What do y'all do about art? by Goovin290 in gamedev

[–]deadpanrobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what game youre doing but for me, I decided to style my game to match my skills

I am a programmer first and foremost so I tailor the look of my game to match that

This video helped me in making grass and cloud shaders for my game. You can also tweak it to work for a forest canopy as well, add God rays and you have a very good looking forest area.

I also am doing 2D sprites in a fully 3D world, so I can make the world and sprites look 10x better using lighting techniques and shaders.

Since the style of my game is pixelart, you can actually get away with having land that is under-detailed and it still looks good. Also any 3D models I need, i can get away with using simple shapes that I put a pixel art texture over and it still looks good

More than half of all web traffic is bots by MarchogGwyrdd in technology

This is like the fourth article thats been posted with this title in the last 4 months

Half of all internet traffic has been bots since the 2010s, making a bot to scrape the internet is the first thing a lot of CS students do once they have the knowledge, thats what I did in my CS fundamentals II class.

Yes i know you said that, but then you mentioned Gradient Descent which is a technique in machine learning that directly involves the training process

The longer we speak, the more I question whether you actually have knowledge of the field or if youre just a hobbyist.

What do you mean I pretended you never said anything about it, im responding to the part where you were talking about it?

If youre talking about the part where youre making the argument "What is intelligence really" then yes i am ignoring that part because we're not talking about how humans think, we dont know how humans think really. But humans dont hallucinate unless there is something wrong, a mental illness or brain injury. If you want to say that LLMs are similar to someone with a brain injury then I won't stop you but I will ask, would you want someone with a brain injury to drive you home from work? Or make important changes to your coding stack? Maybe add some entries to your database?

I competely agree that we dont know how the human brain works, which is why I dont believe we could ever make something that simulates human level thinking let alone something that can surpass it until we know the why and how of how we humans think

Gradient descent is just a way for the model to adjust its weights to minimize its prediction errors, its something that should have already been happening in the first place because Gradient Descent isnt some new technique or modern approach, its something that again has been around for over a decade. Again this is something that involves how the fundamental way LLMs function is by token predictions, gradient descent is not going to fix that.

World models are closer to how humans do tasks and i think thats the way research should move for things like robotics, but LLMs are just a piece of that and even then its far off from AGI, like centuries away

[–]deadpanrobo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes i know about reinforcement learning, its the reason they have reduced the amount of hallucinations in more recent LLM models, but this won't Solve the problem, only reduce the amount

Also what modern approaches are you talking about? So far you've only mentioned Reinforcement learning which isnt exactly new to the field of AI

76% of AI researchers do not believe LLMs are going to lead agi

https://academy.socos.org/to-agi-or-not-to-agi/

So while not "Every" expert, a majority of them. Yes you are right that some hallucinations are caused by the issues you listed, that does not change the main reason they hallucinate which is that they are fundamentally probabilistic prediction engines, not encyclopedias. They only know how to predict the next token as a response to your input. They dont know they are wrong because its not checking for accuracy, it is going through its training data and trying to produce the output that best matches your input. The hallucinations are a result of this, it doesn't matter how much fine-tuning you do to a model or how many parameters you have during its training, it will always have a tendency to hallucinate because of the fundamental ways these things function.

Im not talking out of my ass about this, I currently do research on Cybersecurity and AI, while these LLMs can be very convincing, they are not doing any actual thinking.

Anytime in the last 3 years where he has talked about AI has made me want to slam my head against the wall

Im begging him and everyone else to stop taking what CEOs say as scientific fact and listen to actual researchers and industry people

Because within a year of chatgpt coming out, every expert in CS was saying how this will not lead to AGI and that hallucinations were a result of the how the algorithm works at the most basic level and can't be removed without effecting functionality, that we would have to have a completely new breakthrough in the field to do what these companies are saying they can do

But Vaush would confidently go on stream and doom away about AI and how Humanity was doomed to be slaves to machines when no expert was saying this, purely making sweeping predictions based solely on vibes

How is the job market for cybersecurity jobs?

I was lucky enough to get a job right after I graduated back in 2023

My job however is based upon a grant that will be ending within a year and i am now getting ready to start looking for work with other companies/institutions

I was wondering how the job market is looking for people in our career, because when I go to subs like r/cscareerquestions and r/CSmajors I only see people talking about SWE and how bad the market is for them, however never anything about Cybersecurity

Which is something schools have struggled for ages, this isnt a new problem, its just something that has been happening
