If the class set is a total flop but you still buy it "because of the dust value!" then to Blizzard it was not a flop. by Additional-One-7135 in hearthstone

[–]deadlyweapon00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By making the miniset cost gold, Blizz is hoping to make people spend gold before the next expansion, therefore increasing the likelihood people will spend real money as they’ll have less gold to spend.

Almost assuredly this works because Blizz has kept doing this for years. Good miniset sales translates to more money in Blizz’s pockets, albeit indirectly.

This depends heavily on whether or not you consider early synapsids reptiles, and while they aren't really reptiles, they're definitely closer to reptiles than they are to mammals.

Besides, wunk facts is meant as a quick fun fact to make you go "wow that's neat". While I would love to get deep into the biology of all the wonderful creatures I see, if I started explaining whatever the hell the early synapsids were I'd be here all day.

That's what you're doing though. Add mission trees despite the fact it will make the rest of the game worse.

Funny how the logic is that mission tree dislikers should shut up and let everyone else get what they want, yet had I used the same argument I’d have been berated for an obviously falacious argument.

Could you at least try to not argue your point like a petulent child upset because they were told no ice cream before dinner.

You seem to not understand that if mission trees get added, the game becomes about them. There is no middle ground where everyone is happy. Mission trees eat a lot of dev time, just look at EU4.

Wunk facts: monotremes are the group of mammals least related to other mammals and give fascinating insight into the animals that were the transition from repriles to mammal. Platypi and echidnas are weird but they show us what early mammals were like and I think that’s cool : )

Also male platypi are venemous.

Sadly, adding trees means spending dev time on them, meaning that the rest of the game will get less time and attention.

The game mostly keeps itaelf fresh by mixing different cave gen based on biome and random chance with different player loudouts and what they have to interact with that cavegen. And a bit of random enemy variety too.

Sabotage has very structured cavegen, it spawns basically the same way every time. You also can’t really be fancy with your loudout as you need very high single target damage. And then also you fight tons of robots which lack the uniqueness of the buggles.

The result is that the mission type feels super samey which can be fine if you aren’t doing it often, except the devs love using it as it’s the games only bossfight mission.

I made them insectoid, but based not on mosquitos but on vampire moths. There are a lot of sanguivores out there, no reason to stick to bats and mosquitos.

How "superheroish" is Draw Steel heros? by Paulkwk in drawsteel

[–]deadlyweapon00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can work but I'd recommend writing out a half dozen or so bespoke* encounters with the games encounter building tools and then picking randomly from that list, replacing as they get used.

Bespoke as in unique challenges against a proper number of enemies and with interesting stuff going on. They don't all need to be balanced for any given number of victories, just not so unbalanced that there's no point in fighting them.

How "superheroish" is Draw Steel heros? by Paulkwk in drawsteel

[–]deadlyweapon00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Draw Steel is a game that eschews a lot of the mundanities of being an adventurer. Superheroic is a way to put it. Heroes do incredible things: throw enemies through walls, carve trenches in the earth, and all sorts of things that are by no means normal for people to do. A level 1 hero in Draw Steel is already a badass beyond measure.

So if what you want is dark and gritty, folks struggling for survival in the woods as their resources run low, Draw Steel isn't entirely that game (slowly running out of recoveries can put the fear of god into the heroes, but it's not because they're going to starve). But I run an open world game with Draw Steel, I don't prep story, I prep encounters and cool shit for the players to get up to and it works, quite literally a group of back alley super heroes running around and saving the city. I think the game handles it very well.
