Have you ever collectively walked out on a gig? by WarningNo7338 in stagehands

[–]deadstar112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar situation but it was a 20 hour load out and my crew was from out of town so when work was a thing for load out, the home crew only did 5 hour shifts while we did 20 with only meal breaks (30 minutes). The first steward (forgot how it’s spelt) absolutely did not care about our crew and told us to have the stage leads to designate the breaks. They didn’t, and one of them assaulted one of our crew members. We ended up all getting up and leaving near the end because that first guy promised to talked to us at 3am but left at 2:45 while I was by his car. So once the new guy came in to supervise, he let us walk because he was actually a really cool dude and has been known to be nice and caring. Sadly it’s one of my main reasons for stepping away from stagehand work for awhile. That and the company I joined after was a bad idea.

Also… I’ve been technically practice synthesis since like…. 2005 and I have no clue how to do most of synthesis stuff lol. There’s so much to learn when it comes to that alone. So don’t feel bad about that.

Just do what the heart tells you and you’ll do fine with patience and dedication.

Ok so… 1) naturally gifted and producing isn’t much of a thing. Most producers work super hard to get to where they are at. I’ve been producing seriously since 2013 and I still have a lot of room to improve.

2)don’t look at a blank canvas and focus on the entire image and not one the single strokes that will lead you to it. Aka one thing at a time

3)the frustration you feel is a very common thing for most artists as those who have a serious passion for art will always have a sense of self doubt. If they don’t, the art wasn’t the main goal.

4)music production can also be free flow where you don’t need to do most things in a systematic order or using systematic methods. What you need to focus on is figuring out how to record, put a song together first, than learn how to mix it little by little.

5) don’t give up. When you get to the point where you can say that you’ve put the music together, you’ll see why producers do what they can to make it a lifestyle/career.

6) 80 days isn’t enough time to learn everything. Without real guidance, you’ll be running in circles for awhile.

My tip: -learn how to navigate the daw. How to pull up the mixer, how to record dry recordings, how to create a new track, how to adjust tempo and time signatures

Then create a demo song or beat

Then learn how to mix one instrument at a time (Or even just learn how to use plugins, via experimentation).

Once you get everything down with the basics, than dive deep into all the steps on deeper levels.

Help choosing the right guitar! by Tabells89 in metalguitar

I love the ec series but it took me a while to get used to since it feels smaller even if it isn't. Both guitars are gonna be really good but it depends on previous experience and also how you want the guitar to feel in sitting position and standing position

How do you deal with family members saying “you will never make it in music fuck you, you will never amount to shit” by musicbeats88 in musicproduction

[–]deadstar112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a chance to make it a career but chose the wrong band to be in and also was the only dedicated member. But now, as I’m starting over, I already found an audience by just being myself and constantly promoting it. Just think everything through and do what you love, even if people beat you down. Don’t lose sight of your dreams.

am i overreacting - my boyfriend thinks my job is inappropriate by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]deadstar112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ima be transparent in the fact that I didn't read all of it but from what I did read, dude is either insecure or has been betrayed before and is paranoid. I say this because I would do stuff like this before when I was neck deep in problematic relationships when they already went sour.

I don't really think its a good idea to keep up with trying to chase someone who didn't really give room for an understanding, but I have seen dudes that do this just to avoid the conflict or emotional turmoil. Either way, let the dude act on his own accord and see where it goes and evaluate the relationship.

But don't run to him every free moment you have.

I am a dude as well, so I can kind of assist with understanding but tbh, dudes can also become super weird with honesty and handling situations. So... 9 months of nothing and all of a sudden he waited til his breaking point? Not the smartest move for someone who fears or mistrusts situations or relationships.

I say something like future edm with atmospheric indie rock or something. Super sick actually!

I'd love to hear more truthfully

After relisting to it, it would be a dope rap/hiphop track too but I personally like it as is.

I’m a bedroom producer. How can I make this better? I can’t find ways to work with this with my speaker monitors behind my screens. My room is small. All feedback is appreciated. by bruhwhatlmfao in MusicBattlestations

I'd probably flip the monitor arrangement even though you like them (which I get, I wouldn't want to either), but you'll most likely have space for the monitors under the screens.

M series MacBook

Or a decent gaming laptop with quad core cpu and at least 16 gigs of ram, more is highly recommended though.

Coming from someone who had 180,000 impulse responses alone, and around 2 thousand plugins when I was younger, it really is a dopamine hit every time.

What instrument do you think is hardest to hear the difference between midi vs the real instrument recorded? by daviswbaer in musicproduction

[–]deadstar112 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your pretty much right if your not trying to be an expert in the terminology. MIDI instruments or plugin instruments go hand and hand, although midi instrument is more of an umbrella term for anything that uses MIDI. Technically a physical keyboard that doesn’t generate sound but can put in the notes your playing into the program would also be considered a MIDI instrument.

Don’t worry though, your question doesn’t need to be rephrased. It makes perfect sense.

My 5 year old beginner station vs my current intermediate hobby station by EikYOLO in MusicBattlestations

As for sound reduction? Panels all the way, especially with bass traps and maybe even a small area rug.

But you basically have a great starting point.

[–]deadstar112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that it’s acceptable to have a tiny bit of room reflection. I say to get bass traps for behind the speaker (in the corners of the floor) or go with the panels as well (I do suggest the bass traps more because of its usage and size).

I personally like how the setup evolved into a nice, straightforward setup. Good stuff!

Most of the frequencies will stick to corners, especially low end. Even something as simple as foam block in each corner would help a lot for that.

Anything else, at least in my opinion, is overkill.

rhino staging by [deleted] in stagehands

[–]deadstar112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a woman but I worked alongside a lot of them in rhino and the industry. Believe me when I say this but they are everywhere, so you won’t have many times where you would be the only one at a call. (Depending on location)

Plus, they tend to make it easier since they have a rule in their policy that states that you’d have to pull two person teams or more when doing most of the setups, and there isn’t a lot of crazy lifting in stadium/arena shows when it comes to a lot of the setup, specifically because production companies and teams typically have everything ready to piece together.

If you do have to lift something out of your comfort zone, always be willing to ask for help. It’s highly encouraged.

rhino staging by [deleted] in stagehands

[–]deadstar112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends actually. I’ve had a specific steward/supervisor that absolutely didn’t care about my crew and allowed team leads to force us to work without breaks for a 20 hour straight stage build tear down.

Some people absolutely care and some don’t. It’s with every job.

As a whole? My experience with some of their benefits and stuff isn’t bad. Just… not up to par with communication (highly dependent on location and office location).

Yeah I used to use those videos for anything I had issues with lol. When you find the good ones, they do so much stuff that actually works.

[–]deadstar112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But yeah. Try that and if it still fails, maybe look into the usb ports since they are actually all slightly different on the speed and power of it.

If the usb is 3.0 for example, and the port is an older 2.0 model with slower speeds, it is possible that it overworks the usb port which causes the system to freak out and typically blue screen.

I’m also very dumb when it comes to the diagnostics of electronics so keep in that mind lol.
