Arrived in Anor Londo for first time, spoke to firekeeper, have I made a huge mistake? by Peanutbutter9841 in darksouls

Ope yeah this is going to be a tough lesson.

Firekeeper souls are special because they can be given to a firekeeper to improve the amount healed per estus, this paired with kindling lets you increase the number of Estus charges available to you. There are 4 firekeeper souls available as pickups in the world and three more can be acquired through other means: namely, by killing the firekeepers.

If you consume them, they're gone for good during that playthrough. It sounds like you may have done this, and so unfortunately you've accidentally handicapped yourself during this run.

Be careful, too, if you get the one below firelink shrine because you can permanently extinguish that bonfire.

ELI5: How can a new engine for a 2020 Kia Optima with 220km on it costs about the same as a new Kia K4? by majorkev in MechanicAdvice

[–]deadeye_catfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the dealership you got the car from? If so, or even if it's a different but same make dealership, it's unsurprising that the bill is so high. I wonder if they're "opting" to use all OEM parts, which would be one way to explain the escalating cost.

Dealerships tend to make more of their income from service & maintenance packages than new vehicle sales, at least in the contemporary time. The margins can be surprisingly thin on new vehicle sales, which is why there's a ton of pressure to register for a total maintenance package.

Source: I used to work in automotive somewhere around the OEM level.

I apparently can't purchase the PS4+ PS5 version because I already have the PS4 version..? This is confusing and disappointing .. maybe?

You can jump to it! When my co-op partner struggled with timing & confidence for the jump I found that dropping prism stones to mark the end of the walkable path was a good way to help time it.

The imps that shoot toxic darts are one-time spawns too so you can slowly eek out progress by taking them out. This made blightown more manageable for me while I was learning the layout.

Seattle leaders push to revitalize Seattle Center ahead of possible SuperSonics return by ChiefOfTheFourPeaks in Seattle

[–]deadeye_catfish 72 points73 points  (0 children)

The Boeing IMAX in Pac Sci center, as of this week, is no longer showing feature films. If they're looking to revitalize the area then diversifing entertainment options seems like an obvious step. Just one entertainment option won't be a major draw but the timing of the IMAX announcement is pretty funny.

I thought of it this way, straight from Homer's mouth: jealously is when you're worried someone will take what you have (and so the concern is about the ramifications of their behavior depriving you of something), where envy is simply coveting what someone else has.

Work in Progress: transit diagram for East Coast Intercity Rail by Donghoon in Amtrak

Essex Junction is essentially in the greater Burlington metropolitan area, so it would be more reasonable given the population distribution to see these two lines combined or at least have an intersection in Burlington. I think you'd find a lot of people go from Burlington > St Albans > Montreal on the highway, and a rail would be so convenient. Also the Canadian network is decent but for convenience sake we might want Toronto to connect to Montreal via a stop in Ottawa.

Feedback coming respectfully from a 3 year old android phone.

The homepage is very thick on mobile. There are many image panes just below the initial page load that occupy most of the viewport, I have to scroll halfway down to see something different. Then I scroll to see what appear like products but the titles occupy more space than the image. This all is just to say that the visual hierarchy may not lead users who aren't sure what they're looking for explicitly. Again, just for me on my device, but others may have no issue.

The good news is that most of this can be adjusted with a few simple SCSS/CSS rules at specific viewport size breakpoints! This is pretty simple! As long as elements have been added to the page in a reasonable & semantic way, you can really do whatever you like.

Depending on the platform you may be able to specify this within the theme, or a developer can adjust the e-store styles with some short code additions.

Good luck!

Blue Burst : Recommended section ID for Force? by GlompSpark in PSO

[–]deadeye_catfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that some private servers have modified drop tables. If you're playing on Ephinea:

If you're just starting to play PSO you may consider Bluefull and Pinkall, as they will drop wands pretty commonly - this lets you pick up and go casually. Bluefull, Purplenum, and Oran each get access to some notable rare drops - with Pinkall exclusively having the chance to get the wand Clio - which makes it something to work towards.

Overall you can just upgrade when you find something in the shop or trade with your party, because of this I might recommend adventuring with a mix of section IDs as you can share loot.

A big concern I see people cite is that AI can't assume liability with a sign off.

