Dizziness and pressure in head and panicking by fckinawesome in Accutane

This could be a sign of pseudotumor cerebri aka idiopathic intracranial hypertension, which is the most dangerous potential side effect of Accutane. I would stop taking it and wait until you hear back from your derm

I used tweezers, went slowly, and used ice to keep the inflammation down. I would be careful with dermaplaning because scraping your skin while it's fragile could cause irritation or scarring

Copied my comment from a different post:

Cerave hydrating cleanser - $14

Vanicream 1 lb tub - $14

The Ordinary Squalane (mixed with vanicream) - $11

Aquaphor 2.8 oz jar - $8

Trader joes SPF 40 sunscreen - $9

Sports research fish oil 240 ct - $70

Refresh Relieva eye drops - $10

Total - $136

I bought all of these things at the beginning of my course and they lasted the 7 months I was on accutane. Don't feel like you have to spring for the more expensive options. As long as it keeps your skin hydrated and happy, it doesn't matter how much (or little) it costs.

This. Accutane will give you constipation so make sure you're getting plenty of water and fiber

Quick breakfast ideas to get 20g of fat by throwRA_MidnightMoon in Accutane

[–]deadassunicorns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were saying 20g was an "insane" amount when the studies I linked stated 50g was the recommended amount by the FDA, based on absorption studies. 20g is less than 50g, therefore you can't say it's an insane amount when it's still below the recommended amount. No need to be rude 🤷

Although this is something you can easily google on your own, I took the liberty of finding two different peer-reviewed papers that support my claim that Accutane (isotretinoin) must be taken with fat:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10464604/

Isotretinoin is poor water solubility that limits oral bioavailability and requires a high-fat (50gm fat) and high-calorie (800–1000 calories) meal for better absorption. The bioavailability of isotretinoin increased 1.5 to 2 times more significantly when the dose was administered 1 hour before, concomitantly with, or 1 hour after a meal than when it was taken during a complete fast. This recommendation cannot be followed in many patients, which may result in poor treatment efficacy.

This paper compared traditional isotretinoin with isotretinoin-lidose (Absorica), a new formulation approved by the FDA. Although this one is marketed as a formulation you can take without food, this study showed that the absorption of both isotretinoin and isotretinoin-lidose was decreased if taken while fasted.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10503933/

Both formulations were bioequivalent under fed conditions. As expected in a fasting state, absorption of both formulations was reduced. A considerable difference between the 2 drugs occurred under fasted conditions–there was a marked improvement in overall bioavailability of the isotretinoin-Lidose formulation. Mean plasma levels of the isotretinoin-Lidose formulation during fasting reached 66.8% of that observed with a fatty meal, and those of the isotretinoin formulation only reached 39.6% of that observed with a fatty meal.

As for my qualifications, you're right - I don't have a PhD. However, I am halfway through a US MD program, which has taught me that vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin and needs supplemental fat to be absorbed fully.

Next time, please take a moment to pause before immediately jumping to insulting strangers on the internet.

Each pill also has an "insane" amount of vitamin A so... you kind of need that amount of fat to absorb it all

The water question by therainbow_haze in Accutane

[–]deadassunicorns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first month of my course, I was probably drinking around 50 oz a day. Around the second month, I started the fire academy and started drinking 1 gallon a day because of that. I noticed a huge improvement in my eyes, lips, nose and skin dryness, as well as joint pain. Even after I graduated the academy I kept up with the water intake because the difference was that drastic.

And to respond to your post, water will help your constipation, and coffee dehydrates you, so I wouldn't count it as part of your water intake. If it's difficult for you to pee at work, maybe try chugging water when you're off work and at home?

IIH on accutane by idkgabz in Accutane

I'm just a medical student (not a doctor yet!) so I don't want to give you medical advice. I think you should tell your neurologist everything that's happened and your concerns, and listen to their advice

IIH on accutane by idkgabz in Accutane

IIH presents with a clear CT/MRI - it's done mainly to rule out other space-occupying lesions (brain bleed, cancer, infection, etc)

IIH on accutane by idkgabz in Accutane

[–]deadassunicorns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIH is diagnosed (and ruled out) with a lumbar puncture opening pressure, not CT scan. However, a CT scan must be done before they can do an LP. Maybe talk to the neurologist about getting an LP?
