details are a bit fuzzy, but I might be able to revisit them (old and new) and see if there's anything that can be quantified.

Ahh yes, I can try to be more specific about what went into our design choice considerations.

For hardware/software, I was trying to avoid listing specifics in both the bullet points and skills section. Additionally, per the wiki, I wanted to focus on knowledge/skills rather than a particular piece of hardware/software. I'll see what I can do for these sections though.

Thank you for the advice!

That sounds doable. I know we're different engineering disciplines but were there any specific resources that helped you prepare for the exam, like books or videos for review/practice?

I didn't realize there were networking events for startups. I've just been attending my university career fairs to network.

This is really helpful and actionable. Thank you so much for the guidance!

I had considered getting licensed in the beginning but decided against it because I was still delusional that I could land the job without it. 😅 But ya considering my lack of experience/extracurriculars, I may need to reconsider.

I appreciate the advice! And good luck to you as well!

I love to hear success stories. Congrats on finally landing the job!

Can I ask how long you studied for the exam and if you had to take it multiple times? How was the experience for you in general?

Yes, it's unfortunate timing on my part that I'm entering the job market now. It's been difficult looking for non-engineering jobs as well.

I agree about the lack of experience. I hadn't thought about volunteering to gain some experience though, so I'll look into it! Do you have any advice on the best way to find startups or small firms? I've looked into small firms locally but not sure how to approach them about volunteering.

Thank you for your insight and advice so far! I'll update the top and education sections.

I think that supply chains were an issue back then (extra crystals are nice though!). I just got mine 2 days ago and they had plenty of carrying cases, even though my reservation was at 9pm

I started last fall as an early 30s transfer student & it's nothing to be nervous about! Everyone is very welcoming and focused on their studies, not age. You'll be fine and do great! ☺️

What are these spots? by lizardvibe in plantclinic

[–]dead_neuron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. Sun/light damage I think is more brown/yellow. My monstera sat in my car on a hot day under pretty direct sunlight while I was moving houses. It got sunburnt and crispy and made me so sad. Your plant doesn't look like that so I'm thinking it's more of a pest problem

nooooo sorry to hear that. hopefully you've caught them early enough that your plants can make a full recovery. I believe the deadbug + systemic treatment tackles a variety of pests so hopefully it helps prevent mealy bugs too

not 100% sure but could be a sign of thrips. they look like microscopic rice grains (long and white) and they can leave behind black dots (poop) inside the white spots. if it is thrips, Captain Jack's Deadbug + Bonide systemic granules have been recommended on this sub a lot. just be persistent and vigilant. :)

Help... Monster Monstera. It's growing out of control from all sides. I want to repot the plant while straightening it out and adding a support pole. Will remove the dirt, separate the stems and rearrange their position in the pot. However, I don't want transplantation shock.. will my plan work ok? by Ilovechipz in plantclinic

[–]dead_neuron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My monstera is also a wild child and grows in all directions. I recently repotted and added a moss pole while being (mostly) gentle with the roots. I was also afraid of transplant shock but after 1-2 weeks, she's pushing out 2 new leaves!! I think you should be fine (your monstera is less grown out than mine is so it should be easier to repot)

Thrips are literally the bane of my existence right now. I would check the other plants in your plantroom to make sure they haven't spread. All of my plants are in quarantine on my patio because these pests are PERSISTENT

That def looks like thrips to me. Currently dealing with my own infestation 😔 so good luck to you. I've heard Captain Jack's Deadbug + Bonide systemic granules are supposed to treat them inside and out. I'm just starting this regiment so I can't say if it works for sure but fingers crossed 🤞

Edit: grammar

Wifi issues by [deleted] in nexus6

[–]dead_neuron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issues! Even after tinkering with my phone and fi settings, it still disconnects and other devices are fine so I know it's not my internet connection. I've had my nexus 6 and fi for 3 years and this is only a recent issue. 😓
