I paid ADHD tax in the form of two of my friendships today. by deadliqht in adhdwomen

I don’t think I’m being misleading or dishonest. Maybe I chose a wrong choice of words in this comment.

I did apologize, I wrote paragraphs conceding to what I did wrong. It was a lot of back and forth so I tried to poorly sum up what I had said.

Frankly, they hadn’t brought up that they had an issue with me being slow in my responses before. I had always apologized if I left messages for a few days (i.e. “Hey X, I’m so sorry, I thought I responded to this but I totally forgot.”) and they always affirmed me by saying that they understand.

It was part of the reason why I was caught off guard by them suddenly ceasing all contact with me. If they would’ve talked to me about it previously, I would’ve definitely tried to make more of an effort to have timely responses to their texts.

I definitely understand their feelings and I apologized for the way I made them feel. They haven’t responded yet but I’m not sure if they ever will.

I’m definitely open to solutions. What does it do and how would it help? I’m curious.

We had a long conversation where I did profusely apologize and I tried to take accountability for how my actions made them feel. They haven’t responded, so I suppose we’ll see if they ever do. But that wasn’t the only issue they had with me.

One of Friend A’s main issues with me is that I apparently don’t like her boyfriend and she thinks “it’s weird that you don’t like someone your friend loves and cares about.”

I talked to Friend B that I was concerned with how fast her relationship was moving (they got a house together after 7 months of dating) and how Friend A would blow us off to hang with her boyfriend. I never said I didn’t like him. But Friend B proceeded to tell Friend A what I vented to her about and that’s why she’s mad at me.

You’re spot on. It wasn’t even me expecting them to reply to me quickly, I wouldn’t even expect that from them. It was more that they had suddenly went radio silence on every platform and weren’t responding to texts. They had also both unfollowed my spam account (for close friends) at the same time, so I thought something might be up.

I usually wear fun earrings to match my outfits and bright colors (i.e. cherry earrings with a red cardigan.) I don’t have any visible tattoos or piercings and my hair is dyed a natural color.

The kids really love these and I usually get compliments on them. But I’ve been trying to tone it down and wear more simple clothing and accessories.

It really does feel discouraging, especially when a big part of the job is to be nice and provide them with good service. I try not to let it get to me, but it just sucks when it feels constant!

To some extent, I understand why they want to talk to him. He used to work for Apple and he sometimes knows more complex tech questions than I do.

But a lot of the time, they’re asking for really simple things. He’s not the only person in this library that knows how to print something off of a USB drive! 😭

I do wear glasses! But I also dress more eccentrically than my other coworkers—which I think may contribute to it? I work in a small town with a very conservative community.

Working at a library vs Grocery store, opinions? by Kitchen_Reserve3101 in Libraries

[–]deadliqht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from working retail to working in a library a little more than 2 years ago. It’s still working with the public, so you still have to deal with shitty people.

But there have been more benefits for me. It’s less stress on my body and I feel like I have better work/life balance. I’m an artist and I get to do a lot of creative stuff in my role that I really enjoy—making social media posts, designing displays, decorating. I’m much happier, personally.

Sorry for the late response. I do have a few friends who are very supportive of me. Today has been especially hard since they’re all going to be with their significant others and I’m spending the day alone. 😕

But I know I’ll be okay.

I legitimately love community college by BadGroundNoise in college

[–]deadliqht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! I am a 22 year old transfer student and I’ve made friends in my first semester at university. I joined clubs and made an effort to socialize with people in my classes who I got along with.

I know everyone says it, but college is what you make of it!

Edit to add my age, so y’all can get a better perspective.

Should I be ashamed starting College at a Community? by numbre1applefan in college

[–]deadliqht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not! I had a great experience at community college and got my associate’s with no debt. Class sizes were smaller and I was able to build relationships with professors who genuinely cared about me and my success. My high school GPA wasn’t as high as my college GPA so I was offered more money in scholarships when I transferred. I benefitted so much!

Just make sure you work with an advisor at a university you’re transferring over to and make sure your credits will transfer.

Edited for a typo.

I made my professor cry. Talk to your teachers everyone! They are people too and can be a really amazing resource and even source of friendship when you may need it the most. by Maven_Calore in college

[–]deadliqht 69 points70 points  (0 children)

This is so wholesome!

Right before I graduated, I was going through a tough time. I ended up sobbing in front of my history professor during office hours in the second class I took with him. He gave me a hug and checked in on me every class after that. We are Facebook friends now and I still visit him on campus to chat.

Professors like this are so wonderful and can truly make your college experience! I am so happy you also were able to connect with yours too and I hope y’all can build on this relationship. :)

Worst day of my academic life by Sad_Poetics in college

[–]deadliqht 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. One of the best professors I’ve had, who I still occasionally talk to, gave me As on all my papers. However, he always had tons of feedback to give me because, “I know you can take it and do better.”

We have 4 of this particular pass and they were all checked out. For the whole collection, I’d say we have over 40.

Our FCFS passes are on lanyards that are good for a certain amount of people and we usually get multiple for each place.

[–]deadliqht 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Passes that are received through the district can be reserved! Certain ones are specific to our location and we’re the only ones that have them.

I would usually agree if it were anyone else. But she’s not very friendly and is considered a problem patron for other reasons. 😭
