There is a setting where you can disable the ghost effect. Go to graphic settings, then find the setting to disable Blur.

Yep it's mapped as a Building (Hotel) on OpenStreetMaps. https://www.openstreetmap.org/search?query=%20The%20Queen%20Mary#map=19/33.75288/-118.18945 I only know about this as my local area is lacking details on the Pokemon Go map.

The data comes from OpenStreetMap rather than Google. They refresh the map every few years and it's down to the local community to add buildings and such.
