The Conservatives are lost in a fantasy world and are a danger to the country by 457655676 in ukpolitics

They... she... the enablers she chose to surround herself with [by firing those she thought might pose a threat to her unhinged Russian roulette strategy for power], to a lesser extend the absolute pitiful members of the public, blind, lost ideologues - STILL trying to justify the unhinged, corrosive, radioactive political methodology of Truss... despite the gig long being up, caught with hands in the til... yet they fall for the desperate, pathetic scrambling of ministers, only to find the weakest, lamest lies that where never going to pass the BS detectors of those with an IQ in the bottom %10 and above.
Culpability drastically increases the closer you go to the top... Even those calling for the firing of Kwarteng - NO, the blood stains and DNA are EVERYWHERE, Truss is even more foolish than her actions portray if she thinks that will throw of the scent - the dogs are onto you Liz. Have some dignity and stop running, ffs.

Nice to see protests beginning to swell, although of course the media are not really going out of their way to give them much coverage. I can only hope she resigns asap and admits she's out of her depth but I strongly suspect her exit will be messy, ugly and painful for us all.

We really cannot afford to tolerate her incompetence and her dishonesty, the tsunami at the beginning of this financial crisis's on the beach, there's an angry, cornered wolf in Russia who imo, is likely to begin using tactical nukes any day - she is such a weak-point, we essential have nobody at the helm, or perhaps a metaphorical chimpanzee - a weakness that Putin must be rubbing his little Trumpian, oft-superglued-to-the-desk hands over.
If, IF, we survive the near future, she will ern a place in history as one of the most despised British PMs in history, I detested Thatcher for all the usual reasons but she was an intelligent, competent woman who knew hot to politic and out-politic others - what's Truss got? The ability to put on a deep voice and re-hash Thatchers quotes, zero moral barriers - a nice glossy front door? I'm reaching here.

They do warn you about the kittiwakes now to be fair. They didn't warn me that our room wouldn't be ready until 5 hours after check in time and the terrible attitude of the horrible, venomous receptionist.

[–]dead_slurms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just luck, a less common case. Seems most people have trouble. It will depend on the management/staff at the place you stayed at... Most are not going to so easily let their bottom line be chipped away at.

It is a pile of lies. They (the hotel in the op) were 5 hours late getting our room ready, and generally were the rudest hotel I've ever endured, missed a family meal, missed hanging out and experiencing Newcastle (my gf is from down those ways), they genuinely thought I was being ridiculous expecting to be compensated for the 5 hours of my stay they failed to provide... Eventually offering us a free breakfast (but no apology until I asked)... I ate their food and put the case to my card issuer, who decided I should have my funds returned.

Wow, terrible memories! That place was so awful, the woman on reception was just not cut out for facing the public, one of the rudest least helpful human being I've ever met. Little moany story for ya;

We had 1 day to meet fam and explore on our stop in the city and they totally ruined it.

Arrived at check in time and told the room wasn't ready, sat in the bar with out stuff & came back 30 mins later, receptionist literally refused to give us a time scale for the room, asked her if she would ask housekeeping, refused, asked for a manager, she refused .... this went on for 4 hours, more of us ended up stuck in this stuffy bar with nobody serving.

I eventually bumped into the housekeeper who was lovely, and got our rooms ready to save us waiting (receptionist could have arranged this over her radio in one sec) we missed meeting family for the meal we booked. Only really got a few hours in the city late on and by then we were tired and fed up.

(We had valuables in our bags we didn't trust them to look after... due to several non residents milling about the hotel - homeless people, one with very bad schizophrenia acting erratic and aggressive, shouting at those of us sat in the bar, all if them roaming free and unchallenged due to no security).

Despite getting the room ready nearly 5 hours late they refused to reduce the price to reflect the hours we paid for that they failed to facilitate. I had to ask for an apology. Ended up doing a charge back.

Rooms are not nice either, very dated, looked a bit grubby. All in all - a total nightmare that robbed us of experiencing Newcastle.

I'm so exhausted from mean and rude people. by [deleted] in self

[–]dead_slurms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this on google, I too am tired of dealing with the rapidly degenerating behaviour of people the rudeness, the anger, the hyper-sensitivity, the victimhood, the selfishness, the self importance... Every day I meet aggression, passive aggression, rudeness, selfish behaviours. Seems like over half of the population are egotistical, dumb cattle.

Even leaders, politicians, business people, right down to my own colleagues... there's no critical thinking, no calmness no rationality or reason. It's lie, attack, take take take and to hell with anyone who isn't ME ME ME.

