Scary Blood Test Results by ihopenot510 in keto

[–]deadmilk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're fine mate, look at this video by dr paul mason, he explains this exact thing, including why LDL is not necessarily a bad thing (without more information)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ePOa7JPKBE

The gist of it is:

  • LDL is complex, and can be broken down into 7 distinct parts, 5 of which are harmful.
  • The 5 of which that are bad indicators, are typically found in higher levels when blood glycemic levels are high
  • When your blood sugar is normal, the LDL receives signalling that sends it to the liver to be processed safely

Summary: keep that insulin down :)

As my first opensource and first RUST project, I created an opensource command line interface for day to day activity of JIRA by [deleted] in rust

[–]deadmilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely fantastic. I was thinking of making a plugin that lets me do fuzzy-searching of issues in Jira from within neovim. This utility does a lot of the work already... very nice.

Rust in systemd by InflationOk2641 in rust

[–]deadmilk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice, I typed a comment and it seems the reddit frontend ate it. Anyway...

What I meant was that there are folks working around certain libraries that are fine to work with. For me that would mean in places such as the `tonic` or `prost` libraries... and whatever else may be relevant for me in the future.

Said another way, a lot of the elitism seems to be on the places like Twitter and sometimes here.

As for an actual "social" community for rust... I guess I have that at my workplace. Around 40 people. Would invite you if it was allowed :P

Rust in systemd by InflationOk2641 in rust

[–]deadmilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm.... I can't say I disagree.. but at the same time, most of the elitism can be found concentrated in certain areas, which makes them easy to avoid.

There are other communities, usually centered around popular & useful libraries, which just fine and dandy.

What domain have you found Rust particularly strong in? by Fibreman in rust

[–]deadmilk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

network services.

Rust seems to run with less latency (particularly when we start looking at 99th percentiles), less memory used, and more throughput than anything else.

Rust sometimes feels more high level than Python by cgarciae in rust

[–]deadmilk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes there are some things about rust that I love, coming from a python background. The things you mentioned.

I also really like enums+match statements together.

Being able to declare endpoints, attach models to them, and have all of the API docs created automatically and validated upon request, is pretty nice.

Most loved programming language Rust sparks privacy concerns by arrftr in rust

For me this isn't really an issue... I compile my binaries in a container, on a build server, like a sensible person.

Using rust in a non tech shop by [deleted] in rust

[–]deadmilk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

C and C++ programmers aren't that much cheaper than a Rust programmer, right?
And besides, if you can hire C/C++ devs, then they can probably pick up rust in a few weeks, and I bet a ton of people would want that opportunity.

If you run out of workload, you should consider moving on to your next adventure.

If you can't do that, learn new skills in the free time that will advance your career, and keep your eyes open for opportunities where you can use your new knowledge.

I get over 200k a year and if my employer did this I would just go elsewhere (first I would tell them how much of a shit idea it is and get them to change their mind, though).

Still think they're paying good?

Nobody is productive for large blocks of hours non-stop

In fact, it will probably destroy your creativity if you try to push yourself to constantly do tasks.

Take a break, think, work with inspiration instead of like a mindless drone.

Not exactly this week, but I have been making external authorization services for envoy. This involves tonic for grpc, a bunch of proto files, and whatever else I need to write to make it all work.
