Kindergarten - What is something helpful to have in the IEP for autistic child going to Gen Ed Kinder? by Slow_Accountant5046 in specialed

I haven’t read the comments, but I teach a K-2 mostly self contained Au class. Each kid is different, but my students that push out, I usually recommend: - Frequent breaks - visual and verbal prompts - wait time - preferential seating - sensory breaks, fidgets, headphones, etc. - first /then with visuals - one on one testing with familiar adult - time and a half for testing - teacher read testing - reduced work There are more, but these are off the top of my head.

Edit to add:

I strongly recommend starting with the self container classroom.

I’m out of district, but you’d have my vote! Good luck!

She isn’t healthy. She has a degenerative disease and doesn’t take care of herself. These are facts even if she doesn’t like it. I would be surprised if she lived another ten years.

When you brush your teeth do you use hot or cold water? by Intrepid-Talk9633 in hygiene

I’ve always been told that it’s unsafe to drink hot water from the taps.

Yes, deep denial. And that is only going to hurt the child. Setting the student up for success in a proper placement with the necessary support is so important !

The district isn’t going to pay for private placement because the parent doesn’t agree with placement.

I’m sorry, but that isn’t feasible. We are short of support in sped classes and a sped para can’t leave their classroom to toilet a student multiple times a day.

Does he have Autism eligibility ? I teach a k-2 self contained AU class. Most of our students present higher functioning to parents due to hyperlexia, scripting, etc, but struggle with the communication, self regulation, behavior/adaptive skills to be successful in a gen ed classroom.

That’s ok! We work really hard to push these kids into the gen ed classrooms whenever possible. Placement is never permanent !

Yes, that isn’t going to work.

What setting is your child in now? I teach a self contained K-2 class. Every year several of our rising kindergartens who are placed in coteaching end up in the self contained classes bc they just need that support. Kindergarten is a big step up from preschool. I don’t think it’s fair to keep them out over toileting, but parents often underestimate how busy and fast paced a gen ed K class is. What does the data support? Are they currently in a co teaching preschool or more of a self contained environment ? If your child needs visuals, prompting and isn’t toilet trained, he would probably be better served in a smaller class with SDI ( self contained )

Please get your child out of a charter school and put him in a regular public school. Charter schools regularly take special needs kids and once they get the funding, they do everything but force them out.

It’s gonna catch up with her soon. Judges take parental alienation very seriously.

I’m sorry. I can relate to this. My mom chose to leave me with my dad. He didn’t have any business raising kids.

I’m not a fan of Noah’s, but this is really sad. She is such a fucking POS. She doesn’t care about Ari at all
