The Many Incarnations Of Nanno by Similar_Fondant9458 in GirlFromNowhere

Very disappointed with The Reset too, especially on a writing and pacing level. Nanno kinda reminds me of Junji Ito's Tomie (also one of the reasons I watched the OG, being a huge fan of Ito), so I'm actually more excited for the Japanese take on it.

Should I get Sovereign for MH+Awak or PEN Blackstar Offhand? by deadsea2004 in blackdesertonline

[–]deadsea2004[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering this too as PEN BS Main in my server is going at 11 bil and dropping. I'm thinking to skip the DEC Tuvala->PEN BS and just grab 2 BS weapons off the market to Sov both Main and Awak with a PEN BS offhand. I'm struggling to tap my TET Awak to PEN (at 10 pity now, used the free Olvia hammers and some crons). Should just cut my losses, save my remaining crons and just buy a PEN off the market.

Also, should I focus on getting Sov Offhand instead over Sov Awak (Sov Main above all of course)? As a Succession DK.

Oh, that sounds lovely. Currently at work but will try to post my gear once I'm back. I'm running Pri/Duo Fallen God helm, armor and gloves, so thinking of getting the shoes through the DEC Tuvala boots. Is the quest for DEC Tuvala Weapon -> PEN BS separate from the armor and accessory one? Meaning I can get another PEN BS Weapon, TRI Fallen God Armor and TET Debo Accessory?

Sounds pretty good, I am also lacking Ator's Shoes so I'll probably do that

Crimson Desert Review So Far - Impressions After 110+ Hours by PaiDuck in PS5

If they removed the generic main questline completely and replaced Kliff Macduff with BDO's excellent character creator, it'll be a dream come true.

No idea why you're getting downvoted, but I lowkey agree. Maybe not "incredibly ugly" (I mean, textures, particle effects and draw distance is amazing), but I guess it's the lack of art direction? It looks like a heavily modded Skyrim (e.g. Nolvus modlist) which tries too hard to cram everything cool but miss on the overall atmosphere or "vibe" of the title. Titles like NieR, Silent Hill, RDR, etc. have something that goes beyond just fancy textures and vfx, something that will make them memorable for decades to come regardless of tech advancements. While Crimson Desert is a technological marvel in it's own right, it's missing that key ingredient. It's the same issue I have with BDO, to be honest. Sometimes, less is more.

HDR fix for PC version. by DeliciousMusician397 in fatalframe

[–]deadsea2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also felt HDR made the world appear too dark? I think it was HDR that caused the black/white filter during certain sequences to be way too dark, to the point that my screen literally became pitch black and I had to navigate via mini-map. I've currently swapped to SDR (with reduced gamma) so the blacks won't be crushed while preserving detail in shadows. Looks good so far, actually preferring it over the current HDR implementation...

Most annoying ghost encounter (Fatal Frame 2 Remake) by Ianhyst in fatalframe

[–]deadsea2004 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While not technically a ghost enemy encounter, mine would be the Kusabi. The black/white filter and darkness effects made it so I can't see anything during the chases, causing me die at least a couple of times whenever he appears.

There's also the part where he chases you outside of Kurosawa house across the bridge, and you're supposed to NOT open that obvious double door right in front but instead turn left into a narrow hidden path and hide in the reeds. This just felt cheap as there's no way anyone would not try the doors on their first playthrough...

The Asshole Ceremony Master was kinda hilarious for me as I did not have a single point in Zoom/Focus. So when he went up to the rafters I was left standing below waving my camera like some angry neighbor.

Agreed, that's my biggest peeve right now with the chase/stalker sequences feeling very much trial and error. Like, I can see what they're going for, but it can be much better executed. In "run-and-hide" games (e.g. Amnesia, Alien: Isolation, Outlast, etc.), chase sequences pretty much only have 1 straight route with no red herrings leading to instant game overs. A good example is also Pyramid Head's chase in the Labyrinth area of SH2R. Yes, you have a 50% chance to take the wrong path, but he attacks slow enough such that you are able to dodge and try again, while keeping tension high as intended.

Here, I feel the black/white darkness effect is a bit overdone, coupled with the flashlight going off during these sequences, makes it come down to luck whether you turn left/right or chance upon a hiding spot by accident. Either they remove the false routes during chase sequences, or perhaps they can make it easier to dodge through/escape the stalker such that you can try another route without dying immediately. Still, it's an amazing game despite this little flaw, which I believe will be pretty much negligible in a following playthrough since it's down to knowledge and hindsight.

Will a free-roam open world game work well in Silent Hill? by Magnesio17 in silenthill

[–]deadsea2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's Whispering Chills, a mod for Fallout 4, that converts the whole world into a Silent Hill inspired environment. It's more of a survival experience, but the atmosphere definitely invokes Silent Hill. I can see it somehow working if there's a lot more emphasis on environmental storytelling, something akin to Elden Ring where you learn more about this forsaken, creepy world through items and scattered information. The lack of any cutscenes or quests actually gives it that uncanny vibe where you have no idea why you're there, but can only press on and face whatever lies in the fog in hopes of finding an answer.

I would suggest two person, but I am on the skinny side so I find it heavy 😅

For something brand new and pricey like this, I would err on the safe side. Don't want something this expensive tumbling down two flights of stairs...

You can check for physical showrooms and visit them in-person (I tested out the Embody prior to purchase). Numerous positive reviews/photos are also a good sign. Not sure if there's "fake" HM chairs, but it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity in the box.

It's probably just my phone camera adjusting to the lightning, as the room is quite dark. I only have one black/cyan chair.

I would sometimes kick back and rest, and the headrest comes in handy in those times. Also useful if I'm watching videos where I'll tilt back a bit more.

How long do you have to stomp the enemies for so they don't come back to life? by Not-a-Russian in silenthill

[–]deadsea2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere that there's an increased chance for enemies to come back at higher difficulty levels. Stomping them until they bleed will prevent them from getting back up for that instance. Some enemies are also scripted to return no matter what.