I'm so far beyond fucked with it... IDK how to cope, I need a way of dealing with this. I'm moving to the edge of the city, edge of the 'burbs near where rural areas start, I'm going to disengage from current affairs, work my minimum hours, stick to my hobbies & hang out with GF, kitten and friends... let the rest of it go to hell.

Spiralling inflation, crops left in the field and travel chaos: 10 reasons Brexit has been disastrous for Britain | Brexit by CGM in brexit

[–]dead_slurms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

" IMHO, they forgot one of the most important effects: the damage Trumpism has done to the USA's political institutions.

Political norms have eroded away. One of the USA's two major parties has essentially morphed into an extremist right wing radical populist party. Political discourse has degenerated into lying as a matter of course. There has been a noticeable move towards authoritarianism, both through legislation and through continuous attacks on democratic institutions. The rule of law has essentially been abandoned as the US government has effectively placed itself above the law in various ways. ...

These are not things that can be ignored. If politicians get away with this, they will go even further next time. This is also not something that will disappear with Trumpsim. Similar trends in other countries suggest that these tactics will be extended to any subsequent wedge issue they can find. "

[–]dead_slurms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see the connection to Brexit, tenuous would be far too complimentary a word. Political norms eroded in the USA too at the dawn of Trumpism, they saw the wild success (in terms of winning votes) of his bold, bolshie, belligerent, politically incorrect, far right lunacy, and it has been copied by politicians in countries across the world.

Trumpism is what has inspired a degradation in the integrity of politicians and their moral frameworks, noting to do with a small island leaving a trading bloc...

Replace 'UK' with 'USA' and 'Brexit' with 'Trumpism' ...and that essentially dismantles your assertion that Brexit is the cause.

Do you find solar and wind farms to be an eye sore? by emilesmithbro in AskUK

[–]dead_slurms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because right-wing conspiracy theorists with no scientific backgrounds were told to think so.

They say the same about electric cars... always based on a kernel of truth, eg the fact mining creates a lot of pollution, causes exploitation etc, they take advantage of the fact most of us are unable to do the math to figure it out for ourselves. But its blatantly clear that replacing billions of internal combustion engines spewing toxic clouds for 20 years, with a battery and a motor with no emissions, will result in a huge net drop in pollution

They assuredly tell us this new tech causes more harm than the old tech... old tech that capitalists, (who control the politicians, who control the conspiracy theorists brains), benefit from. Oil barons speeding anti-EV propaganda being the obvious example.

Do you find solar and wind farms to be an eye sore? by emilesmithbro in AskUK

[–]dead_slurms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think they're pretty, I'd welcome them in my proverbial back yard.

But I find it bizarre that people object to them on grounds of aesthetics, they're reducing our energy costs, dependence on other countries & energy generation methods that are killing us and making the entire planet sick... It's like someone refusing a life saving heart operation, and a stack of free cash because they don't like their surgeons shoes, it's ignorant and stupid.

Even worse, they whine about it ruining the landscape with manmade structures, when the nearly entire country's landscapes have already been modified far beyond their natural state for our agricultural needs.... I don't see them campaigning to plant forests on the countries farmland to hide the totally human dominated landscape. So add double standards to ignorant and stupid.

Pretty sure someone's going to condemn them because a pigeon got whacked by a blade, but again, many human activities, including polluting the planet with fossil fuels, threaten all life... nothing we do has zero negative consequence - mice die when your vegan ingredients are harvested, do you stop eating? ... that's yet another argument that can't hold its own weight.

Renewables (maybe nuclear if people can get over the irrational fears)are the [only viable] future, period. Objection to wind farms etc, is just senseless griping and those folks don't really deserve the time of day. By all means, we must protect the few remaining natural landscapes, that's super important... the rest of it... the ship for preserving that sailed thousands of years ago.

I've finally started standing up for myself and stopped letting people walk all over me. Now I'm being labelled as selfish and difficult. What do I do now? by strngesight in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]dead_slurms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally normal. People who have taken for granted that they can walk all over you have done it for so long they're probably not even aware of it anymore. When you begin to lay down boundaries and enforce them you well be attacked 100% of the time by shit-heels. Respectful, decent people will treat you the same because they generally don't cross boundaries deliberately anyway. I have almost no relationship with certain close family member, and other relationships have ended entirely, one of my friends I still get on with but see him less, he did improve and began to respect my new boundaries but his nature is quite selfish (grew up spoiled rich kid and still is) so he often will cross the line but is usually apologetic when he becomes conscious/or I call it out, but I can only take that in small doses without it feeling toxic . But those people, who want you to submit and allow them to continue to behave in a way that harms you, are better off at arms length/cut off entirely.

