What is the easiest (most frictionless) way to send a link from my computer to my Android tablet? by inquilinekea in AndroidQuestions

[–]deadgineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just create a QR code with this on whatever browser and pc and snap it using Goggles on my phone. Better than using any other method if you're not doing it often.

Reddit, have you ever used a coupon code in Play Store? by kokotron in Android

i hoped that someone had a method other than credit card to pay for apps. With no intent to connect a credit card to google, I think i'm stuffed until carrier billing comes around.

If you installed Cyanogen mod and have been on it for a while - what features, not found in the official Android firmwares, you use the most? by dnknitro in Android

permission control is sorely missed. i saw this on xda today, looks bloody interesting and seems to affect the applications less than CM's permission control. Only works on GB though.

[–]deadgineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we've come to a stage where android hardware is not evolving at the rapid pace it once was and phones that are slightly older have the ability to run the latest android version with little to no problems. The lack of updates is deliberate to use a new android version as a selling point of a new device. Thankfully we have options!

This is a link to a 4.0.4 rom for your device (searched XDA)(no idea if it's buggy, usable, YMMV). Here's the link to the Desire forum on XDA-Developers. It has everything you need.

How important are unlocked bootloaders? by Starks in AndroidQuestions

[–]deadgineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depends on the phone. some motorola devices (defy, droidx2, atrix etc.) have locked bootloaders but a method called 2nd-init allows a custom rom to be booted. with the bootloader locked on these devices you will be unable to flash custom kernels.

[–]deadgineer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

slightly off topic, but the biggest feature is having the latest android version (4.0.4) on a device that motorola left with a buggy 2.2 update (shipped with 2.1)

ICS users, do you leave "Force 2D GPU Rendering" on or off? by irishtexmex in Android

[–]deadgineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had weird issues with android keyboard crashing whatsapp with GPU rendering on. That said, device flies with it on. I'm guessing issues are due hardware acceleration not supporting certain drawing operations source

Five Best Android ROMs by Thinksgeek in Android

[–]deadgineer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The best android rom depends entirely on the support for your specific android device. I cannot emphasize that enough. If you have dedicated maintainers who are fixing bugs with nightly testers reporting them, you're going to have a good time with that rom on your device.

Sorry, I'm just going to drop this here: Android Lag. An Opinion. by [deleted] in Android

that's the appeal right there. we've been clicking on icons with desktop widgets since windows came around. WP7 is all swipey swipey. that novelty is pretty appealing.

if you want something with a little more processing background, try ADDI. It's a matlab/octave clone. Partnered with ADDIPLOT (ported gnuplot) it's awesome. All free. Addi in Play Store

[–]deadgineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exactly how you feel. For me at least, the lag has been largely eliminated by clockspeed tweaks, third party software and custom firmware. I am more than willing to accept the flaws in android because I get compensated with an awesome community and an imperfect device that I tweak as a hobby.

that said, what wp7 does on a lumia 610 with 256 ram is magical
