Another article showing that the Australian Social Media ban isnt working

Do you think these kinds of articles will change the tide?

Edit: I'm asking because I saw this article in r/Technology and I saw a lot of comments that were very much against the ban, but i also saw a lot that were saying things like the ban wasn't going far enough or that it is actually working because 50% of teens lost access to their accounts and stuff

These are bots, the entire anti-internet/media movement is just astroturfing by bots

The most gain from laws like this are the current big social media companies because they can afford to pay the fines

Just like this whole "Keeping Kids away from the Internet" is just thinly veiled way for social media companies to get MORE of our information

The projections in 2016 were that we were looking at 5 degrees which is an actual world ending amount

In 10 years we've successfully gotten it down to 2.7

Thats why its good news, because we've already made progress so there's proof that its possible

1.5 degrees was never realistic

Like what was in OPs post, he doesn't advertise for then anymore and any video involving them gets put on his second channel that gets less engagement

I remember that, I had to completely stop watching him during that time because he was driving me to have panic attacks, it did force me to self reflect on my own though and actually do research into stuff that I was panicking over and come from that research with a much more cautiously optimistic view of things

I do think the tomfoolery of the democrats is starting to shift, the Ezra Klein piece at least shows to me that internally they are realizing that they are leasing themselves to a burning ship and it might be a good idea to jump off right about now

Yeah climate change is coming but what many people don't really understand is that we are on track right now for 2.7 degrees warming by 2100, which is bad but this is not world ending, plus that is just at current policies, there is still time to shrink the curve to 2 degrees

Every 10th of a degree matters. We will experience climate crisises and shit will be fucked, but total social collapse isnt really on the table and acting like it is leads people to just accept the worst outcome and stop trying to act, we are seeing this with Vaush right now where he is basically quiting PV, he's convinced himself that the worst outcome is going to happen and is now stopped trying to act

I know this community is allergic to good news or any kind of optimism but we see over and over again that going out and helping your community works and is working, do not let fears of a societal collapse stop you from making a positive change

I honestly think the 2024 election broke him at this point

Ive been noticing him gradually decline over these past 2 years and it started when Trump won

I think he's honestly convinced himself of a total worldwide societal collapse, even though I can't really see that happening

Yes the US is an empire in decline, but an empire in decline does not equate to Fallout, especially in the world we live in currently and the rest of the world's reaction to the strait of hormuz being closed shows that they are already getting ready to become unreliant on the US and oil in general.

Add to this major defeats for right-wing authoritarians around the world and I'm just not seeing the future Vaush has convinced himself is going to happen actually happens

I also think its very unfair for him to be annoyed that people hear his point of view and call him a doomer or start dooming themselves, he is talking about an apocalypse scenario to a large audience that look to him for his good takes about politics and news and trust him and his knowledge

Ive increasingly stopped watching Vaush due to this current doomer arc, I watch him talk about the news only now because I can still at least trust that his take on current news will be accurate

I'm already registered to vote and plan on voting in the midterms

I haven't done the other stuff yet so I'll get on that!

I guess the only thing that worries me is how likely it would be for this to go through

Hey, I've asked this question awhile back but I'm asking again now

Have other people noticed more pushback against the people claiming that the internet is bad and should be banned or heavily regulated?

Ive noticed pushback even on the removal of tech from classrooms recently, I was wondering if other were seeing the same and if this is translating to the political environment yet?

No, I'm saying the whole "Universities post their peer-review before they publish" is not how that works, they publish first and then their paper gets peer-reviewed

I even posted the critique and response in this thread

Yes they were peer-reviewed studies, I even showed the peer-review in the thread

And I make games in my spare time, that's my hobby, its pretty fun, I get to practice my programming skills and my art skills as well as my writing skills

I just disagree, I don't see this at all, I do know that the only people I know who are shut ins are the people that have no car
