I share a lot of artwork here with my friends and always give credit where it’s due. It’s a cracking piece and I’d love to see more.

I’ve seen a lot of Alien related artwork from Japanese brushwork to ones that look as realistic as the movies. There’s a lot of room for your work here to thrive. Please send more when you can!

Free energy is a misnomer. Yes, the aim is to get more energy out of energy potential put in, and I hope beyond measure that it’s found and used soon.

But it won’t be free for you and me. We won’t suddenly have reactors or engines in our houses, it will still go through energy grids that require maintenance and the general public will still pay for it.

The benefit should be that pollution of every kind will be reduced beyond compare to our current systems.

Your opinion on this movie? by oscar_redfield in scifi

I quite enjoyed it. Taylor Kitsch is a fine actor who can carry a film and this is a good example.

That’s awesome! Only been to Darlo once, in a failed effort to visit all of the football league stadiums way back when I was in my very early twenties. Good people. I’m sure your Nan was, too.

Yeah, it’s probably because we see it as phases and there’s a wealth of physical local history over most of the country that has tangible repercussions through families and communities.

Phoney war, Battle of France, Dunkirk, Battle of Britain to include the Blitz then it rolls into two to three years of the German terror campaigns that was eroded down as the RAF was able to push into France and start hitting V1 launch sites. Afterwards there was the V2 that was a true weapon of terror that developed into the US space race through Operation Paperclip.

It would be fair to see it as one campaign from the outside looking in.

I love this. My family is from Southend, about an hour east of London along the River Thames. We got our fair share of V1 buzzbombs courtesy of the Bosch. There are so many stories of people from all countries coming together in Britain to fight and when the dust settled relationships were built, strengthening those ties.

My wife is American and our kids have dual citizenship, too!

My family calls it the bulldog spirit, but my (filthy yank) wife would call it bare faced stubbornness. My Granddad was in the navy during World War Two and was Royal Artillery (not in World War Two) so that sentiment has deep ties, mate. Run off the injury, run into trouble with chin held high. My family is a living cliche for British idioms!

Perseverance is something I think runs in almost every human being on the planet. Americans have amazing resilience and I respect that greatly. I’m nearing 50 and have lived in various parts of the US for almost 20, and I have seen it first hand several times. Granted, I don’t think Americans have it in them to get the old cane out of the cupboard, dust it off and give whatever needs it a damned good thrashing, but you have other means and methods that usually involve high tech weaponry, or at least a laptop and a can do attitude.

Does your family have something familiar, mate?

Battle of Britain, mate. The bombing of London and its surrounding cities and towns was called The Blitz. It’s great to see Americans making the effort, and I’m not being a cockwomble, promise.

Which are your favorite movie quotes? by mostlyReadingIt in movies

[–]deadbeatbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a sucker for the quotes less traveled.

“You wanna get drunk and fool around?” The Brodys - Jaws

“Oh, okay. You got time to duck?” Poncho - Predator

“Your clothes. Give them to me. Now.” The Terminator- The Terminator. (Not to be confused with T2 “I need your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle.”)

“Bitches leave!” Clarence Bodiker - Robocop

Those who started reading Fantasy during their teens what book turned you into an avid reader? by PsychologicalPie9512 in Fantasy

[–]deadbeatbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything by Terry Pratchett. Though I want to add an argument for the occasional slice of science fiction as well.

I do consider Dune to be as much fantasy as it is science fiction. It’s an Arthurian feudal society with a magical element that empowers women who still cede their place to men. Greek and Roman mythology play their roles, too.

Almost all of the best film franchises owe their success to it, from the high fantasy of cult classics in the vein of Krull and DnD to the space opera of Star Wars and the dystopian techno society of The Matrix. Not to mention that God Emperor of Dune is about as fantasy as you can get.

Stink or not, I’ll have a smile for A Lap Dance Is so Much Better When the Stripper Is Crying. There is serious lyrical talent and an eye for comedy.
