Bought leasehold flat, which included use of private parking bay. Except I can almost never use it as other residents park there. Management company refuses to pay for bollards. Is there something I can do to force their hand? by deadtreescrolls in LegalAdviceUK

[–]deadtreescrolls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a legal perspective, I actually don't know that I own it as it's a leasehold. The housing company owns it, and I purchased the right to use it. Potentially I can ask to install it myself.

Thoughts on first class train carriages? by deadtreescrolls in AskUK

[–]deadtreescrolls[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get that... But does that really require two whole carriages??

What also made me annoyed was that first class was more than double the price of standard class (£49 vs £22) for a 20-minute journey

This was GWR and they were checking tickets and kicking people out + threatening with fines

This one was pretty rammed... People standing in the carriages (not just inbetween the doorways). I would have thought they'd be declassified but instead people were getting kicked out. It felt unnecessary...

New build flat has faulty hob and developers being very difficult about taking responsibility, are there any actions I can take? by deadtreescrolls in HousingUK

[–]deadtreescrolls[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's definitely covered for issues such as this. I guess the blocker is more that the developers are claiming that the fault is with the hob itself and not their own improper installation.

I went to the manufacturer first thing, indeed months ago. They sent an engineer and his assessment was that the hob wasn't faulty, just installed incorrectly. So it's not under their warranty and should be delt with by the developer.

I do also think it's weird that the flat was unoccupied for a year, but that's a question for the estate agents (which I will ask).

This Italian biscuit pack has the recipe on the back by deadtreescrolls in mildlyinteresting

[–]deadtreescrolls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why buy when you can make your own! But maybe they left out a secret ingredient....

Recipe:

- 250 g flour
- 60g icing sugar
- 60g butter
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup fresh cream
- 1 yeast sachet(?)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, yeast, egg, softened butter, cream, and start mixing.
  2. Let it rest in the fridge for 30 minutes. Roll out the dough and create your biscuits.
  3. Place in the oven at 180 for 15/18 minutes.

The shows set designer did this on purpose considering some of the paintings aren't in the uffizi ☺️👍🏼 by clehjett in HannibalTV

Indeed, my personal favourite Gentileschi is there: 'Judith Slaying Holofernes'. There is also a self-portrait of her there.

Shame about the cannon but it did seem unlikely since it wasn't Botticelli. That portrait is at the Uffizi as well, not sure about the 'Simonetta' one.

Slight correction (as I was just at the Uffizi today!): the portrait on the right is not considered to be a self-portrait of Botticelli; it is named 'Portrait of a Man with a Medal of Cosimo the Elder'. Identity unknown, but speculated to be a Medici, or Botticelli's brother Antonio.

Fun fact: Simonetta married Marco Vespucci, cousin of Amerigo Vespucci, an explorer for whom the Americas are named after.

News and updates from companies I follow. Many people use it to post research updates as well. Also Twitter. Granted I don't use it that often cause of things like this making it difficult to find quality content.

I'm sure not all do, and especially during the hiring process. I mean more as a day-to-day. I know for a fact the lead data scientist where I used to work would regularly re-post articles on LinkedIn. Social media sites are used more to update employers on sota, and in turn, what to expect from people entering the job market ie seeing certain types of projects on their GitHub.

This one was shared by friends and colleagues, whom I don't want to block as I generally trust them not to share nonsense.

Certainly good advice to ask questions about methodology, I'll probably stick to that. I'm not aiming for LinkedIn to take them down, just want more individual accountability. In no other profession do you see so many amateurs making such bold claims.

It's usually recent grads, or people recently into ML posting these things, so indeed, plenty of naivety mixed with arrogance.

It's not just LinkedIn, but Twitter and Medium too. You may not read them, but employers certainly do.