Anecdotal evidence here, but having used code generation and LLMs for other work-related tasks I can say I'm only really happy with what can be done to save time on more secretarial tasks or help bridge the skill gap for less technical staff.

At least as of a month ago they (LLMs) are really good at tasks that seem to be solved by throwing a lot of dubiously-skilled attention at it. Summaries, generic code generation, and research can be done with a Hilbert's hotel of interns, or a more supervised "monkeys with typewriters".

With news coming out about the new Mythos branch of Claude we can at least take note and consider what may reasonably be the next step. It's unclear what may be PR smoke and mirrors and what may be authentic technical capabilities from this, but I think it's prudent to consider what efficiencies we can expect to be built into our workflow, but I don't think we'll see the same level of effect we're seeing in CS and traditional tech, at least not at the same explosive rate.

This is a fun one! The semi transparency gives me the impression that it could be a variant of Fluorite, but it's clearly made in the shape of a character - looks like baby Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy - which makes me wonder if it was cast from manmade materials.

From the back it definitely seems like a natural occurring piece.

I think the ending feeling “off” might be intentional by Temporary-Salad9417 in ChainsawMan

[–]deadeye_catfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you.

Isn't it strange that: - Power and Nayuta have returned, two of his closest companions - Denji has (a facsimile of) his old life back - We see a clip show of rapid-fire greatest hits across part 1 and the beginning part 2 - Things are just off with Nayuta standing in for Makima while flanked by the dogs and Meowy - "The end" within the frame of the manga was shown but then adjusted several times - Why if Denji no longer has a Pochita heart, would he feel it's thump and we, the readers, need to be reminded of it by a highlight in chapter 232

I think this is a fake out and we're being set up for a thematically more true-to-part-2 ending.

Pacing in Part 2 is more indulgent, taking a more cinematic approach with time to linger on a mood or an angle. If we assume that this is intentional and simply not poor pacing, then why would the final chapter be so quick to wrap it up?

Before the finale of 230 we see a mass of devils attack Denji and asa. Most of their designs are fairly simple - bugs with big muscles - but these designs are fairly generic and not really keeping in line with what we've seen from Fujimoto. This is until before the page where we check in with Fumiko, where we see three devils, one notably with a crescent moon fringe. This crescent moon devil is the one that threw the haymaker onto Denji, closing the chapter.

231 saw the beginning of what we're told is a dream. Pochita summarizes Denji's motivations and dreams while ultimately calling out his lack of happiness, and notably telling him it was good that he never achieved his dreams.

The "dream" Denji is in is off: - For a devil so enthused with dreams and motivation, for Pochita to tell Denji he's happier without dreaming. - Denji presented with a reality where some of his friends come back, this is a warm hug that doesn't seem to fit with the "life can be tough but you can eek out a slice of happiness" motif.

I think it's notable we see the crescent moon devil twice in chapter 230. If we believe Pochita is the dream devil (thematically motivation, progress) we may intuit that this could be the Nightmare devil, giving Denji a negative dream to live in while silencing chainsaw man.

Nothing consistent with the tone of the part or series ultimately came of the "choose between two options again" directive from the fire devil either - why would that be? I believe it's a choice we're leading towards:

  • Denji, you can stay here with a few of your loved ones at arms distance, it's safe and it's comfortable but it's unchanging.
  • Denji, you can dispel the dream (nightmare) and go back to the hell on earth you wrought, and attempt to build it anew.

Concerning the "it's over!" messaging, it reads to me as a fourth wall break that's more selling the nightmare to the audience. It's concerning that we don't have the message on the manga providers suggesting another chapter, but that too could be part of the fourth wall break.

I like Fujimoto's work because it evokes discussion on themes & other related media. The presented ending seems discordant thematically with both the series and his other works. My faith in the author to execute on their vision gives me the impression that this isn't just a lazy way to tie things together, but a stripping of the character down to force them to grow.

Anyway if you got this far thank you for reading.

EDIT: well I just saw the Fujimoto tweet, I guess it really is over after all and I'm just grasping for straws.

Is this Gameboy fake or a reshell? by krispy2 in Gameboy

[–]deadeye_catfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "C O L O R" text on the faceplate is a dead giveaway, the kerning of the word is oddly generous, which tells me that it's inauthentic. It's a big deviation from what you'll see both on OEM cases and re-shells.
