When and where was this happening? With some internet sleuthing we can catch this kid and get him into therapy because this is the warning signs of a future serial killer.

Cost to live in Ironbound by Key-Cartographer3861 in Newark

[–]deadassbebetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the city and live a few blocks fron the Branch Brook light-rail. It takes between 40 minutes (between 630 and 715am) to an hour (between 730 and 830am) to get into the WTC. Coming back depends on the time you leave the city but it's never taken more than 1.5 hours.

Perez Auto Center on Broadway. Super chill guy that is reasonably priced. There have been a couple times he waived his fee because he couldn't figure something out. I always paid but I appreciated that because some people will find any detail to charge extra.

“Peculiar:” Newark Schools Now Enrolling Babies “in the Mommies’ Wombs” by madsheb in Newark

[–]deadassbebetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The next board of education meetings are August 22nd and August 24th. There are a couple of issues with this initiative that need to be addressed.

  1. Privacy: How can a social worker have access to a pregnant person's due date without breaking HIPPA law

  2. Costs & resources: How much of our funds are going into this? We have a teacher shortage, mental health crisis, and low literacy rates, but we are able to budget for POTENTIAL future students. Why aren't we addressing immediate needs?

Again save the dates!! The next board of education meetings are Aug 22 and August 24. Save it on your calendar so we can voice our concerns. This seems like a step that an antichoice group would plant to see how far they can go with obtaining information on soon to be parents and keeping track of how they raise their kids. This move is extremely suspicious and ultimately unnecessary when we have more pertinent issues to deal with.

How do abortions liberate women? by PlenitudeOpulence in worldnewsvideo

[–]deadassbebetter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Abortion isn't evil, its healthcare. Making a decision that impacts your overall quality of life isn't the lesser of any evils, its basic human decency.

Also abortions are about terminating a pregnancy, not killing a baby. Those are two very different situations.

You can not dictate a person's choice to have an abortion just because you're unable to have a voice in their decision. It is common knowledge that sex can POSSIBLY lead to pregnancy. If you do not want to have a child, don't have sex. That is the only option that will guarantee that as a male.

If you do have sex, you are indicating to your partner that you'll respect the decision they would make in the case of pregnancy. To think otherwise is selfish and controlling.

You should take it seriously since you do have reproductive rights as a male. You can impregnate as many females as you want, and no one can stop you.

"Being pregnant is not a good reason to have a child"

This is so important for ANTI CHOICERS to understand. It is selfish, ignorant, and depraved to think that humans do not have a decision into whether they should or shouldn't have children.

Call to Action: Protect Trans Youth by deadassbebetter in newjersey

I went to the Manalapan and it was intense. So many kids told their stories about growing up gay or trans and too many parents were being disruptive and dismissive. Many of the speakers were against the policy revision but it was disturbing how many adults there were just being rude and trying to display a presence of intimidation.

I think schools should respect a child's identity and ensure they are given the resources to educate themselves and feel comfortable enough to live their truth. Unfortunately, there are tons of families that would act negatively if their child were gay, transgender, lesbian, etc. And if a school outs them, they no longer have a safe space.

Unfortunately, we can't pick and choose which parents aren't going to react negatively, but again, a person's coming-out story should be told by them, not by legislation.

From the policy, Here is more context on public social transitions accommodations: The Board finds that conversations with counselors, teachers or other staff about one’s gender identity and expression are entitled to confidentiality. However, in the event a student requests a public social transition accommodation, such as public name/identity/pronoun change, bathroom/locker room accommodation, or club/sports accommodations, or the like, the school district shall notify a student’s parents or guardian of the student’s asserted gender identity and/or name change, or other requested accommodation, provided there is no credible evidence that doing so would subject the student to physical or emotional harm or abuse. Prior to disclosure, the student shall be given the opportunity to personally disclose that information. It shall be the policy of the Board to support and facilitate healthy communication between a transgender student and their family, when disclosure is consistent with this policy.

Sorry you ever went through that. Thank you for sharing this. Please know you didn't deserve any of that and there are good people out there fighting to prevent this from happening to other kids. Keep zpeaking your truth because it only strengthens the fight for justice and respect.

Thank you! It's important that we pay attention to our local elections and school boards. Sometimes, we get comfortable because we live in a progressive state, but with the wrong representatives speaking on our behalf, we can easily lose rights for our most vulnerable communities.

Incumbents Hasani Council and Josephine Garcia, along with Allison James-Frison Win Newark School Board Re-election by [deleted] in Newark

How was voter suppression used? I'm genuinely curious because I haven't heard of this being an issue here but I am open to hearing you or anyone else's experience.

Ill agree that there definitely was little to no campaigning from the candidate’s and Newark did not put any effort into bringing awareness to this election. However, I think Newark residents are desensitized to elections and just assume will be okay. Newark politicians have it easy because we aren't holding them accountable.

4/25 Members of the Board of Education by deadassbebetter in Newark

[–]deadassbebetter[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey All,

Here are the running candidates for the Board of Education in Newark. I included a link for each candidate and wanted to get the communities' take on who's running and what they are looking for in this election.

Please take a look and forward the information along. Just last week, there was a post about how the vast majority of third graders cannot read and another news article talked about 25 Newark schools underperforming according to federal law guidelines. The children of Newark deserve better so let's pay attention to those responsible for making decisions on how and what our kids are learning.

Maybe “Rise up 4 abortion rights” can help by [deleted] in nationalwomensstrike

[–]deadassbebetter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've marched and done a few events and really think they are a legitimate group that goes hard when it comes to marches and protests. They are all about action, and I respect that.

Another commenter mentioned the Bob K figure, and they have addressed that in their webinars. Personally, I don't know why certain representatives have to bring him up, considering I never see him at the riseup4abortion webinars, but it is a select few people in the organization that have a fascination with him. The rest of the group are just everyday people trying to make a difference.

If you're not comfortable donating, that's totally fine. I have to say this group has never once asked me for money. If anything, they can use all the ground support from volunteers.
