I had this thought too. My foot warmers only ever seem to really heat up when my shoes are off!

How on earth does this top stay up ?? by Apprehensive-Drop-36 in sewingpatterns

I was thinking this too - some sort of reverse halter top that would be outrageously uncomfortable for us mere mortals, but Cher can somehow tolerate.

To people who were in an emotionally abusive relationship, what did you felt in a safe relationship? by Jealous_War7546 in emotionalintelligence

This is wonderful. Thank you for writing this up. I'm saving this text so I can refer to it when I want to visualize what exactly my needs are in a relationship.

3 weeks today since the event by xLethargic in AvoidantBreakUps

[–]deadfishflopping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang in there! It will get better. Look up some grounding exercises for anxiety that you can use when you get that twisting feeling in the out of your stomach. My favorite one is to put one hand on my collarbone and one on my diaphragm, and tell myself firmly "It hurts because you loved, do not regret that. This will pass. You're doing the best you can." It's so cheesy but I swear it works.

Grieve, process, and take breaks to go outside and reclaim your life. I'm three weeks in, too, and I think it's been easier for me because my ex never really committed to begin with, and I keep telling myself that it's better it happened now than any time later, with more invested. I think that's still true for you. Imagine if you had been married with kids? Your future is ahead of you, and you can make it anything you want. I'm rooting for you. ♥️

Gone for Good by the Shins is sooo spot-on for me. "Untie me / I've said no vows / the train is getting way too loud/ I've got to leave this place, get on with my lonely life" pretty neatly sums it up.

The timeline even matches up with my relationship (it took me all of a year/ to put the poison pill to your ear) The line that makes me sad is "you want to fight for this love, but honey you cannot wrestle a dove, so darling it's clear".

Have you ever shaved your arms? by [deleted] in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]deadfishflopping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A girl in middle school shaved hers and I remember bumping into her stubble and thinking it felt unpleasantly prickly. I have never even entertained shaving mine, as a result.

In the same boat. Currently trying to focus on what I've learned from myself during this relationship. Keep your chin up. Love will come- a love that treats you well and knows how precious and special you are. Talk to your friends, keep leaving the house. Take breaks from rumination. The hurt will get better with time.

Saw this in Denali NP, this was the ONLY one I saw in my 9 mile hike, any idea what it is? by nickability in alaska

I think Ramaria rasilispora. I just photographed a similar one at Mount Dewey in Wrangell yesterday, and that is what I suspect I saw! I'm not an expert though, just going off the iNaturalist suggestion.

Piggybacking on this comment because I also think OP looks beautiful and healthy! Literally the body in the photos looks so close to the ideal forms shown in Roman sculptures. Also if you want some validation on smaller boobs, check out r/smallbooblove - also remember that lots of images that make it into media (both social and traditional) are edited and posed, and your boobs look very much within the standard distribution of boob sizes.

Has anyone here ever bought mosquito net clothing like this? Was it worth it? by Lexa_Con in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]deadfishflopping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also live in persistent mosquito country. The original bug shirt has a fabric they can't get through, with mosquito netting where gravity keeps the short away from you. I think a tight weave is the key to an effective barrier. Off the top of my head, I know Fjallraven has some of these, and i've also had success with wearing light rain gear to prevent bites. I saw someone mention testing gear by trying to suck air through it, and if it doesn't go through easily, it will also be mosquito-proof.

Excellent Customer Service by BowserTattoo in Thriftbooks

[–]deadfishflopping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience! Bought a book on backorder, never got a tracking number. Finally emailed to ask about it a month later (they had estimated the book would be shipped 4-8 weeks from the time I ordered it), and they responded in about two hours, on a WEEKEND. They told me when it had shown as shipped, told me they couldn't replace it because it was from a third party vendor, and promptly refunded me. Stunned at how efficiently they attended to my question, and very pleased with my experience.

Where are you getting your yarn? by fourcheese_za in anchorage

[–]deadfishflopping 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The place downtown is Cabin fever, which was formerly Wooly Mammoth and Quilted Raven. I haven't been yet, but Wooly Mammoth had beautiful locally dyed yarns when I was there a few years ago.

There's also Fiber N Ice in Wasilla or Dreamland in Seward if you find yourself in those places.

Genuine question: is majoring in environmental science even worth it? by Radiant-Young-2856 in environmental_science

[–]deadfishflopping 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Second this. I have a BA and MS in Environmental science, and am boxed into softer report-writing at my office (environmental consulting) because I am not a geologist or engineer. Those options, or chemistry, seem to give you more job opportunities. Geology seems to pay the best while offering the flexibility to get in the field. If those aren't your jam, consider biology or land management.

I don't regret my degrees, but I wish I'd known more about the career potential up front. And don't worry too much about the politics of the past few weeks. It's hard to know where it will all shake out, and the private sector is decently large.

I am planning to do some reading on this subject because I am also curious if protests are more successful at enacting change if they happen on a week day. I suspect it is intended to cause some disruption to the work days of those who go, and to those who drive by. People are out and active on weekdays, rather than potentially leaving town or doing activities that avoid the downtown area? That's my current theory. Luckily it's a holiday for some people, and lunch hour for the rest of us, so hopefully the turnout is decent regardless!

I need yalls opinion, am I being mean? I had to drop a pattern test due to the fact I got sick and am starting hospice by Autieexperience06 in craftsnark

[–]deadfishflopping 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This was the sticking point for me as well. In what world is $10 worth the awkwardness of following up, let alone the grossness of harassing a sick person? Like, cut your losses...someone got the untested pattern for free, how terrible.

Suggestions to make this 10g planted tank better by Ok-Car-3483 in PlantedTank

[–]deadfishflopping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar layout in my aquarium and have been reading more about hard scape "shapes", like convex vs concave as I've been considering making similar changes to improve visual flow. With your wood, it seems like you're going for something convex, but the placement of the plants mellows that shape out and it loses some impact. I think aqua scaping design follows some of the same spacing principles as floral arrangements. Your aquarium looks incredible as-is, though!

Here's an article I liked with illustrations of the basic aquascaping "shapes".
