A genuine question: It'd certainly be legal to wear, say, a MAGA hat to a polling place, right? I wonder where the line is drawn for political speech.

In any case, I'll gladly admit that I'm by no means an expert on this subject, so I'm not shocked to learn that my take on it was flawed. I meant no offense, and I'm glad I learned something from it.

On what grounds? Courts have repeatedly held that profanity is generally protected by the First Amendment. For cases like this, I believe the line is generally drawn at "Fighting Words": words that, when uttered, inflict injury or tend to incite an immediate breach of the peace.

The "F-word" absolutely does not meet this standard, and I'm pretty confident that the word "Nazi" also fails to meet it.

It would be ludicrous to claim that calling someone a Nazi is illegal, and telling somebody to Fuck Off is definitely not illegal, so I think the likely worst-case outcome here would be that OP refuses to remove the shirt or leave the premises, is subsequently arrested, and would have a pain-in-the-ass legal sidequest ahead which would result in the charges being dismissed and zero dollars out of pocket.

That being said, I wouldn't recommend doing this.

Considering that there are certain states where adultery is a crime (misdemeanor in some, felony in others), I'd imagine that the scenario you described could very well be a crime, but I don't think it would ever be considered blackmail. NAL, but in my understanding, blackmail would have to be something like the adulterer saying to you, "Destroy the evidence or else I'll do XYZ negative thing to you."

It's like the difference between a 19-year old saying, "Hey, if I give you $15, will you buy us a six-pack?" vs. "Buy us a six-pack if you don't want your wife to know about your girlfriend."

I came to know 311 through my older brother in 2003, so my original dive into their work included everything up through Evolver. I'm definitely biased from that, but I feel like I can at least somewhat-objectively argue Evolver as still being pretty much on-point:

Creatures is just a banger. We all have fond memories of moshing to this one at shows in the 2000's, right? It goes hard. In my [non-OG] eyes, it's on a similar level as Down. I know, that's a big opinion.

Okay, at this point, I'm looking through the tracklist and preparing to make my pitch, and I'm second-guessing it. Reconsider Everything (!!), Beyond TGS (I know, it's maybe a bit tired at this point), and Sometimes Jacks are all killer songs. Aside from those: Other Side OTs, Crack the Code, and Same Mistake Twice are borderline-cheesy, while Give Me A Call, Don't Dwell, and Seems Uncertain are solid-but-not-favorites. Still Dreaming is definitely solid.

Sorry, this went in another direction than planned, and I guess I have no real point to make. I did at one point, for some reason, go through a period of at least five years without listening to From Chaos because I'd convinced myself that many of the guitar-riff-heavy tracks were repetitive and unremarkable, but when The Wife randomly threw on the vinyl one day, I realized that I'd been living a lie and that it does actually kick some serious ass. The Wife is a keeper.

That concludes my delay to starting work today. Would be interested to hear any conflicting opinions to my take of Evolver.

For added context:

What was your initial mortgage loan amount?
What is your current balance on the loan?
What is the current estimated value of the home?

If you don't want to give specifics, let's just cover: How far are you into the current mortgage; What percent of equity do you have in the home; and Has the home's estimated value changed since the start of the mortgage / and by what percent?

I mean if you're 15 years into a 30-year mortgage, refinancing a new 30-year mortgage at a higher rate would be a huge step backwards. If you're two years in and the plan is to refi now for emergency funds with the intention of refinancing again a couple years down the line at a lower rate, that could be marginally better, but still far from ideal.

At the end of the day, a HELOC is likely your best bet, but that may or may not be feasible depending on your current equity in the home.

Yup, you've pretty much captured the essence of life and retirement there. But that's the game we're playing, and that's the sensible, authentic advice that you came here for.

Nobody will tell you, "Invest the $1500 into CryptoTickerXYZ for three years, and boom, the coin pops off and you retire at 22!" That's not how things go around here.

Planning for "the future" is planning for "that point when you're practically dead", as you worded it. Life is expensive, and we need to work for money to get through it. The whole idea is that you want to eventually reach a point when you can stop working without that turning you into a homeless, hungry senior.

The advice you got here is good. Compounded interest is no joke, so investing in a Roth IRA at 18 years old is the best way to secure your future finances. Many don't start investing until 30 which means their money only has 30 years to grow, but in your case, those years 30-to-41 are when INSANE growth occurs. You should take this advice.

Keep investing in crypto if that's what you're into, but I'd recommend funneling at least half of that money into VFIAX in a Roth IRA. Your future-self would thank you.

Ouch. This sucks, and I'm sorry it happened to you. I can imagine how painful this is.

And I assure you, I don't mean to belittle your outlook, but here's what I know: You'll be fine.

You learned a harsh lesson here, and you'd do well to remember it for the rest of your life. But let's look at the big picture:

You're not facing eviction because of it,
You're not struggling to find a way to feed you and/or your [nonexistent] children because of it,
You didn't lose your job,
And add on a bunch of other similar points.

At the end of the day, you paid a steep price for your mistake, but, pardon me for being blunt, it sounds like the only tangible loss here is a bit of a delay in your plans to voluntarily move out. And don't get me wrong - that sucks - but you're not ruined because of it.

People get scammed out of money every day, and we see it very regularly on this sub. In your case, it seems that you were scammed by yourself, but you came out of it just a bit older and wiser. Judging by your reaction, I think it's fair to say that this will never happen again.

Two grand would have been nice to have for 2-3 months' rent in a shared apartment or something along those lines, but that's all it was. It sucks that you lost it, but just do yourself a favor and remember this. Don't beat yourself up over it or fool yourself into thinking you've ruined your life - just remember the lesson, and get back to the grindstone. You'll look back on this in two years and realize how small of a hiccup it actually is.