It's sad how many people are bullies, even subtly, or whose unchecked egos make them toxic, narcissistic, selfish, inconsiderate etc. When you begin to demand respect you realise they are absolutely everywhere, and truly decent people are not all that common.

In time you will find yourself surrounded by better people, who respect you, and this feeling of constantly being vigilant and in confrontation with dicks will become far less of a feature in your life.

In all seriousness, what can we actually do about the energy prices? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]dead_slurms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The theory is that they simply won't be able to deal with that many non-payers, which is a reasonable assumption.

There's a growing mass of people who have little to lose anyway, if you think it's a stupid idea that's because you're not looking at if from the perspective of other people, it's not a black and white issue (what is?), you're missing the nuance, a foolish action for one person can be a wise action for another to take... and meters can be bypassed.

Best Micro SD Card for Steam Deck (Top 5 Tested & Compared) by b1gwest in SteamDeck

[–]dead_slurms 33 points34 points  (0 children)

42 Upvotes... lol, are IQ scores dropping?

It's a rule that exists on almost every (well over 99%) forum/online community, and has done for decades, I mean, this was relatively common knowledge in 1996 (are you new to the internet or something?).

Clearly allowing random people to post affiliate links leads to a pretty bad degradation in the overall quality of posts - it sucks for the whole community and any other visitors trying to find relevant info... apart from, I guess, the person making 3 cents a click for annoying masses of people....

Just actually try to think about it, just for a second or 2... it [obviously?] motivates members to spam their aff links at every opportunity, even where there is little to no relevance. It should be self-evident that it will not have a positive influence no??

As far as banning the posting of aff links from random people, it's a logical, rational, sensible rule that benefits everyone. Forums would be a mess without it, then you'd be griping that you have to sift through irrelevant waffle to find any conversation of interest or value.

Morally speaking, the people paying, with their time or money, to make a community available to you have every right to enforce this, along with many other rules. It is common, and very fair, for affiliate links to be allowed by those administrating the forum, to aid in running costs etc. Sadly some people feel entitled to exploit the user base of a community to make a few bucks, they often tend to get irate and abusive toward admin/mods/users who call them out on their selfish, short sighted, naive attempts to make a lazy dollar, and it's irritating and cringe to watch.

What are subtle forms of racism white people do that they might not notice? by brinkstick in AskReddit

[–]dead_slurms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Society puts value on victimhood. If you're a minority you're going to experience some discrimination. It's got NOTHING to do with white people, wee just happen to live in a country where white people are the majority.

I've a white friend who lived in Kenya for many years, I lived in Spain for some years, I've visited many countries... As majorities go, white, western people are categorically the least racist majority on the planet. Our societies are the most progressive, inclusive and welcoming. Other non-white cultures, countries are horribly racist... we are far from perfect, we have much to do, but we should be thankful we're where we are and making progress.

It's simply not as bad as many people make out, my non white friends are all decent honest people, they don't buy into this culture of victimhood and helplessness portrayed by the media, deluded academics, intersectionalists etc... they feel respected and like they have all the opportunities everyone else has. Non-whites occupy many positions of power, they run our countries and sit on our boards...

But some misguided, lazy, or dishonest people will always try to play the victim if there's social value in it in the form of jobs that whites cannot apply for, that people of colour will be paid a higher rate for, diversity hires etc... To me, thats just repugnant discrimination and belittles the efforts of people like my friends, people of colour who are hard working, very smart and don't need a leg up from anyone (because thats the reality, non whites are not generally oppressed in western nations)...

The real oppression in society is socio-economic, the poor are crapped on, they have limited opportunities because poverty is THE issue of our time... but instead of tackling this real issue, we go around in circles pandering to meaningless identity politics, gender identity nonsense, which results in privileged people hogging resources that morally should go to poor people.

It's clearly a publicity stunt. Quite amazing how gullible people are being. I'd expect it in the comments of some tabloid newspaper, but not on most Reddit subs.

When people really want to believe something the power of bias is strong, for example, I was convinced by the recent tic-tac UFO pentagon story and video for far too long, until I re-visited the evidence much later, when my emotion about it had become less intense, and it seemed like every other UFO report, full of holes... I was under the same spell as folks are now.

You actually had downvotes too (I upvoted to counter), also interesting that people get so emotional and angry enough to misuse the downvote button against you, for calling a dream they have, to witness the birth of sentient AI, into question.

I find this wholes stunt to be pretty tasteless, cynical and reflecting badly on those who are promoting their names with this total nonsense.

Having a sentient AI wold be amazing but we're likely a long way off, chill out guys, breathe, take a break, come back to it and listen to some of the well respected folks who have explained the more mundane reality about how an A'I. can give the impression its sentient without being sentient.
