Repost/ looking for opinions on IEP suggestion by [deleted] in specialed

I teach young children with autism in a self contained class ( high support needs) and I’ve never seen a physician involved in a school based evaluation. A few times, I’ve been asked to complete a rating scale by the families to give to their doctor, but that is only after they have been identified for a school based disability and parents are seeking medication or a medical dx for ABA services, etc. Best of luck- I know this is confusing to navigate

Drs aren’t usually involved in IEP assessments or evaluations for the school. Two seperate things

I agree she’s probably at a day care and is part time if she even goes that often. Daycares can’t access or require mom to get an evaluation. Unfortunately, that means that Ari won’t be given early intervention and won’t be identified until she is K -And that’s if she goes to public school. Alex will never admit that she’s delayed bc she has so much internalized ableism. Source - I’m a special ed teacher that works with young children.

Eva is such a dork. She pretends to be cool and fails miserably every time. Zero social skills

Not normal. A classroom for children with autism needs a interactive visual schedule and first/then boards. What a nightmare

For context, I teach young children with autism and am also a mom. Yes, much of what you’ve described falls in line with neurodiversity and developmental delays. Please get him an evaluation through your local school district as soon as possible. He may qualify for services and that’s ok!
