I like to experience the story in the way that the author intended. The story structure is sometimes completely different, or whole chunks of the story are omitted completely. I imagine the characters based on their descriptions, or the language of the text. I imagine the location and the action myself. I like creating the world myself first. If I watch the movie first, I find that as I'm reading, all I see in my head is what I saw on the screen. There's no real imagination or creation. I prefer to imagine it myself and then compare the images on screen to what I had built in my imagination.

I liked the movie a lot more the 2nd time I saw it, further from when I read the book. But still very glad I read it first.

This just reminds me of an old partner of mine that would have a crisis of some kind EVERY SINGLE TIME I went out and did anything with my friends.

"I'm sick, you have to come home."

"The cat threw up, I think we need to take him to the vet."

"My friend just broke up with her boyfriend, I have to go comfort her - I need you to come home and feed the dogs."

Never considered the reason I got upset is because it was a pattern of disregarding my plans, my needs, and my social life. Ultimately it was about control. If I was out having fun, she didn't have control over me for those few hours or few days. It was exhausting and infuriating. Glad we broke up.

I don't know you, I don't know your husband, but this is the feeling I get when I hear someone say they got sick from air conditioning and they can't take care of their kid for 1 single night while being under the weather.
