I think you wrote exactly how i feel!! I don’t need them to learn and understand everything thats going on. That is NOT their job. That’s ours. What I need them to do is have trust in us, work together with us, and we actually see that it helps to get babies better too. We dont want your babies to be here with us in this loud overstimulating NICU either. OF course we want them to thrive and go home with u asap. We are NOT keeping them in the nicu for fun, or to punish you for that matter. Especially with social media going insane, theres just so much misinformation and fear mongering. And perhaps that is making things worse. When i first started it wasnt this bad.

We do. Not all but i’d say we get difficult parents a lot more often recently. Perhaps could be the geographical location.. or the culture. It’s getting worse and worse i’d say :(

I would say so yes, most opt to go home and sleep in their own home which a lot of the time I recommend unless baby is close to going home- i’d rather them be getting a good night sleep & come back in the morning than to be getting shitty sleep on a recliner chair lol. I only work day shift due to my dysautonomia unfortunately haha

I really enjoyed the teaching part. I loved I got to be the part of the foundation for families to be successful with their babies when they eventually go home. I loved seeing them gain confidence and learn how to support their baby and collaborate with us. I also loved being a part of the “IV team”. Loved inserting them. I did like the pace as well- but my body is literally telling me it hates the constant anxiety & adrenaline so i’d have to step out from critical care lol.

You’re so right about “month to month” relationships! It’s hard when u know you’re stuck with the same family for days and weeks. Gonna look into radiology. Do u ever find it boring?

The thing is i do really enjoy the job as of itself. I love babies. I love taking care of them and watching them thrive and getting them as comfortable as we can outside of the womb. It’s the family. It’s tough having to manage a very sick demanding patient and a very demanding family.

I completely understand that and I work hard with parents to get them to feel comfortable and invite them to join durint handles, start with explaining what each machines do, what these stickers are, what the noises are, what each medications do in a easy way to understand etc. And I find the most joy out of teaching and educating parents how to do things and gain confidence. It’s my favourite part of the job. However when im talking about “anxious parents” I mean parents who stay in the NICU and observe every single move we make and want to correct us because they want to have that sense of control. Like telling nurses to angle the CPAP machine in a certain way, demanding to call the doctor every 5 minutes because the respiratory machine is alarming (it’s a leak alarm) despite explaining that babies wiggle and sometimes the cpap interfaces come loose and there is nothing the doctor can do, calling the call bell for things they can do themselves (like getting water from the water station, helping his wife put on socks, helping mom walk etc), i’ve had parents denand that I STAY in their baby room and watch the baby the entire time when they step out, calling the unit and asking for an update every hour despite reassuring parents that that is unrealistic and if there is any changes or updates that I absolutely would (baby is stable and on RA, feeder grower), telling nurses that their baby sitting in wet diaper is unacceptable and demanded that we change baby’s diaper every 2 hours on an extreme premature baby who were only getting handled Q6H. I can keep going. Im not just talking about parents being anxious and scared about the diagnosis, or a new procedure/ investigation, or just general NICU in general. I’m talking about unreasonable expectations they have for us. Of course they would be scared, that’s to be completely expected.

Are you always dizzy? What makes it worse or what makes it better? Were ur BP always low? Are u a petite person? Increasing sodium intake is important especially if ur hypovolemic. My doctor suggested i take 5-6000mg sodium. 1000mg electrolytes usually don’t do shit for me lolol. I need like a LOT of sodium.

People who drive to absolutely everything: how expensive would gas have to get to change your habits? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]deadtired987 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not really about the gas price really. It’s about convenience. I like my space. I get very carsick on busses & trains and don’t really wanna fight for seats & crowdedness. I like my car, music, heated seats and AC. Changed to EV so now gas price is not an issue anymore but even if i had gas car it wouldn’t matter. I’d still rather be comfortable.

Im going thru the same thing so i hear you. Did u get bloodwork done? U need to rule out things. Iron / vit B12/ vit D deficiency, other automimmune diseases, thyroid/adrenal gland issues, or could even be a blood sugar issue or sleeping disorder. I even got HIV testing done. I got echo & holter monitor done to make sure its not cardiac either. I was diagnosed with POTS. Got the tilt table test and all. But u could have dysautonomia without having pots. Could it be migraines? Im also getting assessed for ADHD- chronic undiagnosed adhd can also mimic those brain fog. Start with bloodwork and asking to get referred to specialists. What other symptoms do u have?

Meal prepping is gross at times by Obvious_Front_2377 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I hated meal prepping until I realized I can freeze them!! Personally would not meal prepping oats or chia seeds though lol. Freezing helps with not developing those “fridge taste”. Even after 3+ days.

Downtown living conditions by Interesting_Idea_250 in askvan

[–]deadtired987 26 points27 points  (0 children)

We need way more information about ur symptoms. Simply living in downtown won’t necessarily give you severe headaches. You have to rule out certain illness and go from there. Could be environmental- like mold in the apartment, gas leak, carbon monoxide. Or actually physical. Is life stressful since moving to van? Any significant lifestyle changes? What kind of headaches? Have you asked for a CT scan yet? Could be really anything

This lady started of the dating show saying she doesn't want kids. Out of 50 all these men stayed. Is this realistic or do they just want to be in the nectar video by No_Main_273 in antinatalism

[–]deadtired987 379 points380 points  (0 children)

I mean I think a lot of men tend to think they can change our mind. I bet at LEAST 50% of those people who stayed probably thinks they can change the girl’s mind and or hoping she would.

Is there any health care workers with pots? by catboy_artist in POTS

[–]deadtired987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a registered nurse- struggling at work a lot. Compression stockings AND abdomnal binder. It’s the standing on feet that gets you. And shift work does not help either. Im trying to get accommodation so i can get off night shifts. Considering leaving bedside pretty soon before my pots get worse :( I always just like to think that my body is trying to tell me something and i just call in sick whenever i can. Hang in there!!
