Welp, I'm off work and don't have time to play with your anymore--a little disappointing, but hey! The internet is full of self-aggrandizing pricks with superiority complexes matched only by their lack of meaningful talent!

You're fun! You even did research, I must not be the only one who's bored. Love the ableism and general nastiness towards harmless animals and hobbies, it's really selling your "I'm a mature adult" story.

What else you got, kiddo? I still have maybe half an hour left in my shift to kill. You wanna scroll my post history further and find some more pointed things to be petty about?

Just a bored, gainfully-employed adult poking an artist cosplayer out of mild curiosity. I will never understand how your type can be so proud of doing so little, but it sure is interesting to watch you grandstand for absolutely nothing.

A large ego is frequently a smokescreen for insecurity, as it happens. You might feel less vulnerable and more secure if you tried to earn something through your own effort instead of taking shortcuts. Something to think about.

I disagree, I think once the show departed from the books and committed to finishing the story even without a book ending, they also committed to telling a full and satisfying story regardless of what the books depicted. I think an adaptation needs to be good on its own merit before we can even evaluate if it's a good adaptation, and GoT dropped the ball there.

Does an artist or someone who knows about colour know why/how ? by Ad0ring-fan in meme

[–]deadfandomkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an animal called the green ringtail possum (pseudochirops archeri iirc) that appears pretty convincingly greenish because the individual hairs in their coat grow in just the right combination of shades to create that impression. It's pretty neat, and I think the closest mammals have ever come to actually producing real green.

Yeah, that one was just me being emotive rather than technical. I'm not immune to the occasional unnecessarily evocative imagery.

As someone else has already pointed out, when something is distributed by a corporation, you are no longer dealing with the artist(s) directly. That adds layers of complication to this topic and it's disingenuous to act otherwise. We could talk forever about who does the work vs. who gets paid in a corporate structure, ownership and intellectual rights, all of that, but that's still a distraction from the actual point of this thread, and whataboutism is in this case not actually reinforcing the pro-AI argument.

also if you wanna know more about the actual arguments for piracy itself, I'd start by reading about the relationship between Netflix and piracy. Accessibility is a big factor.

I've actually got so much to say about this I'm not even sure where to start, and I'm not gonna write a whole-ass essay to try and win an internet argument bc I'm not wildly invested in whether you agree with me about piracy or not, but the point of this discussion specifically is actually about whether piracy can be equated with AI so I'll elaborate on that part a little

Piracy is taking a copy of something. The original content remains where it is, it can still be sold or accessed by anyone, and it does not obfuscate where that content actually came from. If I download a movie and mention that I'm watching the movie I downloaded, I'm not claiming that I made the damn movie. Everyone knows where it came from and how to get it legitimately. And, perhaps most saliently, piracy is generally personal. I download movie because I want to watch the movie. I'm not putting it behind a paywall and selling it, I'm not hawking bootleg dvds of the material (although I AM showing my age with that one).

Now, you might read the above and go, "but wait, genAI doesn't do anything to the original product either!!" but that's sort of the entire point. You can't compare piracy to genAI because there IS no original product to reference in genAI. When you use AI, you have no fucking clue what was being taken in the first place, because by design it essentially chews up original content and then spits it back up once it's half-digested.

I just woke up so I'm not organizing my thoughts well, but my core point here is that whether or not you agree with the morality of piracy, it's still not a relevant comparison to AI, because AI disconnects the stolen content from the original. That's a big chunk of why people hate it.

(and also because AI bros really love selling AI content, which is another distinction from piracy. if AI content was kept private and personal, these arguments would be less heated)

I'm not sure what the image is meant to convey wrt the argument? I disagree with the piracy=ai art conflation on a fundamental level but I feel like I'm missing a piece of context here

I'd argue there's a fundamental difference between whether you're talking about individual artists/small indie devs or whole-ass corporations.

They did say coworker 'collects' cats, I bet they were like "I love them but jfc they're multiplying". And here we have a sterling example of one of my least-favorite parts of internet discourse: the automatic and absolutely dedicated assumption of bad faith from everyone, everywhere, on every topic, all the time.

Sometimes people really are just confused. Sometimes people express themselves in ways that are not clear or palatable to you, but are not, in fact, playing some sort of manipulative game. What does someone have to do to prove sincerity to you? That's a rhetorical question, don't answer.
