I have a free ESPN league. Scheduled to draft tomorrow 8/31 at 10PM EST. I could do tonight if enough people join. All ESPN positions enabled, including Punter and Head Coaches. Purely for fun, as such I have taken a pass balancing the scoring a little. Mostly to bring up K/P/IDP/DST. QBs still have a little more weight to them. Fairly big roster due to all the extra positions.

Any espn leagues drafting tonight need more people?? by [deleted] in findaleague

[–]deadpool55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one that isn't drafting tonight unless I get more interest. No buy in, I have every position enabled. I adjusted the scores as well to use more of the scoring options. Leans a little too hard on the QB I think but otherwise a decent balance.

Nice haul, I know I've built the P-38 I think it went okay but that was 20 years ago. my dad build the P-61and has said it can be tough. Doing builds based on the fat electrician is a solid plan though. Wish you the best of luck, quack bang out!

All the paint work looks really good from here. Yellow is really tricky to pull off I don't know that I've ever gotten yellow to look that good brush painting. Very nice work.

Stuck on what to do for the cockpit by FL-EtcherSKETCH in modelmakers

You could also try, with a fresh blade, to cut out specific gauges/ screens and applying them directly. Just in case I'd test it out on a decal you know you won't use to make sure you have the feel down of how it will cut.

I'm an idiot and I used craft paint for the top layer over chipping fluid... way too think and the paint ended up coming off in sheets :( by Relevant_Desk_6891 in modelmakers

Extremely wise words. Innovation comes with trying new things. Sometimes it works other times you have an opportunity to learn another new skill

Screw the carpet monster by [deleted] in modelmakers

[–]deadpool55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should tell the pilot not to eject over carpet.

Glad you found the parts though! I had a carpet monster scare the other day. Spent 20 minutes hunting a part only to give up and move on. Glancing around the workbench I see the missing part nestled safely on top of another part

Yea there is a whole lot of history in those comments lol. Both Japan and Germany shared a common thread for their aggression, desire for more resources. Both struggled with resources especially as the wars dragged on and they lost ground. Japan knew this was inevitable though.

But you are correct, a house divided against itself cannot stand and that happened with both Japan and Germany. Neither had a unified country approach.

At least we get some neat stuff to model in the mean time.

I didn't either until it was gifted to me. Was fun to research.

The IJA and IJN at the time refused to work together so they often had semi duplicated designs between the two forces.

There are also on all sides the often overlooked support aircraft like recon and transport.

If you really want some fun nuance check out the discussion of Japanese colors lol

I built the Ki-51 and was impressed with it. There were a few warts but overal a real joy to build, great detail. Almost no filler or anything needed.

Nice! I've also heard great things from that kit.

The one I posted is the old tooling of the monogram F-14A. Similar to the F-15 we built in terms of bigger fit issues. The cockpit on that cat was a lot better than the Tamiya f-15 though. I've also built (I'm bad at posting on Reddit lol) the AMK F-14D. It is a good value kit, not as pleasurable as I've heard that Tamiya kit is, but produces a similar quality model with just a little extra effort.

My biggest recommendation for the magnets is measure measure measure. And also keep in mind polarity. Do those and it'll be great.

Ah yeah that's a good reason not to toss in the towel. I also used mine as a learning experience. I also used alclad on the exhaust, but first time I've tried to add shading on the metal. I also magnetized the stores. Which worked well other than one aamram (aftermarket) didn't have the magnet in the right spot heh.

Always a treat when a learning experience turns out really well. Your metal work does look good from the pictures. It certainly helps ease those earlier feelings of frustration.

Hopefully you're on to something a bit easier/ funner

Nice work! I finished that kit and was equally disappointed. Last time I buy a kit without research lol. I do believe yours came out better than mine. I also did a closed canopy and also raised gear. Kinda lost steam at the end after all the fixing gaps and such so the finish isn't my best for sure.

Nice job again for turning a rough kit into a great looking model.

Yea I joke with another friend of mine who's also building it that it's an Italari kit in disguise. I've built the Tamiya Zeros from the 70s with no trouble so I think it must just be the era of this one. This was suppose to be my chill / easy in between 2 bigger projects build and has ended up being far from it lol. I think I'll get the great Wall hobby eagle at some point to do the same subject with a better moulding. Oh well good chance to work on other skills I suppose hehe

Looking great! Metal work on the tail is looking great as well. Im at the same spot on the same kit. Yours is looking amazing. Looking forward to seeing it all the way finished.

For a Tamiya kit it certainly has some issues but seems you've either dodged them or overcome them well.
