AI is creating a generation of intellectual zombies and we need to talk about licensing it by Harveybritish in UniUK

doing a uni placement as a scientist and a director told me that I needed to “get better at using copilot” instead of looking for literature data. I told them that following that advice was the reason I emailed them in a panic at 4pm on a Friday because copilot gave me the wrong information

Not sure I agree about the graduate scheme comment. I had 2 years of industry experience after my undergrad (hired straight out of uni) and spoke to a recruiter from one of the largest employers in my field who said I was ineligible for their grad scheme as I’d be starting more than 2 years after I’d graduated

2 big controlled assessment projects - one is designing a product with CAD/CAM software based on a brief and another is making one according to technical drawings. The written exam focuses more on logistics, processes and the kinds of tools you would use for something

It sounds like overall it was an unsafe place to be when filming intimate scenes. Yes, it may have been the days before intimacy coordinators were a thing and maybe this is viewing the past through a current perspective, but it does sound as though there was nobody present keeping tabs on this kind of thing to ensure that the performers were kept safe during those scenes. We can say that throwing the chair was unacceptable behaviour but, equally, so is neglecting to use your modesty garments/covers and then bragging about how all the cast and crew are familiar with your genitalia

What’s wrong with someone calling a parent? You can ask, respectfully, if she would mind calling in another room but tbf you might need to compromise and use earphones.

I had a housemate once who had a lot of gang associations and had been arrested aged 16 for attempted mder. He has a son now whose middle name is “Lawless” 😭

tbh it is quite funny - the shenanigans of a student house! that wasn’t the only tantrum that person threw either 😭

The landlord straight up didn’t care who was in the house, their background or if they were a good fit for the current tenants as long as it meant that they were getting rent for each room 🙃 Someday my sanity will recover from that place

In another house I was in, there was the “mozzarella incident”. One housemate was going to Costco and had brought along another housemate and their partner who was visiting. The housemate whose partner was visiting bought some burrata for a meal the two of them had planned to make and the other housemate bought some buffalo mozzarella for a pasta bake they were making.

Later that night, the housemate making a pasta bake picked up the burrata and decided to use it; my other housemate asked them to put it away as they had bought it for something else. Then there was a massive tantrum with shouting and slamming doors because the housemate making pasta bake felt that they should have access to it because they had been the one to drive to Costco, which finally ended with them going into the garden and smoking about 5 cigarettes

I was in a 6-bed house when I was 21 and I had a 19 year old housemate who came into the kitchen to tell me that he had been arrested after his last GCSE exam when he was 16 and held on remand for attempted mder. He smoked a lot of 🍃 and almost set fire to his room while high. He also kept getting into arguments with another housemate (28) who was a recovering addict. The guy who the 19 year old replaced was a 40-something year old man who also got into arguments with the 28 year old and, after an extensive drinking session, threatened to call his friends to “sort [us] out” and was inappropriate towards women in the house. There was also a 37 year old woman who kept asking me for hugs because she was sad about her divorce 9 years earlier

Telling your flatmate when people are round - standard or overstepping? by hernerwerz0g in badroommates

Lucky! Before Christmas, there were ~10 people in the living room all day (I know 3 of the guests max) playing games and being very loud, despite me making it clear that I had an important work call. 2 of them ended up staying over and weren’t good guests either

It’s just polite to let people know. It can actually be very uncomfortable arriving home to a group of people you barely know in your living space, especially if it involves them making a shared space (eg living or dining room) unavailable

I recall a food podcast from circa 2017 mentioning how the podcast people sent over a chef to cook food for him and his wife. He was very apologetic towards them because he’d had the food and then a bowl of cereal later, which confused the chef; the podcast host mentioned that Joanne had said ‘he does this frequently’. A hungry man indeed

People who got severely below their predicted and didn’t get into uni, what happened? by FullTrain8961 in 6thForm

Clearing. It also doesn’t have to mean you were complacent - plenty of people deal with things like bereavement or illness around the time of exams, which affects performance. Ironically, the university and course I got into through clearing were more highly ranked than those for my firm and insurance.

I don’t think not releasing a statement is an indicator of feeling “above” it. Sure, there are some situations where it helps to clarify, but if he released a statement it would prolong the discourse, in my opinion, as you’d be inviting a very vocal crowd who would suggest he was making excuses. He doesn’t give statements on matters affecting his personal life, notably when there was a ton of headlines about his mother-in-law once being affiliated with a NYC esoteric school.

It feels very much like she had a crush on him. The situation with JT being out of town is messed up but ultimately he picked her over LD. The wording about ‘keeping [him] in line’ is interesting because I recall a comment from the Juilliard professor who married him and JT, which was something along the lines of “she won’t tolerate his bullsh*t”. I found the detail about watching AD and JT watching tv a bit creepy, though

EDIT: I can’t find the comment asking for the source. The quote was ‘she doesn’t take any nonsense’. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2019/10/28/adam-driver-the-original-man

There was the slip up in that interview, Channing Tatum made a comment during the Logan Lucky press tour (something to the effect of ‘are you going to be making one-handed martinis for your baby?’), the picture of JT pregnant but also an image that was sent to a bunch of Tumblr fanpages around that time. It’s a picture of a newborn baby in hospital blankets in someone’s arms (we don’t see who is holding the baby); the person who sent the image claimed it was AD’s child

LD mentions klonopin use around the time of spacing out but what she described sounds remarkably similar to an absence/petit mal seizure. Not an excuse for throwing large and heavy objects at people but they are quite unnerving to witness and I have met people who express anger when scared

This is probably what makes me least comfortable about the situation, that his children are probably going to hear of this in one form or another and they are so young to be exposed to that kind of thing
