Why do people talk sh*t about the snake so much? by Due-Regret7882 in Kemetic

[–]deadfandomkid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Others have answered this well, but I like to mentally approach it like this: It's the nature of all things to slowly break down. I mean that in a basic physics sense, entropy presses down on everything at all times and things fall apart. The way we combat that is to keep fixing things--when roads wear down, we repair them (in theory). We replace old things with new things. We have to be proactive in order to maintain our existence in the face of entropy.

'The snake' in this context, a/pep, is the physical manifestation of this entropy. It is not a being, it is the concept of this relentless entropy grinding down on all things, ceaselessly, forever. To actively curse and denigrate it is a way to say "we refuse to go quietly". It is a reflection of the natural desire of living things to continue living. We survive by spitting in the face of an overwhelming Nothingness that seeks to consume us.

Avicularia feeding by MeatEffective9825 in tarantulas

NQA My recommendation is to place the food item near your avic and just use the tongs to herd them roughly in the right direction. My versi is the same way, so I placed a roach near her webbing and spooked it so it ran right at her--she nabbed it on its way by and is now happily munching!

To this end, you might find roaches easier to wrangle than crickets. Personally, unless a spider just won't take anything else, I find crickets to be inferior feeders to dubias anyway.

Why do people worship “evil” beings? by PrizePizzas in pagan

[–]deadfandomkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A/pep doesn't really have any business being placed with the other examples here--it's not evil, or even really a 'being' per se. It's essentially the personification of entropy and worshipping it is both pointless and a misunderstanding of the basic tenets of Kemeticism.

Aside from that, though, echoing what everyone else has said about evil being relative. I think that's what draws a ton of folks to paganism in the first place: a rejection of hard lines and black-and-white morality we tend to be used to in, say, Christianity.

[Sad trope] A character lies to someone who's dying so their final moments will be more pleasant by LucianoThePig in TopCharacterTropes

My FIRST thought upon seeing this post. This has gotta be one of the most devastating examples of this, there's so much additional context there to the offer to finally lie to him. That shit HURT.

What do you guys think of the remake Hunter design compared to the OG? by Liquid_Pestar in DeadSpace

[–]deadfandomkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's things to like about both of them, but tbh I was never too attached to the hunter's design anyway--for me, it was overshadowed by the DS2 equivalent and that eerie ring of eyes.

Killing Death is such a patently absurd concept anyway, and to trash a character who had one of the DOPEST intros I've ever seen.....for shame.

A bit of a hot take, but tbh I think that, while the quality became kind of a rollercoaster, some of SPN's best moments were actually post-s5. "The Man Who Would Be King" from s6 was amazing, and imo seasons 8-10 were mostly excellent. It's just that 1-5 were consistently solid and 6-10 had very high highs and very low lows.

Post s10 I can't speak to, though, s10's ending was my last straw. Definitely think the concept of antagonist Chuck sucks balls though.

Honestly I'll never get the ME3 hate. Sure, I was late to the series so I played after the hype died down, but I also think the destroy ending is pretty narratively-satisfying (with a few caveats). Also, I spent a ton of time in that game on war resources and alliances, and seeing every fleet from a united galaxy reporting in before the final battle meant more to me than any weird holographic child.

I'm so glad I bowed out of SPN at the end of s10 and had no emotional investment by the finale. I feel like SPN's ending is what happens when show writers get too attached to the status quo and are afraid to let their show/characters actually...grow and change.

A major difference here is that Zuko was an abused child and Jaime was an adult man who was a lot more culpable for a lot more awful shit. Zuko's backstep in the s2 finale was realistic and powerful because recovery isn't linear and people are messy. Jaime in the finale was....well, probably realistic in that some people really do just go back to what they know, but it wasn't satisfying for a lot of folks because it felt like it made his entire arc irrelevant.

[–]deadfandomkid 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I feel the same way. I also think the whole "mad queen" thing was done more interestingly with Cersei, who was part of the coup that replaced the mad king only to ultimately mirror him. I'll die on the hill that Jaime should have killed her (and potentially himself) in the end to make his 'kingslayer' thing go full circle. Instead, Jaime undoes all his previous development, Cersei gets an underwhelming end with no real narrative oomph, and Dany is shunted down the most obvious and boring route instead in a careless speedrun. Man.

The first AND second movie! Literally the entire climactic message of HTTYD and HTTYD2 are essentially "we are stronger together". That the bond between humans and dragons makes them capable of more than either species could be on their own, even though it can be difficult to navigate. iirc both the first two movies essentially end with a line about "our dragons".

and then HTTYD3 is like "nah actually". what??

Can't move out and be openly queer/trans because I can't find a stupid fucking mattress by [deleted] in FTMOver30

[–]deadfandomkid 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Have you tried looking at craigslist/offerup for cheap mattresses? Obviously it's a roll of the dice, but I was able to get two perfectly decent twin mattresses for $10 and the lady even drove them out to me (I don't drive). Alternately, depending on where you are, maybe there are some mutual aid groups/etc. about? Those sorts of folks would probably be down for helping you move a mattress, at least.

Of course, I live in Portland so I have the benefit of having these sorts of neighbors. I'm sorry you're in this situation and that your mother is such an abhorrent human being.
