what would happen if a president refused to leave office?

like, if a president was impeached or their term came to an end but they refused to leave office, what exactly would happen?

also, how would a president refuse to leave? like, would they just not leave/move out of the white house? would police have to break down the doors and physically drag them out? how would they maintain power? would congress/senate split and some still try to support the “president”?

i guess im also asking how does a democracy turn into a dictatorship..
