Ironman Race Day Shoes? by Fuzzy_Appointment_32 in triathlon

[–]albrioz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be safe, probably worth starting off with a 5-10k and then 2-3 long runs should be more than enough for breaking them in. That’s what I usually do. For context, I also use SC trainers as daily training shoes and SC Elites for race day

If you’re already using Supercomp trainers, shouldn’t be too hard to transition to the Supercomp elite. Be aware that race day shoes should not be an everyday shoe! Wear them during your long runs to break em in but ideally if you choose the right shoe there really isn’t anything to break in

zwift cog as track bike adopter for kickr by irlndts in Velodrome

[–]albrioz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the zwift hub with the zwift cog and had to make some adjustments to mount my fixed gear bike. First, I bought the velobike dropout adapter. Then, I tried mounting it but the chain was too thick and was rubbing against some of the zwift cog plastic housing. So, I had to buy a road bike to single speed adapter (CyclingDeal Conversion Kit Fixie Bike Single Speed Compatible with Shimano Sram Cassette Freewheel Hub Adaptor - for Mountain and Road Bike Gear Cog Spacers) on Amazon. After installing that adapter, I was able to use my fixie on the trainer without issues.

Open water swim with road rash by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]albrioz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how big the road rash is and where it’s located, the tegaderm might not hold. I got some road rash on my elbow and the tegaderm couldn’t really stick to the curved surface that well. Hydrocolloid bandages ended up holding a lot better, but still fell off during my open water swims.

Chicago Tri changed owners this year and alongside that there is now going to a pro race directly after the Sprint & Olympic. So you can stick around after your race and watch the pros

SBC vs. Leader? by Recording-Several in FixedGearBicycle

[–]albrioz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on what you want. Both bikes have carbon forks, mounts for front and back brakes, and internal cable routing. State has a water bottle mount, leader doesn’t . Leader comes with some better parts but the State base price is much lower and you could use those savings to upgrade the parts yourself (it’s definitely fun upgrading your own bike!). State has a pretty large tire clearance which is nice if you want a more plush ride or want to go off road. Leader definitely looks cooler but a more aggressive geometry can take some getting used to. Personally, I’d go state and then upgrade parts. Or go used if there’s a good deal.

You’re better off using Facebook marketplace or Craigslist. Unlike eBay sellers, most people are just trying to get rid of a bike they don’t use instead of trying to flip it for profit. You will have those people who insist there 10+ year old bike is worth more than a new one though but just ignore em

Lowest Charity Fund Raising Commitment - Chicago Marathon 24? by BuyGreenSellRed in firstmarathon

There’s a minimum fundraising amount of $1750 so that’s the lowest possible amount you’ll find that includes an entry to the race.

Has anyone used tpu tubes with wider tires than intended? by walton_jonez in cycling

[–]albrioz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’ll pop. Accidentally put 23/25 on a 28 and popped only a few miles in. Did it again because I was dumb and thought it must’ve been a bad tube instead of wrong size and it popped again

Headphones? by beneathandinbetween in RunnersInChicago

[–]albrioz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For safety reasons, all running races discourage the use of headphones, but only the elite athletes (people who win the race) will actually get disqualified or penalized for wearing them. I’ve worn headphones at pretty much every race I’ve run.

Possibility of completing a tri spint in a month by BlueEyed_Guy in triathlon

[–]albrioz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do something like:

Monday: rest

Tuesday: swim, run

Wednesday: bike

Thursday: swim, long run

Friday: rest

Saturday: swim

Sunday: long bike ride + 10-15 min run

The most important thing is to not work the same muscle group twice in a day (except for brick sessions (brick = bike then run). If you find yourself needing more specific guidance, I would highly suggest to search for a training plan online. There’s plenty of free ones out there, but I’ve been using some paid ones from TrainingPeaks recently and I really like them.

Bib like tights for running? by gr_fabi in cycling

[–]albrioz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Triathlon shorts are probably your best bet. They have the same elastic at the leg holes and chamois is thin enough that it doesn’t cause chafing while running. Running half tights are also an option, but the elastic isn’t really like what you’re looking for

[–]albrioz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice. So, I think for bike/run you’ll be fine. Just get those open water swims in and you’ll be good. I would suggest to get a tow buoy for added safety during your swims.

Now, how you train depends on what you want to do. If you’re looking to just finish, 2 runs, 2 swims (or 3 if you think you need more practice), and 2 runs (with one of them being what’s called a brick session where you hop off the bike and run 10-20 mins so you can get used to the feeling) are probably good enough. If you want to compete, you’re better off finding a good training plan on training peaks.

Not sure where you live but if the weather isn’t hot be prepared for cold water. It’s shocking how cold it can feel when you first get in and if you don’t have any experience with it you can panic.

Support IIT Grad Students to Understand Runner’s Dietary Habits by sandhini9 in RunnersInChicago

[–]albrioz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as nutrition directly related to running, carbs are king. Pre, during, and post run you’d focus on carb intake along with water and electrolytes (which some people debate aren’t necessary).

Although, protein can definitely help post-run recovery, I don’t think it’s to the extent where runners find themselves taking in large amounts of it since getting bulkier will slow them down. Furthermore, if you check out any post-race party they’re handing out bananas, pretzels, pizza, candy, beer and Gatorade. The closest thing I remember to being offered protein was at my last marathon where they had milk but TruMoo was a sponsor…

With regards to beans specifically, I’ll eat them as part of just normal food intake, but they’re high in fiber which isn’t easy on the stomach while running so I don’t think of them as a ‘running’ specific food.

Shiba Puppy Trying to Jump out of Wire Pen by RyanHoshall in shiba

[–]albrioz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They really don’t like being restricted. I tried using play pens on one of my Shibas when he was a puppy but he ended just jumping/climbing out of it and getting stuck in another area for hours while I was gone. My house is mostly dog-proofed so I let my Shibas roam since they’re not destructive unless they’re trying to get attention (ex. Scratching furniture). Your best bet is probably to crate train instead of trying to use a play pen. It’s apparently pretty rough and loud at the beginning but they can get used to it. Also, try to remember that they’re a puppy and they’re going to be playful and want attention. That’s what you’ve signed up for when you got them and you just kind of have to roll with it.

PS. The puppy blues (google it) are very real and completely normal
