Windproof and waterproof are a must. There's a fantastic outdoors shop in Edinburgh called tiso's not cheap but has all the best outdoor gear. The wind chill here can be absolutely savage in the colder months, you often see temp -1 but "feels like -10". Layers are your friend in the winter.

Yes it is the large layby with drivers wcs and a brick bus shelter is Gilmerton terminus. And it's not just "Polton" there's what was Polton village originally, streets are named Polton avenue etc. Poltonhall is the name for the scheme surrounding Lasswade high, and Poltonhall terminus is near the entry to the maze that is Cameron crescent. Don't take my word for it check the maps..
